Appropriate or not I was just saying that we are witch hunting a guy (I've never even seen a video of him) for chatting with a teenager that has not a "developed brain" but that can buy a weapon a drive a car.

Also as far as I understood she never really said anything about this right?
Ahh so you know this minor was of this age?

you're worse off than i thought

the fact you're comparing the acts of a comedian to the actual words and deeds of a deranged individual streaming on a gaming platform for anyone over the age of 13 show that you are completely out of touch with reality
Jesus Christ another got damn clown...

I'm not comparing anything.

I literally said they are both acts. Dave Chappelle acts have been criticized most recently by the LBGTQ community for homophobia. Doc has been criticized for using Chinese accents as he's talking smack to Chinese players years ago when he was playing PUBG regularly.

I also said, knowingly texting a minor inappropriately is where I draw the line. I also voted "Maybe but only if...". What the fuck are you actually talking about dude.

You were using Roman Polanski as an incredibly weak example for why we shouldn't think much of this situation and I pointed out why that doesn't make any sense whatsoever. The fact you're strawmanning this hard to defend a piece of shit like dr speaks volumes about you as a person. So I simply told you that there were still consequences for mr polanski (contrary to what you seemed to think) for something he did over 45 years ago, when this very subject wasn't nearly as loaded as it is now.

I never said I was the only one. But I'm not surprised reading comprehension isn't really your thing when harassing someone underage is A-OK for you. And yeah man, I'm such an arrogant piece of shit for having healthy sexual preferences :messenger_sad_relieved:
Do you suffer from a mental illness? The underlined text represents completely false and made up nonsense that you somehow managed to conjure up in your head. Is English not your first language because you somehow managed to completely misinterpret everything I said, and honestly, you should apologize for it.

He's just getting cancelled for cancellations sake. I write to girls all the time under 18. Age of consent is 15 in my country so its fine. But states apparently has 18 as age of consent so its a bit more tricky over there. It was stupid of him for sure to write to someone under 18 in that case. Anyway I don't care a lot about it all and if he manages to come back and he does good stream/content I'll probably watch.

I don't separate the two. I'm just being honest. I have been a fan of Doc. I think that it's unclear whether he was aware that it was a minor or not. The safe choice would be to air on the side of caution and assume he did know, because it was not said otherwise.

I've thought about the details of the situation. This minor, had to have been a content creator of some sort. Their were no pictures sent, so the question becomes, why would Doc entertain this in the first place? He had to have at least some knowledge of who this person was prior to the texting...or maybe been made privy to their identity from texting on twitch. Not that this matters by itself, but I wonder if there was a way doc could reasonably assume it was a minor he was texting.

I think of it like this. I'm a fan of Dave Chappelle. Some would consider his comedy...inherently racist, misogynistic and maybe even homophobic. But it's an act...that's why he doesn't lose fans. If Dave Chappelle cheated on his wife, would I stop consuming his comedy? No...it's none of my business.

Granted, if Dave Chappelle was inappropriate with a person he knows is a minor, that's where I draw the line...just like what I stated in my OP in regards to Doc.

So no sir, you misunderstand me if you think this tweet reminds you of me.
The reporting says Twitch told him this person was a minor and not only was he ok with it he upped how graphic the DMs were

So not only after a certain point did he know it was a minor its kind of apparent he liked that fact since the DMs became even more graphic

Edit - According to the Rolling Stones article it was the minor themselves who told Doc they were a minor, not Twitch and yet he continued with the graphic content

I haven't seen this report, not that I don't believe you. Could you post a source?

So, as the father of a future 12 yo girl myself, what do you do to monitor your daughter? I occasionally listen in to the streams my older son joins and the chatter of his games, but don't really check his texts since it doesn't seem like he does it much. Do you read her chat logs or have access to her social media?

Make sure their phones/iPads are all under strict Parental Control and the password into them is one you set up, we occasionally i.e. the wife and I will grab one of their phones, unlock and read about 2mins of inane chit chat before logging out, kids really do talk the biggest load of shite, on my kids phones they can't download or access anything without my approval, they don't get social media bollocks and knows not to ask for it, I've raised them to be aware that anyone they chat too online that they don't know physically can be an adult with bad motives so from an early age they really don't engage with anyone they don't know personally and stay on top of that shit, kids are wiley bastards and constantly look to undermine you but so far so good

Don't know if this is off topic... or if this is even the place to ask. But it's either this or I create a thread just to ask one question. So here's my question.

Why do people watch other people play games?

I don't get it... I can understand watching a snippet of a game if you are looking for a hint or if its some guide. But why would someone, put hours of their time, into watching someone else play a game? It's like watching a stream of someone else watching a movie.

