leaked Insomniac inclusivity training video

And who made it so every business and public space in America had to be wheelchair accessible? A republican president. I only mention that because people need to step away from the us vs them lie that only liberals care about doing the right thing, or helping people who are disadvantaged. People are just divided when it comes to what the right thing is.

To talk opportunity vs outcome for a moment, a ramp for a wheelchair represents both. The end goal of being able to reach the sidewalk is an equal outcome, but not having any ramp there means there's no equal opportunity. So that's equality, not equity.

The boxes are different because those are resources, and we're talking about taking from one group to provide for another. But the example of the boxes is overly simplified, and leaves a lot of questions unanswered. Who provided the boxes? Was it the stadium? Was it the government? Was it the tall man? If so, does he own all the boxes? Will the boxes be returned to him after the game in case he needs more boxes for a different situation?

Are people of all races able to get into your college? That's equality. Are you bothered by the fact that there are too many of one race and not enough of another according to the surrounding population, so you make it so one group needs to have very high test scores, and another group needs to have much lower test scores, depending on their race? That is equity.

And that sounds nice, until you've found that you've literally been discriminated against because of your race and won't be getting into the school you wanted, because resources are always limited. But in true "that wasn't real socialism" fashion, the people making these rules won't ever have to worry about their kids not getting in, because those will be legacy admissions. Real equity doesn't exist. It's a socialist utopia that can never be due to human nature. The people making the rules will always have more power and give themselves more resources.

I'd ask how you're defining equity but honestly definitions always dominate the discourse so I can't be bothered anymore lol

Only brought this up because Stealth's ban was unjustified accusing him of supporting equality of outcome

TLOU2 might appear woke on the surface but you get the feeling that it's creators were making the game they want to make rather than rattling off a checklist to appease people. There is a difference. Cyberpunk 2077 and Rockstar games are also very diverse but they never appear as if it is being made from some woke checklist.
I think CD Projekt Red got infected. They tried to pander to the Era crowd by putting in that obnoxious trans flag stuff. Of course it didn't help them.

Also Phantom Liberty feels pretty woke with strong female president and black dude in lead role. Granted I just started it so not sure how it plays out.

I would just put 300 dollar genderless and featureless carved wooden dolls on the shelves to adhere to rules.

Yes it is. I respect everybody and don't care who you sleep with or if you want your dick removed, let alone what your skin color is. I'm halve black myself. But I absolutely hate having woke shit shoved down my throat especially since it is done in the most unnatural and forced way possible. These people are going to far with their agenda and can go fuck themselves.

Yea but you can't let it get to you that much.. it's def ruining video games tho.

Just watch a few Dave Chappelle clips when its coming on too strong and you'll feel better

I just spent four paragraphs doing so.

Right, arguing over definitions is often a barrier to meaningful discussion. People should generally be on the same page and have an agreed upon starting point before they can understand where their differences are.

I always get mixed up between equality and equity. For me, whichever one is the merit based where you achieve your own success is my choice.

But that doesn't mean I am 100% every man for himself. That's the problem as you mentioned people have. All or nothing left or right. I am anti-gun and pro-choice, but I am also for low taxes and harsh crime punishments. So am I left or right?

Regarding race based discrimination, that topic has historically been a right wing draconian viewpoint where some warlord kingpins and corrupt governments enslave people with an iron fist. If you look different you are treated like a segregated piece of shit because the assumption is the person is a dumbass foreigner.

However, I dont see right wing people doing that. All they stress is whomever deserves it based on merit gets it. That is zero racial discrimination. Oddly, liberals are the one pushing for race based outcomes, perks, ratios, and segregation booster points based on skin colour. So if anything, that draconian prejudice viewpoint can be shifted over to the left.

I mean...the world's biggest game for the next 10-15 years, released it's first main trailer starring a Latina woman. And everyone loved it. And it broke records.

Come on y'all. Insomniac I mean. That's pretty pathetic.

Puerto Rico identifies as Cuba.

Anyone who watched it, did they consult minorities in New York or was it outside NYC? If outside NY they might as well consulted Gordon Ramsey.
I heard people in USA aren't good with international geography.

Maybe there's a lot of people from NYC with Puertorican family who also have wrong flags at home: one from Cuba, other from Venezuela, other from Colombia etc xDD

They don't fight racism. They're adding fuel to the fire.

21st century wokeism is the most sarcastic form of racism. It's like satire.

And people who push this nonsense are either too dumb to understand that or they're making a profit from it.
It is even worse. It has become a cult or a new religion. Gen Z has been indoctrinated into this insane way of thinking. They are also targeting their kids making woke books and tv shows. The universities have been poisoned and teach this non SENSE to young adults. Look at Mao in China to see where identity politics lead. They have already become authoritarians with cancel culture now removing Trump from the ballots.

Its infecting videogames just like the movies. We really are into the Panderverse. What is scarey is many other developers have this same kind of thinking. Taking that ESG money.

I dont know what it's like in other countries, but in Canada there is big potential for rewards if you adhere to government contract requirements. If you dont, you cant bid. No shame too. It's public on the federal website.

You'd think as part of being efficient with every dollar, any organization big or small would go for deals and partnerships with other organizations that have what they need at a good price. Colour and sexuality blind business ethics and negotiations. Guess not.

Now you know why big corporations enjoy PRing their diversity and HR is so big on ensuring their labour force can overrepresent minorities.

When I did grad school way back, schools would be rated in various metrics and the more female and minority profs in the faculties the higher the rating. So the assumption is just because someone is female or isn't white, these skin deep categories trump knowledge. There werent even ratings for faculty experience or knowledge or tenure. So the higher the diversity score, the higher the school ranking in magazines and global surveys, which mean more students want it and jacking up fees.

