BREAKING: Sony is acquiring Bungie for 3.6b

Agreed. But it wouldn't surprise me if MS did choose to leave CoD $70 on PS and pick around the edges more for exclusive content. "Free" vs. $70 is a compelling advantage alone, plus, once you get past the existing Sony contracts it won't be Xbox missing modes and DLC content. Some of these acquisitions are about protecting content vs. 100% exclusives, IMO. Xbox can never lose CoD now, and should things move in a more streaming focused future, MS's service will have CoD when no others would.

With that said though, Activision is painting a picture that definitely leaves room for exclusives. Especially after Activision responded with a list of specific titles rather than a blanket statement when questioned about the future of CoD.
MS main goal is gamepass. With starfield ES6, I expect call of duty to be exclusive too.

You dont get new gamepass subs, if you share your games. By putting it on PC, you enticing them to join PC gamepass.

MS wants to build a pc store, and make Windows store attractive, along side gamepass pc.

Is almost as if you are willfully ignoring what is written in plain text for all to see.

What part of this are you struggling with?

Q. Bungie has future games in development, will they now become PlayStation exclusives?
No. We want the worlds we are creating to extend to anywhere people play games. We will continue to be self-published, creatively independent, and we will continue to drive one, unified Bungie community.

I like this from Sony, going straight were Microsoft are too scared to.

Buying someone to complete their own portfolio, not to remove it from somewhere else.

Nothing in that statement confirms they'll put the games on Xbox. Just implies they have the power to do so if they wish

Somehow I reckon they might decide in PS5 + PC for future releases.

Maybe Xbox if they all play nice with eachother

4 games that wont be exclusive from a developer that is a shell of its former self...whoop de fucking do sony is saved
Are you a child? Are Sony doomed again that they badly need saving?
As Sony own Bungie we'll find out exactly what will be exclusive or not. Bungie will develop a fps for Sony for sure. Multiplatform could easily mean PS and PC.

Maybe this can finally mean that were getting new Trials and Iron Banner weapons instead of reprised weapons with a good financial backer like Sony?? Maybe new PVP maps too???

Seriously though, it interesting that Bungie agreed to do this again after how it hard it was for them free themselves from Microsoft. I guess there was something in the agreement that mentions a level of independency under Sony?

I think Bungie was already toying with the idea of expanding the Destiny universe outside of just games, maybe this will accelerate that further given that were seeing things like the Uncharted movie. A Destiny TV series maybe?

I remember a handsome tall guy, who said the same thinng.

New IPs would be exclusive. Existence IPs would be multiplatform. Meaning destiny 2 is multiplatform. But not destiny 3. That would be Sony exclusive, like Starfield, ES6.
If you mean Phil Spencer, MS said when acquiring Mojang, Zenimax and ABK that they were going to keep supporting the IPs that were on the other consoles there, that they didn't want to keep games away.

As of now, after acquisition all the Mojang, Zenimax and ABK IPs that were on PS got all their updates, dlcs and new games released on PS, none of them has been Xbox console exclusive.

Jimbo and Bungie have been clear too: they said Bungine will continue as an independent multiplatform publisher under SIE, that their future games and new IPs released after Destiny 2 will be also released on non-Sony consoles.

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.

There is a culture difference between Sony and MS related to their Studios. Sony allow their studios to do what they want… they are independent.

Bungie will not be different from any other PS Studio… they will be independent to give birth to they own visions.

Call me biased but I don't see the incredible unique talent worth that sum nor do I see more than a single IP worth mentioning.

The only IP they own is Marathon, Destiny and the one that's in development. MS owns Halo while Take Two owns Oni and Myth.

MS puts everything on Steam, so, they aren't forcing their store there. Zenimax was structured in much the same way as traditional first-party studios, both in terms of release schedule and head count. Activision is a different animal, it absolutely could go the same way, but could go the other too. You drive GP with value, CoD would still pull some Sony players to GP based on the value alone (with extras like early access and exclusive DLC pitching in as well).

I'll just wait for the first post 2023 release to see how that one turns out.

