It's a copy/paste world. Just sub to Gamepass for a month and then try it.
Just get it on gamepass for a dollar. They let you choose PC gamepass and gamepass ultimate and one of those two should have a $1 deal going on for non-subscribers.
I played for a few hours but it was very workman like. It takes two hours to get to the open world. Then when you get there you realize that its basically the same shit we had back in Halo Combat Evolved but slightly bigger. Combat is the same. Grappling hook is good but didnt do much to change things up.
It isnt bad. It isnt great. It isnt a waste of time.
Better than Reach? If you like Halo then yes, absolutely. It’s a bloody great time. Probably my favourite Halo campaign since Halo 3.
Would I be more happy if it had more than one biome? Sure. I think they could have added a bit more varied vegetation and play around with snow and stuff like that, but at the end of the day, did it really take away from my enjoyment of the game? I don't think so. I just accepted that the game take place on a tiny portion of the ring that is artificially built and thus not exactly full of variety.
Better than Reach?

I paid $60 for the campaign and loved every moment of it. Spent more time playing the campaign than any other on a single play through. Largest world to do date as well. The thread title is the question essentially. It's currently 50% off on Steam and I'm wondering whether it's now worth a shot?
I don't care about the story (never have in this franchise) so all I care about is whether or not the gameplay and campaign structure make it worth my while at that price. Is it varied enough and is it well structured?
Steam reviews are mixed with a slight slant towards being on the positive end of the spectrum so this isn't an easy one to figure out. I've already refunded a game this sale (crysis remastered collection - they really fucked up by making those remasters based on the console versions, the suit controls and lack of freedom are a joke) so don't want to push it. I'm looking for a solid FPS with a good campaign to replace that.
Somehow this was Neogaf GOTY last year but yet this is still a question that needs asking.
So what do people think now a year later?
It's one of the best first person shooter campaigns ever when talking strictly from a gameplay perspective.
The campaign is very fun imo - do not get the hate
Yeah, the 2021 GAF Game of the Year is not getting enough credit on GAF.Game isn't getting enough credit here.

Since I’m commenting in this thread, I’m obviously talking about the poll results of this thread. Try to keep up.
For you, I'll try to keep it upYeah Dick. Try to keep up /s

Yeah, the world isn't truly "open world" in size, and the single biome is disappointing, but 343 expanded the Halo formula in novel ways (and the majority of the changes really work), the visuals are really solid, the music is exquisite, the game tries to do more with Master Chief as a character than ever before, but most importantly...
The gameplay. The combat and gameplay loop is the best ever put in a console first person shooter this side of DOOM or Titanfall 2. The gameplay loop itself reminds me a lot of Spider-Man on PS4/PS5. Repetitive but in all the right ways, where you get into this groove/zone of clearing areas and you just feel like a complete badass. Also like DOOM or Spider-Man, the combat starts to feel like a choreographed ballet as you level up and gain more abilities to use during encounters. It's so fun.

Why not sub to Game Pass for $1 and then try the game out? If you like it, buy the game on Steam for 50% off. If you think the game is trash, you're only out a dollar and a small amount of time.Opinions seem as mixed here as they are on Steam so think I'll wait it out until its even cheaper then.
Won't bother with gamepass, would rather buy something else for the money that is actually going to be worth my time at the price.
You can set your Xbox to update in the background when you are at work or sleeping. As an Xbox player, I can't stand MCC and Infinite because I have to constantly download stupid updates that are huge for games I barely ever play.
FUCK THIS.
When I am not in front of my console, it is turned off. No reason to waste energy. You can set your Xbox to update in the background when you are at work or sleeping.

Infinite gets a lot of shit for its story, but I'd love to see someone try to summarise the "plot" of Reach.Better than Reach?

Pretty concise summary here,Infinite gets a lot of shit for its story, but I'd love to see someone try to summarise the "plot" of Reach.
Halo: Reach takes place days before the original title in the franchise, Halo: Combat Evolved. The United Nations Space Command has been at war with the Covenant, a fleet of aliens driven to exterminate the human race. With the demise of several human-run colonies, Reach is the only one left. This is where a group known as Noble Team comes into play. A group of soldiers, or Spartans, Noble Team attempts to stop the Covenant by any means. The player takes control of Noble Six, a newcomer to the group, as they aid in the battle against these alien foes.
To say that Halo Reach elicits dread would be an understatement. Halo: Combat Evolved’s story revolves around UNSC’s continued war against the Covenant, one that they couldn’t overcome in the past. Longtime players know how Reach’s story will play out, and no matter what actions they take, the result will be the same. This makes the player’s interactions with their fellow Noble Team members all the more impactful. Nonetheless, the team pushes onward, serving as a collective shield against an increasingly helpless human race.
Energy is a small price to pay to now have my time wasted by sitting through an update that could have happened days ago without be taking part, but to each his own. When I am not in front of my console, it is turned off. No reason to waste energy.

That's the premise, not what actually happens during the missions. Out of 11 missions, the last 2 have some form of meaningful objective of preserving a Cortana fragment. For the rest I think you'll struggle to remember what the point of anything was, or what exactly was achieved.Pretty concise summary here,

That is due to the outcomes not changing anything leading up to CE. Humans get fucked is the premise. That's the premise, not what actually happens during the missions. Energy is the highest price to pay, along other things we waste without second thought.Energy is a small price to pay to now have my time wasted by sitting through an update that could have happened days ago without be taking part, but to each his own.
Edit: not needed, sorry GHG.That's really the best way to go. Take advantage of the $1 deal, play the campaign and see for yourself.
That specifically is a very good idea.Maybe I should have mentioned this in my OP but gamepass is not a route I'm going down for just this game. Would rather save the $1 offer (if it even exists for me since I'd be a returning subscriber) for when I have a whole bunch of games I want to try - that's likely to be at some point next year if all goes to plan in terms of the release schedule.
I guess I'm spoiled then since my energy prices are amongst the cheapest in the US, and I also don't worry about update size and timing in regards to how I view the quality of a game.Energy is the highest price to pay, along other things we waste without second thought.
Well designed games don't need 60 GB updates every 2 weeks.
