After a year of constant waiting, Disney Channel/Disney XD finally brings us the long-awaited second season of Gravity Falls!

"What exactly is Gravity Falls and why should I give a f**k?"

Gravity Falls, which premiered on Disney Channel on June 15, 2012, is the brainchild of creator Alex Hirsch (known for his work on The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack and Fish Hooks).

Based loosely upon Hirsch's own childhood experiences/fantasies and family life with his twin sister, the series tells the story of twins Dipper and Mabel, whom are whisked away from their comfy home in Piedmont, California to spend their summer vacation with their great-uncle out in the wilderness of Gravity Falls, Oregon.

Forced to work at their "Grunkle" Stan's tourist trap, the Mystery Shack, things appear to be rather dull and ho-hum until Dipper discovers a worn-out journal in the woods. As he deciphers the strange tome, the twins begin to see that the quiet town is not quite what it appears to be on the surface. Countless wonders and terrifying secrets lie in wait for those daring enough to seek them out. As the days pass, Dipper and Mabel realize that as the journal warns...

"Remember - in Gravity Falls, there is no one you can trust..."

So, why should I watch this again?

Gravity Falls is probably one of Disney's most unique and refreshing shows in years. Think of a mix between the mystery and sci-fi themes of the X-Files, the hidden innuendo and adult humor of '90s Nickelodeon, the warming heart of early Simpsons, with an overall Pixar-like quality to it. Most people don't even realize it's a Disney-related show upon initial viewing!

Despite being on the air for only for a few years, GF is already one of the highest-rated and well-reviewed animated series on cable. It also was recently added to several "Greatest Animated Shows of All Time" lists including IGN.com and TV Guide.

Wasn't this the same opening you used for the GF Shorts |OT|?

Yeah, but I really liked the way it was, so I carried it over and made edits here and there. So sue me...
not really, please...

Dipper Pines (voiced by Jason Ritter) is the youngest of the Pines twins (albeit by five minutes difference). Despite his age, Dipper has the intellect and determination of a FBI agent. However, his interest in discovering the mysteries that adults usually ignore earns him the ridicule of his family and friends. The straight man of the group, Dipper's goals include unlocking the secrets behind Gravity Falls, proving his critics and skeptics dead wrong, and winning the heart of his dream girl.

All in a day's work for a little hero, right?

Mabel Pines (voiced by Kristen Schaal) is the slightly older twin sister of Dipper. Whereas Dipper is more serious and doubting, Mabel faces the world with a cherry, braced-filled smile and a huge amount of optimism, mixed with a her own sense of silliness. Armed with an endless supply of attention-grabbing sweaters, Mabel sets off to make new friends, experience a special summer romance, and occasionally help Dipper on whatever spooky quest he's partaking at the moment.

Stanford "Grunkle Stan" Pines (voiced by Alex Hirsch) was once a failed door-to-door salesman, only to find limited success by setting up the Mystery Shack tourist trap in the Gravity Falls Woods. The public knows him as "Mr. Mystery," a suave and charismatic guide to the oddities of our world. Those closest to him see him as a money-grabbing bum who watches daytime TV in his underwear. Despite his greedy nature, Stan has been known to reveal his soft side from time to time, especially when concerning the twins.

fKe9jSg.jpg

Soos (voiced by Alex Hirsch) is the Mystery Shack's handyman and the self-proclaimed protege of Stan. A lovable man-child, he is often dragged into the Pines twins' adventures due to being the only adult that notices all of the crazy things happening behind the scenes in Gravity Falls. However, his clumsy nature often leads the gang into more perilous situations than before his involvement...

Wendy Corduroy (voiced by Linda Cardellini) is an unusually tall high school girl that (barely) works the counter of the Mystery Shack Gift Shop. She is also Dipper's (not-so) secret crush. Mellow, confident, and tomboyish, Wendy is the leader of her band of friends that go around "rule-breaking" and playing pranks throughout their small town. While it is unknown if she reciprocates (or even acknowledges) Dipper's true feelings, it is apparent that the two share somewhat of a bond (following the incident at the haunted Dusk2Dawn convenience store), and for this, Wendy often tries to include the twelve-year-old in her misadventures.

"Li'l" Gideon Gleeful (voiced by Thurop Van Orman) is a self-promoting child psychic who Stan reluctantly considers to be his rival. He once possessed and used the second journal to seek out whatever secrets were hidden in the Mystery Shack, but after being defeated by Dipper and Mabel, he was promptly arrested for his crimes.

