Another Reddit user calculated out how much getting all of this gear would cost and it’s just as expensive as one would imagine. The user calculated that the total cost for everything would be about 143,000 v-bucks. Converting that number into actual US Dollars would equal out to be about $1,070, which definitely seems like a lot of money. However, these items are cosmetic only and do not affect the game in any way, so players do not have to participate in purchasing these items if they do not want to.
You cant buy access to them. What about the weeklys?

Well now you can play it for free. Seems like a good deal. Are you actually saying that I’m concern trolling? I’ve literally played Halo more than any other game in my life.
Yeah, as established in the OP where I said I’m happy it’s F2PWell now you can play it for free. Seems like a good deal.
I put this in the multiplayer thread but think it needs its own thread.
Over $1k to buy everything.
I’m happy with the F2P direction of the game, however 343 need to get some backlash over this.
IMO classic armour sets like Gungnir should be battle pass level 100 awards. They should only be putting new and crazy skins on the store like the ones added to the MCC recently.
2.) Praised the customization of Halo in previous releases
I don't think it's that necessarily.Fortnite in 2018:

I think a large portion of the Halo MP player base comes from Steam on the PC side. There’s no GP on Steam. Then we get this and oh ... lo and behold, MS actually is hoping to make a lot of money on Halo via the standard F2P model with MP, where most people are likely going to play for some time. The Campaign is likely an after thought in comparison. But I know I've been saying for a long time, Game Pass is not going to sustain the development of these massively expensive titles long term, and here we are.
Wait, you're saying that Microsoft wants to earn money for their game?Microsoft didn't make Infinite's multiplayer free because they wanted to acknowledge the fans and give everyone a fun game to play, it's because through research and studies that they believe that they can make even more money this way selling cosmetics.
Could be true. Like I said, I think the move is fine. It makes sense from a business standpoint.I think a large portion of the Halo MP player base comes from Steam on the PC side. There’s no GP on Steam.
Of course, don't be purposefully obtuse about my point. I'm saying that these cosmetic microtransactions are a lot bigger of a deal than just "don't buy it bro". It's like you only read one tiny piece of my post so you could post a regurgitated soundbyte.----(Wait, you're saying that Microsoft wants to earn money for their game?)
They have to make moneyI don't understand, all they had to do was taking what is working in the MCC and bring it to Infinite. How is that complicated??? And they had an extra year ! In which state this would have launched seriously.
I really like the gameplay, but the lack of content/playlist etc... is seriously a bummer. And now this...
“When everybody plays, we all win.”And I still think this goes against the way Phil Spencer has been trying to sell their story. Do you think it doesn't?
Fortnite would cause these people to have an aneurysm
I know! There was a game earlier when a 14 year old on coms says he was so glad it was free because his dad lost his job due to Covid and this was the first new game he’d played in years. I spent the entire rest of the match team killing him and yelling at him that he’s ruining halo!GAF: Why is the gaming industry so shit these days?
Also GAF: LOL DUDE IT'S JUST COSMETICS JUST DON'T BUY IT!
Holding customization hostage is one of the most handwaved things in this board, while it's actually very very predatory and insidious.
Microsoft didn't make Infinite's multiplayer free because they wanted to acknowledge the fans and give everyone a fun game to play, it's because through research and studies that they believe that they can make even more money this way selling cosmetics. And regardless of the state of the game right now, the design will suffer due to this practice.
I love you guys but you often times have a hard time seeing the big picture with stuff like this.
They have to make money
Take a look at every single person who is defending this.
Every last one has done one of, if not all the following, prior to Halo Infinite’s Release:
1.) Deeply criticized terrible use of Microtransactions in F2P games
2.) Praised the customization of Halo in previous releases
3.) Praised the wide variety of content available
Now look at them today. They are decrying both of these as being unimportant. They are actively cheering on having *less* content than before. They are actively dismissing all criticism of content delays and blatant aggressive Skinner box manipulation. You would think that these massive “fans” would want the best game they could get, that has as much content and is as feature rich as previous games were *on launch day*. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case here, so why is that?
They are Console Warriors. They are so entrenched into their little plastic box that they *have* to defend terrible choices and design decisions, bad leadership (in regards to 343i) and terrible time table management (again in regards to 343i) because admitting that there are problems would be like insulting their god. They are physically unable to do it and will insult/decry any who state the obvious.
This game is blatantly unfinished and the devs don’t give one ounce of respect to the player base. They only see them as money bags and will gladly release the lowest of quality releases in years because they *know* these types of folks exist and will suck it all up.