I don't get it.
I can see three big reasons people watch others stream games. The 1st is if the streamer is a very skilled player and it's really not much different than watching other people play sports at a high level or any else that takes talent, especially if you are personally invested in the game or sport.

The second reason is where the game being played is kind of secondary and people are instead turning in because of the actual streamer. Whether because they're funny, have a ton of charisma, flaunting tits, etc, it doesn't really matter. In some cases it kind of reminds me of something like Mystery Science Theater which is a show where you literally do watch someone else watch movies.

Finally, I think it acts as a social outlet for the people who engage in chat on streams. I actually think it's a huge draw for some people who might have social anxieties or personality disorders and these streaming platforms allow them to get some human interaction they might not get elsewhere. Unfortunately this also creates ideal conditions for creating parasocial relationships.

So yeah, that's my opinion. I'm curious if you could agree with any of it or if you think it's dumb

Well, none of us know the age of the child. All we know if that he sent sexually graphic messages to a minor when he knew their age. You can try to grade that on some sort of sliding scale if you like, but in my eyes it's a disgusting thing for a married man in his mid-thirties to do.

It is a scale. If everything is labeled as the worst, it diminishes the seriousness of actual heinous crimes. If it later emerges that the person he was messaging was 17 at the time, the next time someone is accused a pedophile, a significant number of people may dismiss the claim. On a lighter note, it's like how some people here like to call everything woke the moment there is any diversity in a game, and now anytime something gets labeled woke a large number of people just dismiss it. Anyways I don't even want to seem like I'm trying to defend they guy, I can't stand the dude. I'm happy he might be gone, dude isn't funny and he is cringe as fuck.

Not a single person has claimed what DrD has done is ‘the worst’.

But what most are saying is that a married man with children sending sexually explicit messages to an underage minor is fucking gross, and the consequences that are happening to him are justified.

Pretty regressive for a Western democracy, where age of consent being 16 is pretty standard.

Sorry, but when as a Brit you should be aware of Labour's plans to lower voting age to 16 when they (almost inevitably) take power next week. I'm struggling to feel the outrage!
The whataboutism is off the scale.

I get what the guy is saying with regards to the "the worst".

If you say a middle-aged man who is married and has a child is sending inappropriate messages to a minor that are borderline illegal, then my instinctual reaction is he's a disgusting person who lacks morals and ethics and his behavior should definitely be punished with regards to his social status and his work as a popular figure.

However, if you say that same man is actually engaging in pedophilia then my instincts are he should be castrated, locked up for life or possibly face capital punishment.

You're going to be banned to whatever shit hole of a country you live in. Bye.
Banned for what? Offending you virgins going for grannies?

And just saying my country has arguably the hottest girls in the world. Atleast they're known for that by Americans I think. So you can take a guess what shit hole I live in.

The Age of Consent debate is a dark rabbit hole. Teen sex ranks up there at the top of porn statistics. Pick a state and their AOC is different. Had he lived in another state besides California he’d be sitting just fine. What’s a sex offender if he moved to a state where the AOC is lower? His life isn’t destroyed. Going behind your wife’s back like that? That’s slimy and gross.

It’s a lot of stupid choices besides the whole minor thing. He’s cheated on his spouse and now he’s been chatting with “girls” online. It shows how low he’s gotten. I never watched his stream before besides a few clips of his Elden Ring stuff. Would I let my kids watch him? Nope. I actually thought watching him play the DLC was going to be entertaining because he’s a big FPS person.

The controversy surrounding this has certainly shown there's still a lot of incompatibility between certain cultures, even among first world countries.

IDGAF about any streamer, but it's been "fun" to see how the discourse has moved from "sexting a minor is wrong" to "she was 17, it's legal within some jurisdictions". Like, where does the 17 part come from? Any concrete evidence?

(And if you're of the type to know the age of consent in various regions, yes, you have a problem. Or may be working on a Yandere Simulator.)

Moral of the story: He should have waited a couple of months for her to turn 18. She would have been the exact same person she was a day prior, but hey, at least she's not 24 hours younger than 18 anymore. Career successfully left intact!