V6htWLP.png

Sheriff Blubs (voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson) and Deputy Edwin Durland (voiced by Keith Ferguson) might look like idiotic police officers with a serious bromance, but in truth, they are part of a government conspiracy to prevent the secrets of Gravity Falls from becoming public.

dYQ9A4d.png

Sir Lord Quentin Trembley III Esquire (voiced by Alex Hirsch) is the eighth and a half President of the United States. When we was kicked out of office for being too silly, he founded Gravity Falls and entombed himself in peanut brittle to preserve his age. Upon being freed by Dipper and Mabel, he set off for new travels as he rode his horse backwards into the distance...

1nvfFwd.png

Blendin Blandin (voiced by Justin Roiland) is a time traveler from the year 207̃012. His primary focus was to clean up a series of time anomalies that Mabel and Dipper started after "borrowing" his time machine. He can be seen in the background of several episodes including the Season one finale...

Yoi8Xo2.png

Candy Chiu (voiced by Niki Yang) and Grenda (voiced by Carl Faruolo) are befriended by Mabel after being treated as outcasts by Pacifica Northwest. Despite their faults, Mabel sees the two as kindred spirits, as they share several interests like teen comedies, romance novels, and boy bands.

uPZsv0v.png

Fiddleford H. McGucket (voiced by Alex Hirsch) claims to be the town's "local kook," but behind his crazed mind lies a technical genius, capable of creating fully-functioning robots and deadly weapons. He is prone to bouts of loneliness and jealously.

tyNCfc9.png

Manly Dan (voiced by John DiMaggio) and the Corduroy Boys are the father and younger brothers of Wendy. Dan appears to be emotionally unstable and quick to anger and rage. Surprisingly, he does seem to be a good father figure by spending lots of time with his sons and daughter through various family bonding activities like camping and fishing.

Fe50VTp.png

Lazy Susan (voiced by Jennifer Coolidge) is the local waitress who works at the nearest dive, Greasy's Diner. Once Grunkle Stan's crush, he backed away as soon as he found out about her obsessive and bizarre nature involving her cats.

k4nPM7q.png

Pacifica Northwest (voiced by Jackie Buscarino) is the richest and most popular girl in Gravity Falls. She is an unfriendly, sarcastic, and spoiled girl and considers Mabel her rival for she is the only person to stand up to her. It was once believed that her great-great-grandfather founded Gravity Falls, but Dipper and Mabel disproved it upon discovering the slumbering President Trembly hidden away.

Nro3qaA.png

Robbie V. (voiced by T.J. Miller) is Dipper's rival for Wendy's affections. The goth becomes Wendy's boyfriend at the Mystery Fair, much to Dipper's dismay. Despite agreeing on a "cold war pact," Dipper discovers that Robbie is hypnotizing Wendy through mind-controlling messages hidden in his music. Upon being exposed, she breaks up with him (although Wendy claims to be upset that the song wasn't truly hers, ignoring the fact that she was being brainwashed...)

VIyF3lu.png

Lee (voiced by Michael Rianda),Nate (voiced by Scott Menville), Tambry (voiced by Jessica DiCicco), and Thompson (voiced by Michael Rianda) are Wendy's friends. Being stereotypical, sarcastic, care-free teenagers, the group goes around town, stirring up (harmless) fun wherever they can. The boys work at the local movie theater, where they abuse their power as much as Wendy does at her job.

dZiFwNx.png

Waddles (voiced by Dee Bradley Baker) is Mabel's pet pig who she won at the Mystery Fair. He is her constant companion, often being the source of her zany escapades.

oHrB5KB.jpg

Bill Cipher (voiced by Alex Hirsch) is a powerful dream demon released by Lil' Gideon in an attempt to steal the Mystery Shack from Grunkle Stan. He has a twisted sense of humor but loses his temper quite easily due to impatience. He warns the GF gang of a "darkness coming" that will change their lives forever.

Earlier in the spring, there had been rumblings of rumored Gravity Falls toys hitting the market in Summer 2014. A few days later, these appeared online.

The latest news says that figures that look somewhat different from the images above will release late-August/early-September...

jQCXG6Q.png

Slowly, but surely, Disney has been releasing the series on DVD (No blu ray versions, despite the protests of both Alex Hirsch and the GF fanbase) Volume 1 contains the first 6 episodes as well as a mini-replica of Dipper's journal. The second set, scheduled for release on August 26th, 2014, hasn't had too many details pop up yet, but stay tune to this thread for future info!

For those with smaller GF fans in their family/friends, Disney has also decided to release a series of children's books based on the episodes of the first season. There are two different varieties:

w9FPp31.jpg

Some will be colored picture-books with stickers and alternate art from the series

ffAbv0W.png

and others will be smaller black and white novellas.

The first set will be available July 22, 2014. The storybook will be about the Summerween and Inconveniencing episodes while the novel follows Double Dipper and The Hand That Rocks the Mabel...

A second set will be released in October, based upon Time Traveler's Pig, Land Before Swine, and the GF Shorts:

There are slightly cheaper Amazon Kindle versions available as well...

iTunes will actually be offering half-assed audiobooks versions for each...

Finally, this small gem has been floating around the 'net:

As of this moment, the only available GF-related games are Flash-based ones found at the link below:

http://disneyxd.disney.com/gravity-falls/games

However, that doesn't mean there aren't decent ones to be found...

EFNhb50.jpg

Rumble's Revenge can be considered to be a poor man's Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, where Dipper and Mabel are trapped in a 16-bit version of Gravity Falls and has to fight their way out with unique abilities and special moves!

FxEtib0.jpg

Pinesquest takes place directly after Rumble's Revenge in which players lead Dipper and Mabel through a Zelda-esque 8-bit overhead adventure to find their way back to the real world.

Throughout the year, the GF staff was bombarded with requests that the world of Gravity Falls would make it into the Disney Infinity series. In late winter, Alex Hirsch provided this tweet:

tumblr_myalayMN871sbotlno1_1280.jpg

Even though we haven't gotten official confirmation that the Gravity Falls characters will make it into Disney Infinity 2.0, one could argue that the company has been less than shy about teasing its fans:

Mysteryofgravityfalls said:
Remember six months ago when Alex Hirsch met with John Vignocchi about something? Then remember two days ago when Disney announced Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes? What you may not have seen is the announcement event for the game where they showed off various aspects of the gameplay, items, and features. When they show off the interior, we can see some very familiar items decorating the room.

tumblr_n4xmllBJ6M1sbotlno4_1280.png

Last, but not least, Hirsch has thrown this message up on his twitter feed:

iJtZBGVEXchUb.png

No other word about a GF console game has appeared just yet...

YfZKKBz.png

As the first batch of GF-GAFfers welcomed me with open arms, I whole-hardheartedly do the same for anyone interested in the show via this thread. However, I have a few requests to ask to avoid spoiling the show for anyone.

If a situation was to happen again where episodes leak/get aired early on On-Demand, or if anymore spoiler images happen to appear on the interwebs, I ask that people use their best judgments and make appropriate use of both spoiler tags and unlinked images when necessary. Furthermore, I also ask that when discussing new episodes, that spoilers tags be used when mentioning details for at least the first week after the show airs on Disney Channel/XD.

Finally, please don't post leaked episodes (or links leading to) on the board. The last thing I need is a mod wanting to put a boot in my ass or lock the thread because of it.

tYvKW5Q.gif

Remember, someone's always watching...

ejK2G8h.png

xwfFnmm.png

One of GF's most famed details is the amount of hidden content that is hidden within each episode. Whenever it is seeing the number "618" everywhere, (6/18 is the birthday of Alex Hirsch and his twin, Ariel) to swearing that marks resembling the wicked Bill Cipher are always watching, both young and older fans love taking notes of such notices and more importantly, how it effects future episodes.

http://themysteryofgravityfalls.com/

The link above helps make the mystery-solving a bit easier by providing cyphers for the many riddles that the show offers.

For example, the jumble at the end of the credits:

egwftI0.png

becomes...

p1MDh5Z.png

Nearly everything has a form of clue: the opening theme, the online games, etc. The show even drops hints on when to change cyphers, so be on the lookout for anything suspicious...

tUgG5Kn.png

So, wait? Gravity Falls is now airing on Disney XD? What gives?

Yeah, so for some reason, (probably to bail out that network) Disney is taking its #1 hit show and premiering its new content first on Disney XD (and Disney XD On-Demand)

If I don't get Disney XD, does that mean I'm royally screwed?

Not at all. Alex Hirsch has already confirmed that the new episodes will trickle down to regular Disney Channel after a short period of time. If you're the kind of person who doesn't want to wait, try the Gravity Falls page on the iTunes store:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/tv-season/gravity-falls-vol.-1/id530179161

or the Amazon Video store if it's more to your tastes:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0097WHW8A/?tag=neogaf0e-20

I'm new to the series, and I wanna catch up in a hurry. What's the best (legal) way?

Try the Amazon and iTunes links above. Also, in honor of the upcoming new season, Disney will be having a marathon of every GF Season 1 episode (including all of the shorts!) on July 26th!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzYsDyrQs8I&list=UU38Qv_0pYEdw8WL2MClJKtA

What the hell, OP? You and the rest of GF-GAF are way too biased towards Dipper. He's an annoying, little kid that sticks his nose where it doesn't belong, especially when concerning the redhead and the goth. Besides, it isn't like he actually has a snowball's chance in Hell of -

So, in conclusion, welcome new and old to the official thread for Gravity Falls Season 2!!! Here's looking forward to exploring and enjoying the new mysteries together here, the new home for GF-GAF!

