Cartoon Network am crai

they lost Transformers, any chance at future TMNT and Marvel stuff, they'll lose DreamWorks, and now Star Wars

the scumbags deserve it for their treatment of young justice and green lantern. they can slowly fade into obscurity for all I care now.

After the disaster that was John Carter (Of Mars), I'm not too hopeful of this being anything other than terrible.

Disney, fucking Disney of all companies, owns now:

MARVEL and STAR WARS

Marvel and Star Wars... think about it for a moment. Let it sink.

Spidey x Tatooine

Didn't he recently say he wanted to do smaller more personal films? This means he could do that and his baby is left in great hands.

Yes, but this is Lucas. He LOATHES larger companies and the original Star Wars trilogy was a product of a producer fighting tooth and nail against studios like Disney. To see him sell it to Disney is just so odd. He could have just as easily passed it on to another director without being directly involved, without having to sell it.

Wow.

The latest rumor was that Carsland will get cloned for Disneys Hollywood Studios. I much rather have it be Lucas Land.

Walt Disney Co. is buying Lucasfilm in a $4 billion deal that brings the best-selling "Star Wars" franchise under the Disney umbrella, CNBC reported Tuesday.

Disney has long had a close relationship with closely held Lucasfilm and founder George Lucas, including featured attractions at Disney theme parks such as Star Tours at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Florida.

"It's now time for me to pass 'Star Wars' on to a new generation of filmmakers," said Lucas, 68, in a statement.

Wasn't this the same guy that had an attitude with the fans that wanted the original movies or something along those lines? Kind of odd to be signing the rights over to someone else completely.

So some parties like Cartoon Network and whatnot are fucked. Is Fox completely screwed as well? IIRC they were just the distributor and I doubt future deals were signed, but I don't know how that might impact past re-releases?

And man, if this gets us an unaltered bluray release of the OT I'm all for it.

If you read the recent interviews with Lucas, he just seemed so sick of the industry in general, and dealing with fans, and the entire thing. I'm really not that surprised that he was willing at this point in his life to just sell it all. I'm just surprised that someone willingly ponied up the money to buy it all at one go.

Wow.

Now we might finally find out if Lucas was telling the truth when he said he destroyed all the original film of the original trilogy, leaving us stuck with the new edition monstrosities. If Lucas left a hidden stash somewhere, Disney could make a lot of money just selling the actual originals.

There was a guy who had a pretty amazing-looking print of Star Wars and showed it a few years ago. Lucas has been pretty aggressive about confiscating prints, but it might still be out there. I think he was so obsessive that he even kept all the original elements to his effects shots, though. Worst-case would be recompositing the original effects shots.

Personally I am quite excited by this, the fact that Disney can now expand their little Star Wars area in Disney World could be awesome, wasn't their rumbling the other week about them wanting something to rival Harry Potter, maybe this could be it?

And for too long has Lucas controlled the license by himself with no one to answer to, him being moved to consultant hopefully means one person will no long handle the whole film license which in turn will ideally mean we don't end up with an Episode 1-3 scenario again.

i'm still speechless. I thought he was going to his grave with this stuff.

Yeah, would have thought that as well. Two situations;

A - He wants someone else to continue, might as well be Disney.

B - He doesn't give a damn anymore.

I honestly thought George was more selfish than this. He really did us all a favor.

I'm kinda freaking out over this, how is this not an April Fools Day joke? I guess this means we'll be getting the planned Star Wars land at Disneyland Paris, and hell even other parks, soon enough.

With Disney now owning both Marvel AND Lucasfilm, doesn't this make them the premier movie studio in Hollywood now?

Disney got it CHEAP. The first film alone will bring in a billion dollars easily. I'm perplexed at how Lucasfilm was valued so low.
