She hulk trailer

Anyone else find it a little odd that all the reviews seem to be on only 4 episodes Disney let reviewers watch? I believe it’s 9 episodes in total. I wasn’t sure if this was just a TV review thing, so checked out Sandman and League is their Own reviews and they seemed to be done on the full season. Not sure how one can fairly critique a season without seeing how it’s plot develops and concludes.
Marvel usually only gives the first few episodes otherwise Variety will Tweet out all the spoilers.

Netflix released Sandman as a whole season, same with Amazon and A League of Their Own.
Disney always do weekly releases and reviewers always only get the first 3-4 episodes upfront.

Thought it was okay and I will continue watching it. Some of the jokes landed, some of them fell flat. My main complaint is the same one with anything involving the Hulk for a few years now. Marvel Studios really nerfed him.

“I think that there’s a cultural obsession with the certain physique that goes along with these movies sometimes,” Maslany tells ET. “I certainly fell prey to that idea, and I definitely don’t think it’s a thing that we should be pursuing ‘cause it’s just these weird standards that none of us can actually keep up with unless we’re going to the gym 1,000 times a week.”

“What I love about She-Hulk is that she represents a different body and a different perception from the outside,” she adds. “How people see her is so much a part of her story… That to me is really exciting conversation that can happen around this, which is: How do we look at someone differently depending on the body that they inhabit?”

Such an odd angle to take when EVERY male superhero, except maybe that chubby kid from Deadpool 2 and Dr. Strange's buddy, are SHREDDED. Those male actors put in the damn work. Granted, it's PEDs and probably not a super healthy long term process to do it over and over but still....they do the work. Even Fattfleck was such an oddity.

Then these ladies come along and complain that a little bulemia is a big deal* :p And kinda takes the wind out of all the gushing about Natalie Portman bulking up for Thor:L+T

And Maslany looked like this at the premier, not sure what body type she is campaigning against? She looks healthy and fit. Not even packing 6 months of chicken breasts and broccoli or anything harsh like that. The trailers show a pretty sleek she-hulk, it's not like she porks out in rage or anything. Maybe I'm missing her point?

oxMeKTF.jpg

*I know bulemia is serious
The point is that she is an idiot.

The 1000 times a day at the gym thing was a dead giveaway.

This people encouraging laziness while looking like they train regularly is never gonna be not funny.

She-hulk body is such a different body type that any straigh man would try to fit even his testicles inside her if possible...

This first ep was pretty good. Moves at a brisk pace, has some solid jokes and lines, and fits the tone of she hulk very well

I thought she looked pretty good in the final product. I'm sure you can slow the show down to frames and catch some wierd stuff but it was solid. I'm wanting more which is a good thing

As an aside I only watched one trailer, the first one, and I knew what this characters whole thing was before the show even was announced, she is a comedic deadpool esque type and usually relatively low stakes. Also ignored all the culture war nonsense leading up to it by people who thought this was a new thing

I really loved the first episode, love Jen and Bruce's relationship and interaction together. Lots of fun and it moves at a brisk pace.

I do want to know what is up with the spaceship and hope we see more Bruce.

Yeah I didn't find it cringe at all

It was surprisingly good

All I know is I want to watch more

Is 'That Pure Potato'
Solid 3.5/5 - B+

+ I like how they didn't mess around and stretch the origin story out over several episodes like they did with Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel. One and done. Nice and sweet.

+ The mix of first and third person narration felt refreshing for a Marvel TV show.

+ Good Marvel humor that I don't think we've seen since the end of the last phase. It's funny without reaching or trying too hard.

+ Maslany is a great lead. No complaints with her performance. She made me like a character that I have never read a single page of from the comics.

+ Ruffalo was as charismatic as ever.

- CGI was still a bit dodgy but after reading about how Marvel leans on their contractors I am good with it. Pay your people more and give them more time if you want a better product, Marvel. Or better yet use your billions in revenue and make your own well-paid staff like George Lucas did. Don't be the Amazon Warehouses of CGI.

- The conclusion could have used something more. It kept steady with the brisk pace, but it wouldn't have hurt to show a one or two or three minute long transitional scene between the island and the courtroom

Good times, I am looking forward to the next episode.

I liked it, more than I expected. The jokes were good and the pace was swift.
Maslany is very, very likeable so far. Jennifer Walters is very much her own, very colorful. I like seeing her on the screen.

It was fine. Tatiana is charismatic, cg was okay. MCU typical it is another fine product you forget till the next episode comes out and then completely forget once the show is done until those characters come back in a season 2 or movies.

