Similar sounding apology around the time when Scalebound was cancelled. At this point and with all his apologies sounding so similar, it feels meaningless.

Also similar to when they tried to double the price of XBL Gold. We will try harder to meet the expectations of fans blah blah blah.

Thankfully larger media sites are starting to question his leadership. I've seen 3 articles. I know it's only three :messenger_tears_of_joy:

But he's been saying the same BS PR for years without anyone asking shit so to me, 3 articles is a start lol

I doubt the media is going to question anything.... I remember the "how Phil turned the boat into the right direction" it seems like he was doing a tour to promote a movie... but it was just to promote himself.

It's a bit silly to say FH5 doesn't look graphically impressive

Why?

In my honest opinion, FH5 is not a huge leap visually over FH4. Sure, it has more foliage detail, improved lighting and higher resolution textures on Xbox Series X but it doesnt offer anything new over the last game in terms of technology, its still running on the same engine, and it still has very noticeable pop in issues that can be distracting for me at times even in the 30 fps mode. Most of the visual appeal of the game comes from the location setting which offers more diversity than FH4 and, thus, some really nice views while racing compared with the relatively drab UK location. I'm not saying FH5 isn't a nice looking game overall, just that it doesnt impress me in the way as, say, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on PS5 and it is not what I would descibe as a generational leap visually, even on my PC where it runs with even higher settings than Xbox Series X. It looks, feels and plays exactly like a sequel to FH4 to the point where it almost seems more like an expansion pack.

Sorry, if you don’t agree with that but racing games have reached a graphical level now where they look so good anyway that it is hard for me to be impressed by the graphics anymore in new games because I already have that expectation that they will look at least good! I had the same view of GRID Legend on my Xbox Series X and Gran Turismo 7 on my PS5. Yes, they both look nice but I expected that and compared with their previous games there isn’t a massive visual improvement at all. Gran Turismo 7 impresses me most with its ray-traced replays though, where it can look almost photo-realistic at times, and are also helped by a terrific replay camera (the one in the Forza games are nowhere near as good). However, you don’t get RT during races so much of the time GT7 just looks like GT Sport running at a 4K resolution instead of 1800p.

And then they removed the 12-month $60 XBLG card option, essentially upping the minimum price for 12 months of XBLG to at least $100 anyway. They just did it more sneakily and used another route.

Man, what did you have to remind me that 😞 My cousin sister wanted to use the $1 GP trick and we couldn't buy the 12-month cards online. Had to find physical XBLG 12-month cards from retailers here and pay a little bit of premium. And it wasn't easy to find them either. It was such a mess.

The online store part is scummy. But you can still get the cards.

They are forcing people to subscribe to gamepass, which explains why the 1 year xbox live gold doesn't exist on their store.

Remember, they tried to increase xbox live gold last year.

I don't know about any of you but I'm actually dead ass excited for Starfield. The delay sucks but hopefully it will be worth the wait. My only issue is whether to buy it on Series X or PC, got a monster PC just need something else besides Ori to turn on my series X. Just know the modding community on PC will probably be nuts. Either way this is one MS game that's high as shit on my must-get list.

People are very excited about the game. The delay come at the wrong time, when the game was building the hype.

I'm in South Asia so websites like Best Buy, Walmart, Target, Amazon aren't available -- which only exacerbates the problem. And that's why I had to pay the premium on those cards because physical 12-month XBLG cards always see a shortage.

And yeah, I understand why they are doing it, but it's so shitty. You increase the XBLG price > you get backlash > you apologize and decrease the price > and then you shut down the 12-month cards so the price automatically jumps up from $60 to $100 again. wtf!

The way they did was swift. No peeps from anyone, because those cards are still on the US/Europe stores.

It just shows, that you need an outrage stuff, for people to get angry. Otherwise, they won't notice stuff like these.

I think you may be confusing 1st party and console exclusive. The term 1st party is referring to a developer owned by the respective console manufacturer. 3rd party refers to software developed by a dev team outside of the company.

Edit: As I was not thinking clearly, I misspoke. A first party game is described as a game "published" by the platform holder. Whether it is developed by a in-house or by outside studio is irrelevant.
Not exactly. First party games are made by studios controlled by the platform holder. The platform holder is publishing and developing the games through their own studios... first party.
If a studio works exclusively with a platform holder, but is not owned by them, this is a second party relationship. Think GameFreaks and Nintendo. Think Undead Labs before MS acquired them. Think Bluepoint and Housemarque before Sony acquired them.
Other exclusives would generally be third party, aka Final Fantasy 7 remake being made by SquareEnix.

It's still first party. It has been explained multiple times by platform holders.

Technically wrong, this has been explained multi-million times. 1st party games means when the platform holder publish the game themselves, the devs can be either in-house or external.
So you've explained this multi-million times incorrectly? First party uses in house devs. That is what makes them first party. When a platform holder lists all their first party studios, they never include devs who aren't owned by them, but make games for them.

Wrong, 1st party games means when the platform holder publish the games themselves, regardless of Devs and the publisher owns the IP of that game. Eg. Bloodborne, 1st party game published by Playstation studio, developed by FromSoftware which is not owned by Sony.

What's funny is that in literally every place other than gaf, the difference between first and third party is well known. Just look it up lol
Oh, and Bloodborne was considered first party because Sony Japan helped develop it.
No, sorry, first party means that the platform holder owns the studio. If not, then they're using a third party to develop the game. I mean, this is basic terminology across ALL industries. Gaming isn't different.

