[DF] Starfield Reveal Analysis: Next-Gen Scale, But What About Performance?

I don’t know, 30fps is getting uncommon. There were some people early in the gen prefering Ratchet, Demon’s Souls, Miles Morales at 30fps, I think DF even preferred 30fps in Forza Horizon 5, and I talked with people preferring the 30fps mode in Horizon Forbidden West as well.
But games with first person shooting? Can you list a single one? That’s definitely a gameplay style that benefit from a higher fps.
So, I guess Bethesda need to nail the third person mode.
I agree on the fps part. But starfield will not be a 100% shooter game like for example doom. It will (most likely) have slower parts like shopping in town, exploring the environments and so on. Of course, 60 fps would be much nicer, but again, you got to make compromises on console. 30fps was OK-ish for Fallout and I guess it will be alright for Starfield. People that want premium (high fps, ultra graphics) need to pay premium (pc) - as I said. 60fps games also did exist on last gen. Remember MGS5? That was 60fps on PS4. But it was not only 60fps because 60fps is better, it was 60fps because it was still being released within a transition-window from PS3 to PS4. Much like the examples you mentioned. Once devs understand how to make next gen games, the majority of titles will be 30fps. That's my bet. Looks at this very forum. People cream themselves over a game that has nice tits, that's just how the majority of gamers think.

Yup I can agree to most of that. We’ve already seen some next gen only games going for 30fps; The Medium, MS Flight Sim, I assume we’ll see plenty of 30fps UE5 games too based on the Matrix demo. So it shouldn’t come as a shock if we’ll see more of that going forward.
In the case of Starfield I’m not too bothered since I’ll play on PC anyway for mods and mouse and possibly VR etc. But for console only gamers it could be a problem depending on how fast the action is. I’ve never tried 40fps, I hear lots of good things about that, it could possibly be a solution I guess.

Upside if Starfield target 30fps on console, maybe PC gaming will get a healthy upswing.

Those long posts don't cover that red neck boy
Maybe it's an art style thing, or just the limitations of the engine they are using but if the background and environments truly look like they showed, the character designs standing in them look completely out if place.

Yes, the small details as you describe add to it, but honestly the faces and animations look worse than some we've seen on decades old hardware. And that's on high end next gen settings supposedly.

Which is currently why some people are calling the visuals shit

(Even though they'll probably play it anyhow)
But that has little to do with the visuals for the most part. The model itself looks perfectly serviceable when static. It is when animations kick in that you get the impression ''I've seen this before on far less powerful hardware''.

And i am inclined to agree with that. The model isn't the problem: Its animation is.

Knowing this is Bethsoft's pet peeve, one can only hope that gets improved. If not, that will be the one thing really sticking out at release.

Im gone to be realistic i expect 4k 30fps on Series X & 1440p 60fps
But maybe they surprise me & do achieve 4k 60fps on console
4K60? Nah that’ll never happen, unless there is a XSX Pro coming.

Realistically, I expect dynamic res at 30-ish fps on XSX and no performance mode.

No point setting yourself up for disappointment. I expected 10 planets max and no mining or base building or flying or ship building, wasn’t even expecting any aliens based on the NASA talk and being grounded in reality.
The showcase blew me away! 😊

It also blew me away with it huge scale i was also expecting like 1 solar system with like 8-10 planets when he said 100 system with over 1000 planets my jaw hit the floor
But anyways with FSR 2.0 and with the delay i hope they use it also directstorage i want all the goodies use the delay time to good use

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

I'm expecting a now-standard Visual and Performance toggle. Visual = 4K/30 with some higher effects. Performance Dynamic 1440p/60.

You have confidence that Bethesda will release a polished game? Oh sweet innocence…

Not expecting no bugs, that would just betray the essence of a Bethesda game, but expecting performance to be much better over the next year.

Considering the best game to come out in a long time and set for the game of the year in Elden Ring is also a stink average game in the visuals department, I don't think this matters much.
Bethesda arnt in buisness to make beautiful games that are short campaigns, they are about building whole worlds. So if their games doesn't boast ground breaking graphics I'm hardly surprised nor "concerned".
If however a studio like Crytek put out a game that looked like Starfield and was a small single player game then I would be "concerned".

I'm more surprised that someone who bitch about any game graphic is happy with what they showed tbh :lollipop_squinting:
It's a massive leap over Fallout 4. A generational leap. Other games have not shown me that leap. I never expected Starfield to have Matrix quality graphics especially after the cinematic trailer last year, but what they have shown so far is sufficiently next gen. the vista shots especially give me boner. no other games looks that good.

the city looks meh. cyberpunk city looks better. but again, this is a bethesda game and this is what their city looks like last gen.

Almost two years into "next gen" where the selling point of these consoles were their power and capability of pushing 4k/60 or 1080p/120 and people are out here loading up their carts with excuses as to why a 4K/30 target is "okay" on a next-gen only game in 2023.

Embarrassing.

Even more embarrassing that you’re not clued in on power levels of next gen consoles after two years of game releases.
Barely anything demanding is pushing 4K 60fps at next gen visuals. Certainly not with open world.

Show me any marketing material where you were promised that every AAA game would be 4K 60fps.

After I saw John take, the game actually holds pretty well on presentation. Also I agree with John about the weapons design, Fallout weapons are ugly as fuck but in SF looks like cool actually. Dunno about visual expressions and face models though, but overall looks like an interesting game. And thats from someone who had bad experiences with Bethesda games.

I agree with you, in the context of Bethesda… however, other games have not shown as much of a leap in comparison (yet), is because their bar wasn’t as low as Fallout 4. Let’s be honest here.

Lmao of course the jump is bigger, unmodded fallout 4 was nothing special graphically.

I think this may be the first Beth game where we see a pretty noticeable difference. They have all of XGS to lean on and Microsoft money to back it. No doubt Xbox sees the potential in this title becoming a flagship IP.

Microsoft looking to release at least 2 true next gen games within the next 12 months in this and forza...genuinely can't wait.

Getting really excited for these games. I think they will deliver.