Yes. Remember this is from 7 years ago when he did the whole cheating on his wife thing and he went through a rough period then and his wife I GUEUSS forgave him and he made amends. This whole thing that's coming up now is still a remnant from that time when he had PUSSY thrown at him all of a sudden in his mid 30's out of nowhere b/c he became famous. He GAVE INTO temptation and he suffered from that with his family life, his professional life, the embarrassment of it all especially with how public it is etc. He's now lost Twitch, possibly Youtube since they removed his memberships and all of his sponsors. I think that's penalty enough. Him messaging a 17 year old when he was probably messaging a bunch of gals as seen from that transgender person, isn't enough to make me go AHAH! He was already a creep and a shithead for cheating on his wife and putting his daughter behind his sexual commitments. At the end of the day he made a bunch of mistakes and we aren't perfect. He was put in a very tough position becoming famous all of a sudden and having so many people throw themselves at him. It's not easy and he failed the test. As long as he apologizes which he did and his wife and family forgive him, then I can too. I'd say the Doc today is much different than the Doc from 7 years ago and he's learned a lot from then.

I don't know what Doc did or didn't do but not the kids. Period.

Some things are just intolerable.

Besides he's 40 something years-old, and rich enough to know better than to be sexting anyone he doesn't know personally.

At the level he was at, everything is a liability and the scrutiny is greater.
Kids, the elderly and animals are just points of no returns for me if you abuse any of them in any form

Influence garnering giga chads are going to get in bed with people's 18 year old late teen daughters and there's nothing they can legally do about it. Although, fathers having them stare down the barrel of a shotgun is an option I guess. Definitely not legal though, of course.

I probably leave in the same country as you ... and even though that is the law is not black and white as it seems ... specially not among the society .. is not remotely common seeing 15 or even 16 year olds walking with full grown man, specially above 30 ... and cases of rape have prosecuted even within the ages limit... now things start to get muddled after 17 because as our culture goes alot of 17 year olds look and behave like a woman ... and since you basically dont have to know the age of the person after 15 nobody is bothering to ask.

We also have a very bad control of underage (18) access to alcohol and places they shouldn't be wich also dosent help the situation.

Particularly as a father of a 13 year old daughter I wish we leaved in a more conservative country, but it is what it is.

Having said that... this is a multicultural forum and the case in discussion is happening in the US with very different laws and customs... so all of us have to fine tune our "reality" to have this discussions without our country bias.

I thought he was a wanker before this all came to light and now I think he's a nonce. I hope his wife takes him to the cleaners. ❤️
Do you understand how empirical data works? Any good poll should take care to eliminate confounds as best as possible to get what would be the most accurate result.

People being able to vote anonymously promotes accuracy, as it avoids social conformism. People having to vote prior to seeing results also helps with accuracy. I did allow folks to change their vote based on the conversation here. Some people may be swayed by intelligent debate.

Personally, lack of information and misinformation can lead to folks being torn about the situation.

As a fan of Doc, I didn't wanna believe it. Then he came out and said it...I still left the door open to thinking maybe he didn't know, but I'm finding out thanks to HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 that Doc continued to pursue these inappropriate texts after he was informed of the individuals age...by the person his/herself.

If this is true...then that's it. I can't continue to support that.

It sucks cuz I enjoy watching Doc, I'm not like fanatic or anything...but I can appreciate the effort and creativity he puts into the show. I rarely chat in his stream, I don't stay for long when I watch...I may watch a half an hour or so and then tune out because I do have other stuff to do. However, as streamers go at least, Doc was top of his class.

Damn shame, really...but yea, can't do it. Changing my vote from "Maybe, but only if" to "No, though I'm a fan of Doc, I cannot support this."

My bad on the wording, its in the Rolling Stones article that it wasn't Twitch who told him they were a minor it was the minor themselves telling him and he continued with the graphic messages

I don't have access to Rolling Stones just seeing quotes from the article
That's a Rolling Stones article, though, isn't it?
It's a step above "Source: Trust me, bro". But not by much. That's the same magazine just going with a made-up gang r*p* claim in the late 2010s, isn't it?
Trusting journalists just isn't a thing I do any more.

The real issue here is that Doc has (afaik) neither confirmed nor denied knowing about the person's age while writing the texts.
If he didn't know, it makes his actions dumb as fuck (because at the very least, it didn't cross his horny mind at that moment), but not really something to justify this witch hunt over.
If he did, I get how people want to spit in the guys face, especially also considering the cheating. The guy is provably not a role model, let's put it like that :pie_roffles:
But whatever he does say, it then becomes a question of believing him or not.

We'll simply never know.
Unless Twitch itself (not some ex employee with a grudge) presents original DM logs and in there the person makes it clear to Doc she's a minor. And I have a feeling Twitch won't do that, because apart from Doc, Twitch has definitely been acting despicably throughout the entire thing.
And at this point, there'd probably be severe legal repercussions if they did.

And no, I'm not a fan of the guy. That persona is difficult to watch IMO.
Too much pretend machism for me. Strong small dick energy.
Though I can appreciate the effort going into the show.
