Leaves a gap for another platform to become a source for hard news and things like government institutions sharing information.

Reading between the lines, it also means they're trying to avoid being flooded with the kind of *wink wink* "free speech" advocates that flooded Twitter when Musk eliminated trust and safety. Which is a very good move business wise. Attract them advertisers and assure the other decentralized networks that it's ok to federate with you.

If they actually manage to make good on this early vision, and take the necessary steps to meet the completely reasonable privacy demands of the EU, I may just say F it and make a Threads account once they separate it from Instagram.

Post fits the news community pretty well.

No politics? Good move. Sounds a lot like another site I like ☺️

I don't imagine myself spending much time on Threads once I finally make an account, but it will be refreshing to have a very large platform that won't foster any of that stuff - of any kind. Just show me some art, movie and TV news, sell me some new Nike's, whatever.

But see this is precisely the reason I preferred Twitter: it’s like the CNN of social: fucking weird when it’s a slow news cycle but an invaluable utility for actual breaking news.

On threads I see shit like this and I’m not even following this person or anyone of their followers.

I’m a closet Swifty but still who the fuck is this and why am I at the mercy of the Facebook algorithm?

I have been known to crank Love Story in the car when I am in a good mood.

You’re only like the 70,000,001 person to complain about there not being a “following” feed. They said it’s coming.

People are happy to let Zuck use their private data however he wants, but not so happy with Elon doing then same while shaking them down for cash and memeing on them.

Completely ignoring how Musk has crippled the app, even if you pay to use it.

This is why Musk is in a panic:

Good. Between demanding account signups to read twitter, and limiting twitter even for those who do have accounts, he deserves to panic. If I paid for my ads to be on twitter and all of a sudden you needed an account to see my ads, I'd be livid. If he just did nothing at twitter other than sit on his hands, he'd literally be doing a better job than he is now.

I still don't want to see him fail, though. I just want him to stop ruining his own site.

All of these web 2.0 tech billionaires are weirdos, but it is funny watching cyborg Zuckerberg eat Elon's lunch and then Elon throwing a tantrum about it. Maybe Jack Dorsey will challenge Zuck to an old flintlock pistol duel before the week is done.

It's funny to me that once you create an account you can't delete it unless you delete your Instagram account. Gotcha bitch! lol.

Web billionaires fighting is so damn weak, like kids yelling stupid shit at each other.

Man, did Elon seriously think firing all of those employees wasn't going to blow up in his face one way or another? Some of them ending up working on Threads is just a form of poetic justice.

I'd love to see all of Facebook fuck off but it's not going anywhere. People actually still use Facebook and WhatsApp feels like it's too big to fail. I think Instagram has been struggling and maybe this Threads shit will keep it relevant.

Instagram is struggling? It’s the only social media service most Millennials use on a daily basis lol.

Elmo has blocked Threads from trending.

I don’t think I’ve seen anything more pathetic in my life than Captain Free Speech banning anything he sees as a threat.

The Musk fans must be chewing on their Tesla stock. He’s completely destroyed any impression that he’s a competent businessman. Over a fucking social media platform 😂

It’s equal parts sad and hilarious how everything was so stupid and predictable and entirely explained by one guy with a god complex having a public manic episode, but so many are convinced he’s still a 4D chess playing genius.

Just look at this breakdown:

I ain't going near that fucking thing even if you paid me. Fuck Facebook, Fuck Instagram, Fuck WhatsApp, Fuck Threads, Fuck Zuck.

despite my earlier post as above i have to admit my curiousity got the better of me so i downloaded Instagram and made an account. Instagram is boring as fuck. It feels like a cheap TikTok rip off (yeah I know IG came first). i didn't even bother downloading Threads. requested that my account be deleted but I have until 6th August to change my mind.

I'm still good on Twitter for now. I'd probably have kept the IG account but I really hate how invasive META is. The amount of tracking that showed up in my App Report is fucking insane. Why are people more than happy to let these companies harvest all their data and track them? Maybe I'm the stupid one for caring about privacy.

I didn't even make an Instagram account until yesterday so I don't know what has been going on. Just from what I've been reading I got the impression that it was struggling (a bit). Maybe it was because of TikTok taking off? I know Instagram isn't going anywhere any time soon.

It's kinda fun so far

100% reminds me of early 2010s facebook cringe when no one really knew how to use it and were just like "is using the washroom" because statuses used to start with "Name is ___", but it's fun, good vibe so far though it's all just goofin and nothing substantial yet

I think the app is fine so far. Desperately needs a following page. @j00xed if anyone wants to see my terrible game screenshots that I post that no one wants to see.

He even banned technology specialists and journalists who merely corrected his lies or pointed out obvious things about his platform when he didn't seem to understand it. He's manifestly the exact opposite of a "free speech absolutist". Like I said many threads ago, anyone who uses such teenaged boy level terminology means the exact opposite of what they're saying.
