Kick-ass OT, Thanks a bunch mortal mortal .

Can somebody please add a timer, that will be much obliged.

I can't wait anymore, didn't play nothing 2 weeks now.

mortal mortal put a nice infographic with the release time in different time zones, also there should be a countdown timer in the Xbox app.

Got my physical copy delivered last week already (online retailer does it regularly). But I'm busy with something else at the moment, just a few trophies left for a game on PS5 then I can start Starfield.

But seems like the Todd(lers) get upset when you criticise the game. I don't even use reddit but check the sub on reddit because it's a goldmine. But I look forward to playing Starfield with tempered expectations. I'm sure it will be fun

Game is frequently absolutely stunning.

A rather sensible one, given how many mods PC players have had to employ.

No is was not a sensible question. If the question was, "If you want to play with mods, why would you still play on console?" or something like that. Not everyone likes to play with mods, especially on their first play through.

As someone who can play both on PC and console, I have been playing on my Series X, because I prefer playing on consoles. I have tried and tried to get into PC gaming, but I cannot get past looking at PC as my work environment. Add in frustrations of configuring PC games to work with you your setup, and it just does not appeal to me. I get that others really enjoy it and it is their choice of place to play. That is great for them. It is just not for me.

...goes on to provide detailed answer to said question.

Early quest to do in Mars is to help out the store owner Jane in the residential area. After do her short quest, she will offer you a discount at her store. She sells a lot of great stuff. Or if you are in a pinch for ammo, which you might need because the guns you might love to use likely won’t get a lot of ammo drops.

I have a fairly decent gaming laptop (Ryzen 9 and 3070)that I can easily play it on, but prefer the comfort of my couch (and not having the noise of the laptop fans going). So am wondering how much worse the experience is on Series X.
Then it depends on how much you care about 60 fps and mods.

I shall give it a go. If nothing else, my CX might help with that 30fps a bit.

You will notice that the 30FPS doesn’t feel as bad as it should for whatever reason.. not sure what they’ve dine, could be something to do with motion blur, but they’ve masked it pretty well overall.

It could just be me, but we discussed it in the early access thread and I think it’s real lol

so... how bad is the animation in 3rd person? or is 1st just the way to go?
Animations are good/great. I just can’t get behind combat in third person, using a controller. I’ve heard it plays better in third person with a m/k.

Weird bug with third person is that if you have the camera at the furthest away view, after doing something like talking or accessing something, it changes to the closer over the shoulder view. It’s easy to go back with one press of the camera button, but weird it happens.

Yup. Starfield’s 30 fps might be the smoothest I’ve noticed since Halo 3.

Thanks for the help, still can't figure out how many hours left before we can play it on Game Pass, tried the Xbox app but doesn't show how many hours left, and the link you posted only shows 02:03... and counting..

I have a 12900h and a 3070ti laptop and the experience is not the best but good enough. 40-60 fps outside and 60 inside@1440p with fsr enabled. this game is CPU heavy. Cant wait to get home next week and play on the full fat PC at home.

Sorry, I don’t know why it’s showing only two hrs, probably because we are in a different time zone.

You can play it in 8hrs from now.

The timer in the Xbox app should be in the product page

I have an 11800H/3060 laptop… not a good sign. Although, I’ll be running at 1080p, so… maybe I have a chance?

I guess I might do the two-hour trial on Steam and see how it goes.

Edit: goddamn, this game is $90 and doesn’t unlock until 7PM? Never mind.

You'll be fine @30fps the implementation is ok once you adjust to it. I played a few hours on day one like this.

You are not gonna have nearly the same amount you have on pc.

Also the delay to let xbox people certify everything.

Of course, but something is better than nothing, and hopefully they have a good system in place.

I thought I wasn’t going to get any mods for the gamepass version but so far things are working out.

its not $90 thats the special edition with the DLC. £60 is the going rate, cheaper still on CDkeys.

Edit: unless $90 is £60 in your country of course.

I need a mod for the Series X to keep me from accidentally selling my digipics. It's happened dozens of times now Sell all my crap, realize my stupid mistake, rebuy digipics.

I appreciate the love, guys. Added the Text-only version of the OT as well.

Man, your OT's are truly an inspiration. F'Amazing work mortal mortal

Thanks to you I've learn about animated pngs :messenger_tears_of_joy:
Thank you!

Yes, APNGs are awesome. I'm always on the hunt for better compression methods though. :messenger_winking:

PSA: Theres a handy tips thread going as well, some of the info i would have killed for starting out. Dont sleep on it. spoiler free.

Thanks! I'll be sure to add this to the OP later on. Still have a few edits to make.

This is what I do as well.

Annoys me a bit that it won't save my 3rd person preset as there is two of them.
It is a bit annoying at times. Have to toggle it a bit more than I'd like. I would prefer just eliminating the middle one entirely and only toggling between 1st and far 3rd. The middle one is that up close stuff I usually don't like in more cinematic games.

I’m a couple hours in and loving the vibe. It’s definitely a slow burn after the opening, but this is a world I am going to enjoy living in for a long time.

Just upgraded my PC to include a 4070 and i5-13600k. Game runs buttery smooth on ultra wide 1440p at 60 fps.

Decided to try the free frame gen mod someone posted in one of the starfield threads (thank you, sorry I can't remember your name).

Absolutely game changing, it was so jarring coming into a city and the frame rate basically halving. It just feels consistent now, it's my first time using frame gen from a mod and it is surprising how well it works. I was expecting alot of cons to go with it but there seems very few.

I've never been more split on a game in my life. I put 22 hours in it in just two days and I'm having a ton of fun, but there's also a lot of problems with the game.

Amazing art direction. Weapons, items, ships, interiors, all look fantastic. Then I look at New Atlantis and it legitimately looks like a 360 game.

Zero G combat in a casino full of Spacers with lasers going everywhere and everyone jumping/boosting around and bodies flipping through the air is fucking awesome. Then my companion disappears for half of every mission, nowhere to be seen and no way to direct them at all.

Seeing ships descend onto a misty space port while the system's star rises and illuminates the craggy horizon and it looks so real and beautiful. Then I walk into the nearest building and every NPC has the most immersion shattering line of dialogue possible randomly uttered at me. Does Bethesda know that's not how humans behave? Want to make it feel realistic? Not every utterance from NPCs needs to be directly related to where we are. "Ya know, I wasn't sure about moving out here to the edge of the Settled Systems, but it's really growing on me." Ugh.

Game is so freaking strange. On one hand, it's fun and can look amazing and you can have a string of awesome events occur seemingly organically and it really makes the experience. On the other hand, you have some of the largest oversights conceivable. UI is absurdly clunky. Important information straight up doesn't exist in the game. No maps for major cities is...I don't even know what to say about that. It's fucking bad. Don't even get me started on the encumbrance issue.

The loading screens I can get past. It makes sense for the type of game, but a loading screen to go from outside my ship to inside my ship!? You couldn't make that work? It's just an extra building and a few people!

Still having fun and will continue to play. For how long, I'm not sure. But it really feels like BGS cannot learn or evolve at all. They make the same mistakes over and over and over and they are still afraid to let go of their baby blanket that is the Creation engine. Let it die for the love of God!