No. It was a mutual split between Bungie and Microsoft. Bungie didnt want to make Halo anymore, and Microsoft agreed to part ways as long as they got the Halo license. Bungie agreed.
wtf this shit is confusing so Sony don't own Destiny IP so that means MS down own any of the Bethesda IP wtf make no sense

If MS dictated what their studios made, Rare never would've produced their most successful game ever and if Sony gave their studios total freedom, then Bend would be making Days Gone 2 right now.

They do own the licenses because the studios own the licenses, and then they are bought by Microsoft or Sony, so now Microsft or Sony own the licenses because they now own those studios. If they split though for some reason, there has to be some kind of deal made for Microsoft or Sony to keep those licenses.
Of course when a studio is bought, stipulations could be put in place for the buyer to get those licenses regardless, but most of the time the studio themselves will technically own the license.

Thats why Bungie still own Destiny and not Activision.

These studios barely just convinced Sony to let them release the games on PC.

Can you imagine Sony just letting Bungies next game arrive on Xbox day and date with all the trimmings? I just don't see it.
Not with all the trimmings such as marketing, discounts, exclusive skins etc, but yeah I expect both COD and next Bungie game to be multiplatform for the remainder of the generation.

Neither service platform is mature enough to command exclusivity imo. They are going through building phase and subsequent show and prove phase for the remainder of the generation.

Microsoft has never earned any profit from Xbox hardware sales

I can see them trying to get the GamePass app on as many platforms as possible.

Your actually wrong on this. Bend management didn't want a Days Gone 2.

Sonys higher ups didn't shoot it down.

The director and writers of Days gone wanted to make a second game. The studio heads did not.

It was an internal decision as Jeff Ross said.

Funniest post I've seen all day. One hell of a spin on how they say they're independent, while completely spitting in the face of tons of devs like those at Sony Bend who pitched Days Gone 2 and got made to work as a Naughty Dog support studio for a year instead.

Yea and I'm sure it was an internal studio decision to make a game based on a dead Sony movies IP.

Every PS Studio is like that.
Weird or funny are you guys being “surprised” about that lol

BTW being independent doesn’t means you don’t have to devolverá good results… you are free do to what you want but you need to show results.

hardware's were never profitable in the first place. MS learned that, and decided to focus on PC at the same time, as their console release.
Gamepass makes it full circle.

That's Bungie:

While independent: "we value being an independent studio"

While bought out or partnership: "nothing to PR here as we'll shut our mouths for the next 5 years"

Released into independency: "Hey VP of PR, hurry up and send one of your tweets about being an independent studio is awesome for gamers"
That is power of money.....everyone have price but I can bet in my life that Sony didn't bought Bungei for carent Destiny IP, it is about some next IP from Bungei. Tbh 3.6Billion is overpriced for only Desteny IP.

Activision never purchased Bungie, they just had a publishing agreement with them. That's completely different from my understanding.
Ah well the point still stands. The studios themselves usually own their game licenses, even when they are bought. Unless stipulations have been made otherwise.

Yea and I'm sure it was an internal studio decision to make a game based on a dead Sony movies IP.

Well if you don't believe Jeff Ross who wanted Days Gone 2 then I can't help you.

He literally said it was the studio heads.

Keep the conspiracy going by all means.

None of the major players earn that much from hardware, even Nintendo's margins are low all things considered.

The console business is a software game, you give away the hardware (the razor) to sell the games (blades). People incorrectly assume that MS has never turned a profit on Xbox in total (which is impossible with the software sales they had going in the last few years of the 360 gen), that isn't something that MS has ever stated. They don't make money on the hardware alone.

If we count all the development studios Sony purchased in the last year, that's basically a whole publisher.

I've been saying for years that this is all a publisher is, a collection of studios with centralized leadership.

Bluepoint
Nixxes
Firesprite
Housemarque
Valklyrie Entertainment
Bungie

Might be forgetting something.
they can tackle just the mp...i would love it!!

That would represent a step down for who bungie are. They can support Playstation studios when they feel like, but they want to make their own big titles.

I really don't. I don't see new CODs except warzone on Playstation after the current contracts expire or any other I.Ps that are not well into development for that matter. Nor do I see Bungies next game or anything else from Sony hitting xbox either.

We will see in the future