No, sorry, clearly you don't understand what's the 1st part games means on the specific platform. I think you need to look for more info. 'Insomniac' explained about this issue in one of their Twitter post, i don't have it but you can dig it up in one of the old post in GAF.

Report me if I continue to console war
I'm prepared to give Phil the benefit of the doubt until the Showcase in less than a month, that will tell us if they are going to actually deliver on what he says.
There does seem to be an odd rush to quickly get barbs in BEFORE the showcase next month. Why not wait to see what is planned THEN criticize? If MS shows nothing next month the commentary is deserved.

Yeah, wait another 15 years... someday the games will come... someday.... MS will buy Star Citizen and it will be released exclusive on XBOX aehm XBOX Series OMEGA!

Put Raven on Riddick or Goldeneye or anything but COD.
Put Obisidian on a Fallout title and release it before 2028.

They have so much talent, so much money. They built and released an awesome feature complete console. How the hell are they so lacking on the first party front?

They dont care about that.

They have every oppurtunity to bash xbox after the showcase, but they want to make a clown of themselves, because of these recent news.

Thrash xbox, if they cant deliver that showcase. Keep your lips closed before that. Or else you would end making a clown of yourself. That is my advice to these people.

News that Redfall and Starfield are being delayed into 2023 made waves this morning, not the least because they were expected to be major tentpole releases for Xbox this holiday season. Since then Xbox CEO Phil Spencer has taken to Twitter to respond, acknowledging fan disappointment while also saying that "delivering quality and consistently is expected" and that Xbox "hears the feedback."

Spencer's tweet reads, "These decisions are hard on teams making the games and our fans. While I fully support giving teams time to release these great games when they are ready, we hear the feedback. Delivering quality and consistency is expected, we will continue to work to better meet those expectations."

Starfield was originally slated for November 2022, where it was expected to be one of the biggest Xbox games of the year. Both it and Redfall join other high-profile exclusives like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 in being pushed into next year.

The initial delay announcement also says we'll get to see the "first deep dive into the gameplay for both Redfall and Starfield soon," potentially pointing to the Xbox/Bethesda Summer Showcase on June 12.

When they are finally shown, it will be the first major look that fans get of either game. So far there's been no gameplay released for either, though Bethesda has afforded a number of glimpses at Starfield — from the game's robot companion to the various facitons in the game.

So far, no official dates have been given for Starfield or Redfall, but the current projected time frame for both is the first half of 2023.
I think it is fair to question the expectations being set with 1st party Xbox studios at this point.

It seems like the expectation is "spend our money and let us know when you have a game."

I'm going PC for sure. Max them graphics and all those glorious mods.

To be fair - MS (as most big publishers) has been blamed for meddling with their studios too much(and rightfully so) - so it's hard to blame them for trying the hands-off approach (if that's indeed what's happening).

Wait till the
End of last year was great but launch year was awful and here we are again. There is no consistency. All we’ve seen from Microsoft’s 1st party studios on Xbox Series since launch is Bleeding Edge, Psychonauts 2, FH5 and Halo Infinite. 3/4 games came Q3/Q4 2021. Do we have to wait til 2023 for the next 3 games?
Wait till the 12th if there's nothing after that I'll join you in the criticism.

Well who knows, maybe Turn 10 will try to repeat what Playground did last year.
What do you think, realistically? Do you think they’ve avoided to talk about or show a game to surprise everyone in the June event for a release in 2022?

Redfall is so damn sad. Arkane went from being a real gamer darling to making crap that would make Ubisoft blush. The gaming journo's who reviewed Deathloop the way they did really killed them. I don't see how they recover. They were so damn good last gen too. I'd go as far as to say this is the biggest fall from grace in ten years. It's like if From Software released Godfall with a straight face.

Most of us expected Starfield to be delayed so this is not a big surprise, really. Wonder what Xbox has to offer instead this year.

I honestly do believe Forza Motorsport will headline this year, but I also think they'll be significant AA exclusives day 1 gamepass and 1 or 2 AAA third party exclusives. If its not anything like that I'll be pissed regardless of how many games they say are coming in 2023.

We all want not a 2nd Cyberpunk but we hate when a Dev delays 2 Games...
Wrong Gamer World...

The delay is a hard move for Xbox 2022 but it will even better 2023😉
The problem is most of the time these games are delayed and still end up being cheeks after release. And the consumers still gotta wait 2 or 3 months as the game is patched to death, lol.

You know there was / is CORONA😬

It all started way before covid existed, all those pre-rendered gameplays, downgrades, multiple delays etc. but people used to close their eyes and give it a pass, and that's exactly why it's such a common practice nowadays, once publishers notice they can get away with something they'll exploit it to death.

This is the exact same reason we're getting unfinished games/GaaS that are actually ready a whole year after launch, due to people blindly believing in day-1 patches and pre-ordering games.

As long as all those games will keep selling in millions nothing will change, MC scores and GOTY awards mean nothing when a spreadsheet shows "we sold XX MLN copies and made XXX MLN revenue", that's really the only thing that ultimately matters for the shareholders.

Covid is currently just a lame, lazy excuse, if anything all thise programmers should be only even more effective when working from their homes, where they have an environment perfectly suited for themselves as oppose to working on those hige open spaces, no distractions, no chit-chatting with peers, just full focus on the work.
