Xbox One: Details on Connectivity, Licensing (24 hour check-in) and Privacy Features

Holy shit so if you're at a friends house you can only play the game for a fucking hour?

What the fuck? Fuck you MS. That's just ridiculous. Holy shit.

Yes if his friend doesn't have internet connection

With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library. Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies.

The family stuff is very clear. Again:

Give your family access to your entire games library anytime, anywhere: Xbox One will enable new forms of access for families. Up to ten members of your family can log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One. Just like today, a family member can play your copy of Forza Motorsport at a friend’s house. Only now, they will see not just Forza, but all of your shared games. You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time.
* Up to 10 "members of your family".
* Play from any Xbox One.
* Any ONE of your family members can be playing from your shared library AT A GIVEN TIME.

Because it isnt as bad as gaf was making it out to be. Sony is probably going to take a similar route regarding DRM and the Xbone can still share games. It could have been much much worse.
This IS as bad as people have been saying it would be.

Highlights:

-10 family members can play any of my "shared" games on any console. :O. That's fuckin nuts (depending on what shared means)
-Day 1 digital copies. Usually go for retail but this is still cool as an option
-Anyone can play my games on my console. Expected. Sad that this had to be cleared up though
-I can store games on the cloud and play them wherever I sign into my account. That's pretty awesome.
-I don't need to swap discs to play different games. Pretty sick. I usually buy disc copies of games so now I can buy them and keep them on my shelf.

Lowlights:
-Game reselling is on a case by case basis it seems
-Giving games to friends thing is so bizarre.

Indifferent:
-Must be signed in at least once every 24 hours to play games. If my internet goes down, then I'm not playing my Xbox 360. This is really not a big deal for me at all. In fact, if requiring internet makes my gaming experience better in most games then I'm all for it.

This is just how it will affect me. I don't know how it will affect other people around the world.
This is exactly how I feel. I don't think it's wonderful but it won't affect me personally too much. For me it's literally all about the games in deciding which console to get this year.

Yep, fucking over consumers will ROCK. Don't these people realise that consumers don't like to be abused? The people saying 'fuck this' will heavily outweigh the few more dollars screwing consumers will bring in..

they're marching towards the inevitable always online digital future and happily calling the bluff of consumers. Anyone upset about this enough to not buy one will miss out on all the industry's best games.

I'm not going to buy one, but plenty of people will.

So can publishers force this kind of stuff on Sonys console? I mean that they say that they won't release games if it doesn't offer the same or similar options

I think they already did, since EA is dumping all online passes.

Or Sony isn't getting EA games.

Your pick.

Pretty much my position. 24 hour verification and used games only being a thing at "participating retailers" is bad.

this was basically the worst case scenario gaf pieced together after the One launch

"oh you're just being forum dwellers and trolls and blahblahblah"... yeah, fuck anyone who gets on their knees for this shit. You deserve each other.

Publishers get to choose whether a game can be resold.....wow. Just wow. I mean I was never interested in a drm console anyway, but this is just a slap in the face. A slap in the face with a great big dick.

Go fuck yourselves Microsoft. I hope this consoles flops badly.

Well they'd be saying goodbye to a money pool if the PS4 sells significantly more than the X1.

Of course Sony would want to appease devs developing on their system to, so there has to be a middle ground somewhere.

cheap sales

How is this any different to what PS4 and Xbox One are offering?

why would you answer a question you already answered.

If publishers decide to start selling their games for $40 new next gen and then $20 within a month (not just bombas) you'd hear a lot less complaining. That coupled with the fact that ever since PC keys were invented the PC has not had a used games market whereas it's had a long tradition on consoles.

I don't know how I feel about this.

I guess I'm used to the practices from being a PC gamer for so long, but the console gamer part of me is used to loaning and trading in games. Most of my PC games also don't make me check in every 24 hours.

I'll have to give it some thought, but the entire thing reeks so highly of willful anti-consumer practices, I may have to vote with my wallet out of principal alone.

Same goes for PS4 if Sony does the same, and I don't honestly see how they won't at this point.

I'm actually ok with this.

Now pubs will finally see if used games truly are affecting their sales... and eat crow when they find out otherwise.

Well, there's a good side to this. You don't need always-online connection to use some of the TV features. The DRM must have been really baked in. Well, I have relief now. Now its time to move on to the games.

Highlights (lowlights?):

No renting, no loaning. No private sales (unless selling to someone who has been on your friends list for 30 days)

Console Checks in Every 24 hours

Trade-ins are up to the publisher and only at participating retailers

You can give a game to a friend only if they have been on your friends list for 30 days, and then it is stuck with them.

Up to 10 family members can play your games from any console at any time

Well how about no Microsoft.

