Guardians Of The Galaxy finding it's audience thanks to Gamepass

How much vram does the game try to use at your settings? My guess is too much. I had a 970.. it's the card famous for having 3.5 GB of usable vram... and I've noticed in the games I play that the usage in modern titles can be quite high.
its not about vram or anything, game runs bad on maxwell architecture

with 471.11 (specifically) game runs a bit better

it has nothing to do with these GPUs being old, a 970 when properly supported, can go head to head with a series s (no joke). a 970 still performs close to a 1060 in most of games (new or old), and 1060 is just a bit behind 1650super, which is exactly where series s sits at

970 being old has nothing to do with its performance in this game;

its just a matter of developer support;

then again, its extra burden for devs to accomodate for endless architectures that nvidia is pushing out every 2 years. not every dev has the resources/time to cover all bases. as you can see, Gotg developers clearly have phased out maxwell in their minds, cemented by the fact that they suggest a 1060 as a minimum whereas Forza horizon lists a Kepler GPU as a minimum and surprisingly, my friend's 750ti can run it at 1080p/30 FPS

now, its widely known that forza 5 is a good optimized title, but GOTG is not that bad either. Pascal GPUs still run it good, and Turing/Ampere is mostly having a good time

i cannot blame developers, i would say blame is on nvidia. they keep reiterating architectures since they have economical power to do so. meanwhile AMD is weaker in competition, hence they iterate existing architectures instead. even the RDNA shares tons of common points with GCN. Thanks to that core they share, all PS4/Xbox One games run seamlessly on nextgen gen consoles. None of this would be possible with the mindset that Nvidia has.

and lastly, it might be caused by a driver bug as well but it went under the radar sadly

so, purvispisgah purvispisgah , try installing 471.11 and tell us how your experience changed

More evidence that for future games to be successful, they need to launch day one on Gamepass and PS Plus on day one.

Nobody wants to buy games anymore because it's so expensive and archaic. The way forward is to release all AAA games day one on GP and Plus, plus ensure those games never leave the service. Give it a few years and I'm sure publishers will start seeing some bloody sense and follow through with this.

I don't know about that exactly. I can see your point if it's a new IP or something. I'm more likely to try an unknown entity when it's included in a sub then spend between $30-$70 bucks on something I'm not sure I'll enjoy.

That said, after playing it and loving it -- if they do a follow up, I'd probably buy it instead of waiting for Gamepass/PS Plus

I get your point but I don't agree. There were a few problems surrounding Guardians of the Galaxy. The timing of it is problematic. It came out after Avengers. Which garnered a ton of well deserved negative criticism. Many people viewed GotG to be a quick cash grab that was effectively going to be copying Avengers to some degree. There was so much ill will caused by Avengers that it soured the launch among other factors but I do see this as the biggest detractor overall.

I will still pay for non game pass titles all day.

I was actually going to buy in on next steam sales, no cap

they had decent local regional pricing on Steam (yes, Steam suggests prices but not every dev complies) , and I was interested in the game. I was surprised when it was included in game pass but happy at the same time (no money spent on game now).

After playing on Game Pass, I'd definiteely say it would've deserved the money I were to pay for it.

This is the category I fit in exactly. I came in expecting little and so far I'm enjoying the game a lot.

It's too bad it released not too long after the shit-fest that was Avengers or it would have been on my radar, I love games like Mass Effect and this feels somehow similar. I came in expecting porn parody GotG but instead it's more comic book GotG mixed with some of the humor from the movies. Gameplay is bordering on jank but it's manageable, overall decent. I love that I got to fly the ship already, that was fun. Cutscenes are well managed and not overdone though QTEs are always cancer. Music is awesome.

If I'd had any idea this was what it is I'd have just bought it on Steam at launch.

I'm always glad when there are accessibility options to disable the damn things. This game has the option so that's good.

I was not aware, I will definitely be turning them off then. "Press x now" in the middle of a movie or instant death, always just as I pick up my glass to take a drink too.

