Sounds like another quality summer action flick. Not exactly what I want to see from it, but its probably better than the old movies that failed (all but ST2, 4, 6 and 8).

The Search for Spock is a fucking masterpiece compared to Into Darkness

Search for Spock is good up until Kirk sees the destroyed Enterprise. After that it descends into amazing levels of stupidity while Commander Doc Brown tries to go find 1.21 Klingawats on Planet Genesis or something.

Glad to hear they did a nice job closing the trilogy. The first one in 2009 is honestly one of my favorite movies. It hasn't great spirit and visuals. I liked the sequel too.

Damn, such good to great scores so far, can't wait for this movie, I enjoyed the previous 2 and I hope to enjoy this one!!!

I am glad both Ghostbusters and Beyond seem to have turned out to be both great.

In 1984 Star Trek: The Search for Spock (Star Trek 3) and Ghostbusters released within one week of each other.

In 2016 Star Trek: Beyond (Star Trek 3 of a new franchise) and Ghostbusters (First film of a new franchise) are released within one week of each other

The stars are aligned. The prophecy has been renewed.

This is above what I was expecting. Excellent.

Shame about the "extended TV episode" stuff but that's not a game-breaker.

This isn't really what I would call a trilogy. They are open to making more if the box office is there and there isn't any cohesive story between the three films. The closest Star Trek has come to what I would consider a film trilogy is Khan-Search for Spock-Voyage Home as they share a story.

Positive response from this is blowing me away. I was not expecting this at all! Good to hear

I didn't think it wouldn't be an improvement, especially after Into Darkness. It just suffered from awkward marketing, much like Ghostbusters.

It's like movie trailers this past year took the "showing the whole movie" criticism too much to heart and instead are presenting different movies.

I don't think the marketing was bad at all for the film.

I had someone flip out in the cinema during a moment in the trailer. Two characters are teleporting while jumping and grabbing hands to make contact. Person kept saying that isn't possible. I mean...that kind of reaction is beyond reasonable expectations.

LoL! The hate for Into Darkness is absolutely ridiculous. It is a sold trek film. Easily up there with the best.

Anyway, I'm happy this installment turned out good.

Into Darkness was an okay movie, but a godawful Trek movie. It has its moments, but it's terribly flawed for a number of reasons on top of some questionable decisions (Alice Eve in a bikini, whitewashing Khan, etc.)

I've only seen the TOS movies (still need to watch the TOS show after I finish DS9) and they really did nail the actors for each role, that's something that seems to be getting more notice in this film than the last two.

These positive reviews are good to hear. I loved 09 and disliked Into Darkness and this sounds like it leans more towards 09.

I was a big fan of the first two movies, was a bit apprehensive since this one didn't have JJ and the first trailer wasn't great but it seems like everything worked out in the end.

I was pretty optimistic from the start since Simon Pegg's only written stuff I liked. Glad to see he's still killing it!

I enjoyed '09 and absolutely hated STID. Tepidly going to see this, positive reviews don't mean much to me as someone who loves the TNG era but only merely found some of TOS amusing.

Nah, new series starts next year, the Star Trek brand is on the up.

I'm talking about the film series, with this cast/crew. Trek as a brand will never go away, but I feel this might be the end for this film series before a reboot or new crew type of deal happens. It just seems this movie has zero hype, the last movie didn't do that amazing and wasn't received well either. With this just being another adventure of the Enterprise crew and not some major event type of thing, dunno just afraid its not going to do that well.

Abrams has already said its full steam ahead on ST4

It's great to see a positive reception for this. I wasn't sure what to expect although I would have been there day one no matter what the critics had to say. It's Star Trek after all. I just bought my ticket! Oh how I love reserved seating (and recliners).

This is crazy! Very cool. whatyearisit.jpg

The direction they have taken with these films is so weird. I hope the new show is something new and exciting and Beyond does well. I'll be sad if Idris Elba is underutilised as the villain.