Yay, Season 2!

I still haven't watched some of the shorts so I should get on that asap.

Catch it on the marathon on the 26th if it helps...

Gideon shall rise again

Yeah, kinda disappointed
they're already going back to his involvement, at least based on the teaser...
. I honestly thought they were going to start with the
Robbie's revenge
angle they hinted at.

Can't wait to see more, loved the first season! Hopefully the complete show will eventually get released on DVD/BD so we can enjoy the show (and all the shorts/extras) whenever we want. Will have to mark episodes on my calendar so I can grab a TV in the house, this is the only show that makes me regret getting rid of my DVR.

Wooo! Finally, Season 2, after the cliff hanger that ended season 1 it's felt like forever.

Also I'm gonna have a hard time accepting that the voice of this guy:

Deputy_Durland.png

is the same guy who did the voice of this guy:

http://www.stitchkingdom.com/disney-gravity-falls-comic-con-72069/

Nice write up for the Gravity Falls SDCC Panel. Being unquoted in case of spoilers. The biggest news was actually video game related:

No GF figures for Disney Infinity 2.0 Marvel Edition (fuck the Knicks, indeed!). Only locations and power discs...

But console game with Dipper and Mabel co-op confirmed!

I didn't get Hirsch's comment about
Robbie
. I even double checked the caps in the wiki...

Also, new trailer for the season premiere:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyg9cNx2kMQ

as well as new interview with Jason Ritter (Dipper) about the show:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzNVnH2BjQs

Just wow at that last comment before the interview ends...

woot. the disney xd app lets me watch the episode when it goes live i think. sucks that it won't have watch before it airs (lab rats only for now)

Great OT really looking forward to the new season
Hell of an OP. Can hardly believe it's only a week away... kind of felt like this day would never come.
Fantastic OP. Its been a long wait. Can't wait!
Fantastic OT! Can't wait for the new season to start.

Great Job, OP!
Great OP. Very excited, August 1st cannot come soon enough!

Taking-a-bow.jpg

should have done this first day, but been busy with work. Thanks for all compliments! I'm glad I made it worthwhile!

Is this show on Netflix?

unfortunately, not yet. There is hope, because a lot of other Disney stuff have been making the rounds (like Phineas and Ferb). Sounds like something you can bug Hirsch on his twitter about. (if you do, point him this way...)

QcDeK3W.gif

I hope we get more adventures with Wendy this time.

I like you. Dancing Wendy is best Wendy...

I can't tell if they're being serious.

I'm guessing no, at least based on Jason's reaction. The other guy, I'm not so sure...

Finally, some good SDCC news!

full trailer for season premiere on 8/1/14:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oi-K4zgfnyw&list=UU38Qv_0pYEdw8WL2MClJKtA

(spoilers, bewarb)

and a decent view of the season 2 preview at SDCC. If a better version can be found, I will post here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvJvgZo_Rpc

some things I noticed:

-
Someone is with the twins in the go-cart (the interwebs say its that Pacifica girl...
-
I think that's Lazy Susan with the hooded people...
-
Another blonde girl with the twins with the killer animatronics.
-
An injured Wendy using her flannel to tend to her own wounds (like a boss...)

Did I miss anything (that's not obvious?)

and lastly, what the action figures will actually look like!

XIYs5vY.png

way better...(due out September)

I watched a few episodes of the first season when it was airing and I had access to cable. Was a cool show, but I was just taken aback seeing it on Amazon Instant for $60 in HD. Any chance this gets a Bluray release, or that price drops? Maybe when Season 2 starts?

The beginning of that preview had a very "strongbadia" feel to it. In general the action figures look TONS better but I actually prefer the first Mabel.

Gonna jump on those figures as soon as they are up for preorder. They definitely look more polished now. Srill no Bluray is extremely disappointing. And Disney once again fumbles through Disney Infinity. Their omission is a big blunder. There won't be a 3.0

I just started watching this show today and was pleasantly surprised by it! Seems pretty cool, I'm gonna keep watching.

My son and I love this show. His fourth birthday was Gravity Falls themed with Jack-o-melons and question mark pretzels. We also made Dipper hats as favors. Really fun party.

Anyway, my son and I a beyond hyped for the new season. Problem is we will be in between moves and won't have the cable set up in time. A little bumed, but I'm sure we'll be able to catch a repeat for find it streaming.