Thanks for this write up. I'll give it a shot!

970 is a great card btw. Not going to run games in 4k obviously, but at 1080, it's been fantastic for years now.

It’s an unreliable metric because it doesn’t take into considering the much higher digital splits on the Xbox platform. Especially when the all-digital Series S is factored in.

Multiplats generally sell more on PlayStation due to the higher install base, but the true splits with digital factored in are usually much closer than the boxed sales would imply.

This is well known at this point. Just surprised you didn’t know this.

Oh yes I do know this. I also now there ALSO is an all digital PS5 and I also know digital on PS5 sells more vs. physical. So to be honest I am not expecting the split to be extremely different there. Do you?

Just look at Amazon.co.uk for an idea of the ratio, it’s 60/40 for the SS whereas for PS5 it’s 85/15 for the disc version (based on reviews).

So when they sell the same amount of consoles there’s four times as many digital only Xbox. Just because they both offer a digital console doesn’t mean they have the same ratio.

Its typically like a 10% absolute difference which is roughly 14-20% absolute difference.

Most recently you can see an example here:
WWE 2K22 combined split: 56% on PS, 41 on Xbox, 3% on PC (First Week Physical splits was 72% on PS, 28% on Xbox, don't think we got digital numbers)

Even if for nothing else, the graphical quality, especially character modeling and facial expressions, everything involving the tech is top notch. I hope you're playing on PC because on console all you're doing is chosing which mode is less shit from three shit modes. Which visual feature you want sacrificed and which kept.

Not on PC, my PC would struggle just to get at 5 fps with this game, seeing as it is a 2014 model, so Series X it is...when it comes to PC gaming, Point and clicks and classic real time strategy games it is....like that Star Wars RTS game from years ago...which still hasn't been bettered to this day..

I would not hesitate in recommending playing this with the 30 FPS RT mode on the newer consoles. Yes, frame rate is king yada yada, but this games artwork and presentation shines in the higher resolution. The RT mode runs the same resolution the high quality mode did with minor differences, and at the very least it's a good 30 FPS without any frame pacing issues.

Why do people like to tell these lies? It's like certain people are working for the "industry" on GAF. Do we have industry plants on this forum?

I don't work in the gaming industry. What I said wasn't a lie, but my own personal opinion.

Let me ask you this. If I gave you the option of paying £70 for a single game, or for a monthly fee you can have access to every game that releases on day one, what would you choose?

Well, I'd do both lol. I'd buy the games from the developers that I wanted to fully support and then "rent" all other games (which is probably 33% of the games I'd play). But I think most people would just pay the monthly fee to get access to every game. But I'm a HUGE believer that business model can't work for 80% of publishers\self funding devs. The industry would cease to exist as we know it today.

If the prices stayed the same then it wouldn't work. For this to work there would obviously have to be a price increase, but I'd be willing to pay £70 pm or more for such a service.

Hold on.........you'll be willing to pay $70 per "MONTH"?

Wow, I can't believe how much nicer this plays on my 1070 PC over Xbox Series S. Gone is the weird sharpness and dithering to a lovely clear image. With AMD FSR, I can play at 4K in the 40s. Well impressed.

I officially prefer these Guardians to the movie versions. I usually hate it when characters in NPCs won't shut up but this banter is actually fluid and funny. Drax has a comment for every occasion. "Watch your backs guys" "That is literally impossible!" I'm actually disappointed when I cut off the banter by accident.

Tons of awesome details all over too, post-it notes on the fridge, Quill's farm home is just a nostalgia overload. I grew up in that period of time and damned near everything in the house is something I remember from those days. Clearly a lot of heart went into this game, easily the biggest surprise game this year for me.

Just in the very early stages of the game, as someone who enjoys 80's and 90s music compared to what you get today, I liked the initial selection of tracks you can have playing in the background on your ship, but it is a shame they didn't allow you to add your own custom soundtrack, but (some) of what I would have added to the playlist would have been:
