So, all Bloodborne players who haven't played Souls before, how's it going?

I purchased all three Souls games in my "compulsive buyer, doesn't play anything else than WoW" stage. I played a bit of Demon Souls and fared quite well - never touched Dark Souls or DS2 (they're still there in my shelf). Bloodborne is kicking my ass quite a bit. You know the first difficult situation you find? with the 10+ enemies around the town square? Yeah, I've died like 10 times there.

I'm upto the BSB boss, there was a note stating I could summon help. If I summon the NPC which I met earlier in this area to help me will that cost my an Insight point to take on the boss?

Not sure, I would assume it is the same cost as summoning a real player as an offline equivalent.

You can pull them separately though,
before the lot of them there is carriage and some stairs behind that allows you to approach them differently. When you do that they start spreading out.

Run up the elevated path to the right of the fire - only a few will follow you. Then run across the back and down the gap, across to the other side, past the hound and leg it up the steps. You're away.

How is suspend/resume working for people? I've tried it twice, and the first time it worked like a charm, but on the second time there was an OS notification about a problem, and I had to relaunch the game. That's why I'm hesitant about using it again, as I fear it might affect the save file somehow.

Curious, why use it when it saves directly where you left off? Idk I'd be too afraid to mess around with it on this game lol.

I suspect I may have done more grinding than I thought as I dispatched VA and BSB fairly handily last night and I'm frankly not that good so I'm guessing lvl30 is a bit OP. I did come across two handy tips though which I'll spoiler here
VA is vulnerable to fire so use some fire paper to add fire to your weapon, she went into stun mode 2-3 times in the fight for me. BSB is really blood starved, fling a pungent blood cocktail into a corner (disable lock on) and he'll run right over to it letting you get in some hits, again seems like a 2-3 limit on repeating this.
Watch out for the
poison
though I died after the BSB fight because the damn trophy notification obscured my item select!

Loving this game and the way that it rewards careful observation of enemies.

I've played hundreds of hours of souls. And I'm getting my butt kicked and don't know what's really going on.

Haven't warmed up to it just yet, but most of my time playing has been in the character creator, which is much worse than even Demon's Souls.. Like, it's pretty awful.

Just beat Rom :D
Still have no idea what's going on storywise but I'm having fun lol.

Spoilers:
Rom
the Vacuous Spider
Boss Fight: https://youtu.be/tTsmuMlyaCE

Nice. So far, this fight has given me the second most trouble (after cleric beast). Couldn't figure out how to get close to it without getting mopped across the damn floor.

I gave up on making sense of the story as well lol. Really wish I could though as the world and atmosphere are masterfully crafted. Some later areas are genuinely goosebump inducing. I don't need heavy exposition but cmon let me at least know why EVERYthing wants me dead. Hell, I'm not sure I'm even "alive".

Been working great for me, but like the other poster said, I believe you can just exit the game and it will pick up right where you left off, so it's kind of pointless. Just 1 less step to put in sleep mode

Loving it so far, but only played for like an hour since I got it yesterday.

I picked the axe as a starting weapon and struggling to use the correct form against the enemies.. But as I said will be playing more tonight:)

Backstreet Boys...

Seriously though, I am stuck on that bastard and it has put a damper on my desire to keep playing. Gonna level up my vitality a few levels and try again after work tonight. It really sucks running out of Molotovs and Antidotes but I guess that is what farming is for right? I also need to make sure I'm not burning through my Blood Vials so quickly.

Last night Orthogonal hopped into my game and
beat him for me
helped me with him. I did get some hits in but he was all ninja-like dodging his attacks and with him distracted I would go in for charged R2's.

I was stumped at Father G for maybe 3 attempts, then had a strategy on the 4th but failed because I'm rubbish, got him on the 5th.

There is a really easy way to down him, although it requires a long weapon - I used the starting axe in two handed form, so:

From the fog gate just run straight ahead to the very first cluster of gravestones and circle the opposite way to whichever side Father G comes from. You might have to dodge here, but the idea is to get the gravestones between you and Father G. Lock on with R3 and thats basically the steup. You can hit him through the gravestones with a Charge attack and knock him on his bum every time. The gravestones stop his bullets more often than not and when he switches to a two handed axe attack as well his attacks are well telegraphed and there is a large opening after he swings and misses for you to hit him with your own charge attack. If he starts coming round to your side, just go around the other side.

You can take his health right down to the Beast form trigger really easily this way. Once he hits beast form, chuck 2 or 3 molotovs at him for big fire damage. Job done.

Honestly, if I can do it, it will be easy peasy for some of you.

Exactly what I did as well. I called it "Ring Around the Rosie." Bravo, good sir!

Just ring your listening bell and help some people beat the boss for more insight; in addition to blood echos AND blood echo wagerless practice at the boss (you wont lose anything if you fail).

Do you mean I will gain blood echoes from beating the boss, as well as not lose any if I die? Interesting.

Just encountered the guys with the bag for the first time, before they killed me. Then they
kidnapped me to another, scary, place
. This game toys with you.

I've been using it since the game launched... In fact my ps plus ran our on Thursday but I was still able to play online thanks to suspend/resume lol.. Works great.

Only kicked me out due to the patch yesterday.

I'm inexperienced with these types of games. I gave into the hype when Demons Souls first released but I didn't really enjoy. I got to one point where I was stuck and unable to proceed further due to the difficulty. I eventually sold it off, since no matter how hard I tried to like it - I couldn't push myself to overcome the obstacle.

I avoided both Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 for this reason.

Bloodborne has changed my opinion quite drastically. I was in the Beta test and I found it really tough...again. I couldn't even make it to Cleric Beast. Even though that was the case, I still had an interest in the game and I didn't want to spoil so much during the Beta.

My friend bought the game, and because of him - I decided to give it another shot.

I'm so happy that I did since I finally get it. I just defeated the third boss in the game but for me Bloodborne does enough to address the barriers I'd encountered in Demons Souls. While boosting the fun factor, becoming more engrossing, while still being (most importantly) satisfying to play!

Playing in parallel with a friend (which I'm currently doing), sharing your experiences and tips to overcome the challenges together is what makes this game shine. Being able to summon my friend into my world and have him help just makes it that bit more accessible for those who need help being shown the ropes.

In my opinion, this game really deserves the critical acclaim and is already a GOTY contender.

Saw the patch and decided to do item dupe before updating. Used it to gain like 10 levels plus upgrade my weapons until the twin stone requirement and STILL had trouble with BSB. Once I started trying to actually parry and visceral attack then I defeated it. Took like 7 tries.

Exactly how I feel and what happened to me.
Demon souls put me off badly... now I'm pretty sure I will get the PS4 version of dark souls 2 when I'm done with Bloodborne.
Being stuck at work is torture too!

I just beat Vicar Amelia (wich led to a cutscene) and Darkbeast Paarl.
None of those bosses led me to a new area. Where am I suppose to go next?

I reached a large room with some sort of pedestal in the center. When I tried openning the door at the end it was closed and a huge invisible monster killed me. Anything to do there

You can go directly left outside the Church if you haven't, or look around the area outside Church (off from main plaza circle) and you see NPC, just down from there is a door.

I used it purely to jump straight to the game, without the initial loading. I don't think I'll be using it anymore though, just to be on the safe side. Ever since my save file was corrupted in Tomb Raider after the game crashed, I've been fearing it happening again.

That's a pretty interesting loophole.

All you need to do is fight the first boss to unlock leveling, don't have to beat it. But, yeah, getting there can still be a pain. Good luck!

Just keep at it.
I remember when I first played Demons Souls, that first level seemed so daunting, but it's very rewarding when you come back to that area later on and you just demolish everything in sight.

To unlock leveling you need at least one insight. You gain insight once you see a boss or you use a madman's wisdom (if you find one).

hey I posted this in the other thread but it moves too fast at times..who is.
outside the cathedral, who is the lady with dual swords? she defeats you and then says "tell your master I said hi" Is it good to beat her? I had her down to a sliver and then the giant pig ran up on me after we both fell down.... also whats with the giant pig ? LOL

Just made my way through the forbidden forest, that was a massive area. The boss at the end wasn't too bad though, but I am probably over levelled. :p

I assume there's going to be a point where the axe I started with is going to be inadequate?

Not if you keep upgrading it. Of course, using a STR build along with the axe will be a help also.

I am loving this game. I only played a small amount of Dark Souls 1 when I rented it out for a few days and I enjoyed it but not as much as Bloodborne.

Everything about Bloodborne I am loving. Yes it can get frustrating and I do struggle at some parts, but the sense of accomplishment I get when I pass those moments is what I love! I am just at Vicar Amelia now and hopefully she will be toast by tonight!

Didn't really know what to expect from this game. I bought it based solely on GAF hype lol. Anyway, I started last night and thought it was going to be really boring but wow...it's really addicting! >_< anyway, I'm not too far since I spent a good hour trying to get my character to look like Brandon Flowers from The Killers lol. The game is really fun and satisfying but I have to get used to the fact that all enemies respawn when you die lol. Also, I can't seem to do the R1 attack (not sure what it's called) consistently.

This game is amazing. Makes me want to jump into Dark Souls. I'm at the very end of the game,
Moon Boss, after eating three umbilical cords.
I'm pretty positive I've beat every boss in the game. To all the people saying they want to give up, don't. I had that same feeling when Father G kicked my ass. I was convinced I would never make it past him. After the 4th try, I knew his weakness, and he was done.

Got this game last week, and I'm still stuck in the first area... lol

One of my Destiny buddies is playing Bloodborne as his first, and he's having real trouble with the second boss, so my buddy and I rolled alts to help him through it.

It's rougher in the beginning than the Souls series, but I like it. Throws you right in the water and says "swim", you know?

This game is sooo good. Died a couple of times trying to kill bsb and when I finally killed him I screamed and trembled from the adrenaline. Felt so good to put this beast down :D

But I am getting shredded to pieces in the unseen village. Pretty strong kicking mofos.

You really should not be there yet. I'd highly recommend escaping with the lamp and moving on to something else.

Never played a souls game, never really even paid attention to them. Then I kept hearing hype about Bloodborne and figured I'd give it a shot. I half expected to hate it.

I was wrong.

I love it so much. It's exactly the kind of game I was hoping for. It has great atmosphere and demanding gameplay. The game is brutal, but not overly punishing. I feel like I earn everything I do in the game. I also love the co-op. It's great fun, but still requires you to be careful.

Having a blast.

That was the exact strategy I used. By chance, as I hid behind them to use a blood vial for health, and realised I could still get cheap shots in. That charge attack deals the damage heartily, even from behind them.
