What is the next step when moderation and IP bans have no observable effect anymore and the hassle of babysitting unruly users becomes more trouble than it's worth, to the detriment of the rest of the site?

Reevaluate what it means to moderate a forum? Funny thing is EL catered to these same people after the split and eventual new “era” started. I don’t think you can blame everything on the user side. But that’s my dumb ass opinion.

I have mixed feelings. There were definitely some unsavory takes, but it's hard to find open discussion that really does allow any side of an issue to have their say given reasonable moderation. The places that do seem to inevitably get shutdown/die out or gain the reputation of 4chan/parler. When it came to contentious socio-political issues, I liked being able to see arguments presented for multiple sides here, and I do think I'll miss it.

That said, I definitely had a moment today while skimming the 4th police shooting thread where I took a deep breath and said to myself "F it, let's just look at some boobs." and went looking for updates in the boobie thread

Bad argument. History and familiarity go far to grant you leniency, but it does not give you immunity. When people who were previously constructive suddenly become unconstructive and actively work against the site itself, their overall contribution to the site needs to be reevaluated. Extreme measures are a last resort, and I don't think you appreciate how many second chances and leniencies were granted and then rudely squandered.

I'm wondering if gaming is causing it, though that should wear off pretty quickly once you put the game off and step away from the TV. But those loose camera controls on Dark Souls 3 were killing me last night, I had to take a break every 20 minutes or I'd have vomited for sure.

Not that I'm aware of. Don't feel anything. Woke up one day and was super dizzy after being totally normal the day before. Then the day after I was fine, some minor residual nausea, though the dizziness was gone. Yesterday it returned slightly and today it's pretty bad again, but not as bad a few days ago. But something is definitely off. Every time I turn my head to look in another direction I get a little wobbly and a sudden jolt of nausea.

I have my eyes on the Nier Remake. Thinking about picking that up after DMC5.

Besides that it looks like another year of stay at home vacation. It is what it is, but it still sucks. I'm currently thinking about renting a cottage for a month. It'll be a nice get away from Mario Kart.

You smell or taste something different? Have allergies? Vertigo could be caused by congestion. I've never felt that with gaming, except VR, but my brother does within 10 minutes of playing.

No difference in smell or taste. I have allergies, but not lately. i booked a doctor appt, but have to wait a month. And they'll just probably refer me to a specialist anyway.

I've had some vertigo from time to time. Sometimes if I play Spider-Man too close to the screen, I can get dizzy. Ditto for when a game like Tomb Raider or something has you climbing a really tall tower.

I never used Dramamine myself but from what I heard it makes you tired like Benadryl.

I get bad motion sickness with some games and I found beer helps a lot.