Xbox, go home!

Releasing the digital copy on the same day as the disc-one is awesome, the only thing im hoping for is that the pricing of the digital copy will be in line with the disc. As of today, the digital prices are sky-high and does not match the disc pricing. The same game on disc is 15€ but the digital one is 60€, and they don't seem to lower it even though it's 2 years old...

Prepare to be disappointed.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
This is possibly the most reprehensible product in gaming history, and I won't claim to not view with some contempt anyone who buys one. For the sake of consumers, I hope to god that the #PS4NoDRM campaign actually accomplished something.

I hope so, otherwise...next gen is seriously fucked, or in Nintendo's hands.

So, still quite fucked, given the recent moves with Wii U XD

Imagine buying a stove but it required an internet connection for software updates and to check if it's still registered to you. Then it would only allow you to cook certain kinds of food. If you want to use the rear burners, you have to pay a monthly fee. It also monitors who is cooking and if it's not someone in your family, they can't cook.

Would you buy it? No? Then why the hell would you buy the Xbox One?

People just want to play games. Just like you would just want to cook your fucking food. No one should want to pay good money for a device that restricts what they can do with it.

WHY ARE PEOPLE SAYING THIS?
They already fucking confirmed there's no online requirement for the system, jesus wept.

I'd like to thank everyone who cheered for this system with the faulty thinking that it would "punish" the practices of Gamestop. Congratulations, you have cheered the introduction of a racket, with Microsoft, AAA publishers and Gamestop all profiteering from the loss of basic private selling between individuals.

There aren't enough lols in the world for selling a system as "Simple, Instant, Complete" while, at the same time, requiring an FAQ explaining how any basic assumptions you had about what you can do with a game disc you want to pass around or sell were so fucking wrong.

What a stupid fucking console.

Yeah, the "family member" stuff needs clarification, because it's one of the few things that sounds like a step up from the status quo, but that's only because it's going against the spirit of everything else. I can't imagine game sharing will be as free and open as it's being implied.

Well no used games fees, which is a plus :)

The rest is bad IMO - especially for you guys touting GameStop as the bringer of all evils, as they will probably have even more power now private sales are stopped.

Also this...

"Loaning or renting games won’t be available at launch, but we are exploring the possibilities with our partners."

:(

to even think about PAYING someone to sell the product we sold is outrageous.

but you know that the fees the publisher's charge to the retailers will demand MORE money from us; because the retailer will obviously charge more.

seriously, is my logic sound?

But the PC platform still offers disc-based games. Its just that Steam is more orientated around DD. I still have trouble seeing the difference, because both consoles are transitioning to DD, what with the whole "buy it online and play instantly".

Well you got to understand that selling, trading and renting games has been part of the console experience since Atari days. All of a sudden restricting that will have people calling foul.

The only reason I don't care much is because I'm going full digital next gen.

Stop for just a second and ask yourself this very logical question.

"Why did the terms have to change at all"?

If the console is going to require that all games be installed for technical reasons, then it also follows that there must also be a mechanism to prevent using one disk to install across unlimited consoles. Is this solution worse than the problem it intended to solve? Hard to say. How much of a limiting factor are Blu-ray disk-read speeds? Substantial, if MGS4 is any indication

1) Add 10 friends to a shared account
2) Each friend pays $6 for a new game
3) Share as needed
????
4) Profit?

I'm not buying this console though. Maybe in a few years.

There is no way this is really how the system works. This would be a million times more damaging than just letting people freely rent or sell/trade used. Not only will entire forums be set up to enable sharing accounts, someone will go so far as to set up an actual business that creates and controlls a vetted master account and sells timeshares to users.

If these idiots will really let you game share with 10 people then they are...well...idiots.

I can see groups of 10 forming now. You can then get all new release games for $6 each.

StudioTan

Hold on, friend! I'd love to share with you some swell news about the Windows 8 Metro UI! Wait, where are you going?
i don't buy used games or sell my games and prefer digital content over discs. (same date is awesome, never buying a game on a disc again)

my internet connection very rarely goes out for over 24 hrs and it only happens with a power outage, and could always use my phone if i need the internet for the xbox. Also never travel with my home consoles.

the family sharing feature sounds awesome if it works outside of your local connection. If me and my brother can share our games easily even when we are in different parts of the US then it will be awesome.

basically, none of the online stuff or used stuff affects me and the bonuses for having this stuff tied to your account benefits me.

Yeah, this exactly for me. Compared to how I used both my PS3 and Xbox 360 for the last 7 years nothing will be worse for me and the sharing feature will be great. Hopefully the share feature works at different locations.

I feel pretty bad for the thousands out there that have no idea this is going on, people that don't follow news or anything. You know, people without Internet.