I think the move is not really designed to appeal to console warriors. f2p is about casting as wide a net as possible to get non-fans, or lapsed fans to play it. Considering the state of the IP, it does seem like a smart move for MS in this instance. A lot of people talked about Halo not being relevant anymore, and needing to just be retired, with 343 broken up. A lot of people checked out of the Xbox ecosystem last gen as well. A lot of people maybe played Halo 1-3 and aren't going to spend $60 on Halo without trying it anymore. This seems like a move to spread awareness of the IP again, and get people interested who probably were going to skip it if it wasn't f2p.Take a look at every single person who is defending this.

Because Microsoft likes to talk out of both sides of their mouth.“When everybody plays, we all win.”
I don’t see how a F2P Halo game that people can play on almost any device goes against that.
I know cosmetics is a big part, which is wonderful that the base game is free.
I bought the season pass myself after the first match, because I like the game so much.
But Halo Infinite has the best sort of monetization.
Free entrance, optional cosmetics, a season pass that doesn't expire.
Complaining about a blue white colored skin is first world problems.
i guess that game is called call of duty and battle field.Take a look at every single person who is defending this.

He is a little bit lost there.
All those people coming out of the freezer they have been in since 2007 discovering that F2P games are monetized with microtransactions, gasp!
Halo 5 wasn’t free to play and actually had customizations hidden behind a loot box system, so I don’t even see it as worse than it was before. That’s just how the industry is today and if you single out MS for some reason then I would question your agenda. What was your expectation with the game being free to play?
Wut?

Console warriors exist, but I don't think any of the Halo decisions were really based on them.
Dude, you crying about something you guys caused it long time.Right on queue. It would be hilarious how obvious and easy to guess y'all are if it wasn't so sad.
I am not saying the move is to appeal to console warriors. I am saying that console warriors are the one ones defending these moves. Look at the Waypoint forums. Reddit, Twitter, etc. People are outwardly decrying the lack of content, greedy/predatory practices, and blatant design flaws. They praise what the game does right and still criticize what it gets wrong.
Then you see the folks like the ones above. Trying ever so desperately to defend these moves and dismiss all criticsm, all of whom are massive console warriors on the "Xbox side". As I stated before, it would be hilarious how obvious and easy to guess what they do next if it wasn't so sad.

That is hard hatred for Halo. I guess that explains your words.Outside the fanboys and shills on GAF? Yea, reception has been mostly negative for the MP. Its unfinished, blatantly so. Basic features since the first game are behind paywalls. It has the least amount of content ever in the series. Just look at Twitter and Reddit and you will see that the overwhelming majority
If these guys go to mobile games, they will have a heart attack. The cost of going f2p.
though at least its just cosmetic and not p2w bs like what cod did with the MW remake and infinite warfare.
If these guys go to mobile games, they will have a heart attack.
Dude, you crying about something you guys caused it long time.
Remember that shit dlc armor horse in oblivion. You guys bought it.
We are in this mess, because you guys couldn't control your urge. Its why we have f2p with monetization. Don't act like this isn't your fault too.
And what the fuck that is missing from halo infinite?
Did you even play the MP? The Campaign isn't even out yet, and you here screaming about missing content.
Get your point straight, before you attack console players.
Everyone and their mothers enjoyed the MP. The only issue they had was the battle pass.
Is this you?
That is hard hatred for Halo. I guess that explains your words.
If these guys go to mobile games, they will have a heart attack.
Is this a free post?Remember it's free guys
Its free remember, oh single player is the same price as a full game that would normally have come with the same multiplayer suite, but its free guys. Remember that it being free means none of this matters as the base game is free and you earn great things like the colour blue in 200 hours for free and maybe 5 challange swaps.
Its free guys that means no criticism is allowed as its free and I play it for free, I haven't paid a cent as its free oh apart from the 10$ battle pass and the 20$ armour skin because those look cool but they gave the game away for free so it's nothing.
Its free so why don't people who keep saying it's free post a screen of there a helmet unlocks to show us how free it is so we can see that there's no lock icon on the not free 20$ helm in this tottaly free game, that they keep saying is free.
Stop it guys... its free