It's as racialized a caste system as what existed 100 years ago, it's just arranged in different ways.

Utterly, utterly race obsessed and racist are these people, they make a KKK Grand Wizard or 1800s English African anthropologist blush with the essentialism these people put to race, it's every fibre of your being.

We're going backwards from what was supposed to be the 21st century's ideals about it, society will only get worse until these racist cultists are told in no uncertain terms to fuck off.

I will never have a problem with an entertainment company wanting to inglcresse diversity and who is represented in their games.

It's not a one size fits all, but it also doesn't have to be all or nothing. Too many have the perspective of it being an "attack" on some other group if you represent this or that group. And the response to that has been to imply anything that features an otherwise marginalized group to be an attack in the same vein.

The discourse on this trend has gone off the deep end and it won't recover for a while.

I didn't compare left leaning to right leaning, I compared right leaning to avowed socialists. And equity by definition is equal outcome, not equal opportunity, which again is a socialist concept. Aside from that, here's where equity has brought us:

A word of advice: don't justify anything in this video, or "both sides" anything about this conflict, or it could very well lead to a ban. Many people have lost their accounts in the Israel thread. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "bans" on the lower right for some examples.

Lastly, teaching isn't about equity, it's about passing down knowledge. It's the literal definition.

That video is so hyper edited, you shouldn't trust it.

The premise was funny but the guy clearly didn't get the results he wanted so he had to chop up the video and cobble together something that would support it.

This is probably the same type of people who work at insomniac

That was fucking awful. "Translators" who hate the source material, hate the fans deliberately mangle the translation and shove their own opinions into the translation should be fired immediately. No ifs and buts. What a bunch of obnoxious, nasty people.

A black lead and a female president especially in a futuristic setting is not "woke", y'all just throw the term around and its completely lost it's meaning. Is The Fifth Element woke too?

Internal videos like this don't really surprise me. Like with that Hyenas pitch video that was leaked a few months back, it wasn't meant to be seen by public audiences, and it looks all the more ridiculous for it.

This is probably the same type of people who work at insomniac

The title of that video is so obnoxious. I don't care who uses it or what the context is, the term "woke" has lost any meaning (if there was any meaning to begin with) and it needs to be taken out back and double-tapped.

That aside, that footage of Jamie Marchie's response was embarrassing at the time, and it's still embarrassing now. Going at any portion of your fanbase is not going to pay off for you or the company you work for in the long run. She just seems like an incredibly insufferable person.

Calm down. Every big corporation has this kind of training videos.
We are living in interesting times.
What is wierd to me is that we need a training to teach us to be human?
Probably it's not a training but a warning. Who knows?

Nah, sure it's, over used and misused at times. But the term "woke" being Judo-ed into a label for the mind virus that is the social justice movement/industry/religion has helped more people understand and see what's happening to modern culture. Identifying and labeling a problem is the first step towards actually resolving it. To throw that out now simply because it can cause some confusion would be foolish.

Indeed, having non whites in the games is normal, but we all know what is actually woke, u can tell from that forced diversity vid, and from many AAA games from last 6-7 years.
Gta san andreas had really lots of black ppl in there, black protagonist, hell even black villan, it didnt make it woke, games quality was main priority, not some weird overrepresentation/agenda.
Or u guys thinking famous hot coffee files that were in the og game were sign of the wokeness too ;P

When views on race and gender take on the worst characteristics of religious extremism, including being intolerant, judgmental, and censorious, and also prone to ostracism, sanctimony, hypocrisy, justification of cruelty, etc

If you have another word to describe this mindset, please suggest it. If you want people to stop using the term because it doesn't have a universally agreed upon definition, then I'm sorry, but that's just the nature of language. That said, I usually avoid the word as well, because it is divisive and generally makes people defensive.

Remember when game developers simply had people who were passionate about the video games they were creating? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Clearly the Insomniac I knew and loved is long gone, then again that was way back when they were making games like the original Spyro trilogy. If you look at the culture they had back then, and compare it to today, it's like nothing from their glory days remains. This is simply a product of what has happened industry wide to AAA in general, the corporatization of big developers who need to cave into the demands of executive boards who sit around big publisher offices. They have their graphs, focus on trends, and set out objectives based upon ideals and out of touch projections. Developers get filled with people who are simply collecting a paycheck and doing a job as ordered, passion is no more, and games are just another product to put on another graph.

This is exactly why I have found myself gravitating away from AAA and towards AA. Smaller developers and publishers seem to resemble the way the gaming industry used to be, where passion still exists, developers still care about what they're doing, the focus is on creating the best games they can with a vision as opposed to trying to moneymax and please investors as well as executive boards. Can't say I'm surprised by this point either, as more money has been pumped into the industry, it seems like this sort of thing was inevitable.

Research and cultural Studies is not forced diversity but at least they are trying

It's no different from let's say infinity war/treyarch going to military base and studying the guns and day to day activities of soldiers

Gaming culture overreacts to everything, if insomniac or naughty dog were getting negative reviews and poor sells,I would complain

But so far they have been great at their job, and still getting hate from people who have no idea how to run a company of that magnitude will never not make me laugh.

The games are dope, no harassment complaints, I take no issue with the diversity video. Gamers need to chill

Plus the term "woke" or "wokeness" whether positive or negative is just so corny and outdated, it's 2024 people 😆

Bruh, so you thought a company today would be the same company from 23 years ago.

These companies are not our friends, whether they sell cup cakes, gas or videogames, it's about balancing profits with consumer interest.

These companies hire people more qualified than us and as long as they do the numbers, they don't owe us shit, facts