Also did Cap bang one of his backup dancers on the tour? If so he fucked up, should have fooled around with her when he got the chance.

Relaxed Natalie Dormer GIF

I have no interest in She-Hulk and don't know why I checked this last page, but I'm happy that I did because of this gif...made my day.

Loved how the adapted the origin. The literal comic origin would be hard to logically sell in the MCU and current day. What doctor would give someone a blood transfusion from Bruce Banner?

The Sakaarian Courier Ship was obviously setting up World War Hulk. Likely coming to tell Bruce he has a son back on Sakaar.

That credit scene was hilarious.

Just watched it .. very good episode. I felt "meh" at times when Jennifer was being a jerk to Bruce but you could tell she loves him and they have good chemistry.

People bashing it to pieces before release saying that it would be feminist propaganda, then suddenly it releases and first impressions are ... pretty good.

All that drama, for absolutely nothing

GAF and RE work like clockwork. Sometimes you just want to see some opinions judging a series/movie for what it really is, not political bulshit. It gets so tiresome sometimes.

I'm curious to watch it today. Looks fun enough. Tired of Marcel quips, but jokes seems solid from what Ive seen.

I'll give this a shot since I like Hulk.

I just hope we don't see too much of Ruffalo as Hulk, I don't really consider him the Hulk anymore. I can't even remember the last time he was the real angry Hulk, he's a comic relief character now like Thor has become.

That origin is rooted in the time period when relative to relative transfusions were pretty common to limit the risk of hepatitis/syphilis/etc. You could make it work today pretty easily with a little effort but if it got out that Banner Blood makes you a relatively easy-going Hulk I'd imagine it would be exploited PDQ.

You may as well not watch it then, or change your expectations about Ruffalo being Hulk.

Or want Hulk to come back to who he really is. The chaos of the human spirit.
I'm waiting for Hulk to be reborn as a true 2020's (anti?)hero.

As Banner he is a true ally, demure around women, they/them pronouns, hardcore vegan concerned about the environment and social justice.

As Hulk he has a mullet under his MAGA hat, his beer gut can smash a bus, and he can't help but use Alex Jones quotes all out of context.

Really pull on those extremes. Only in the middle of a transformation can he realize how absurd he is and wish to be a normal person. :p

That grift becomes more transparent by the day when all about they talk about is their made up bullshit.

Not bad at all. All feels pretty inconsequential, but entertaining, with some good laughs. She’s a spot on bit of casting.

Only real issue is that they’re dropping the ball on She Hulk’s character a bit with her just breezing through her transformation with ease. They’d better be introducing some flaws in the next couple of episodes, or that good old Mary Sue argument will come back out again.

The only problem with that is it gets boring as a whole. We had the Ang Lee Hulk where the military attacked him and then we had the MCU movie where the military attacked him and I've personally read 121 issues of Hulk just Hulking out uncontrollably.

I agree that Bruce/Hulk isn't in the best position as a character yet in the MCU but the She-Hulk gives me hope that they'll head in the right direction. I'm hoping controlled rage in the future, not uncontrolled rage.

I have a hard time seeing marvel going to "uncontrolled rage" because narratively that means serious damage and an unforgivable mistake. Even in his own worst moments the Hulk just does trivial stuff or beats up the bad guys. Will they let she-hulk rage out and permanently maim a friend or a child? Something that would scar her emotionally and lead to along road to redemption?

I doubt it. I don't think even the Bixby Hulk went there, not on screen at least.

Boring? what about Spider-Man, Superman and Batman rethreading the same old stories over and over and over and over.

The Hulk and his various psychological manifestations are one of the most interesting superhero tales in how it relates to everyone, and it's not even touched upon in the movies.

Please read my post again, I stated that uncontrolled rage Hulk being chased by the military is boring and I'm glad we moved past that. I'm more than happy for the MCU to explore Hulk in other forms and to explore his psychological trauma over the years.

Enjoyed the first episode. Love the main actress having never seen her in anything before.
It was a tad bit too snarky and the villain at the end looked absolutely ridiculous, but I'll keep watching.

Also, odd post-credit reference to Captain America...........

Agreed.

imho to compete with Netflix and Amazon, you need to hit the same format. As soon as I see some weekly shit....time to wait and find it.....(else where) lol

That being said, I don't know if I care enough about Hulk series to watch this. I first thought that shit was a meme, like a joke and then i turned on the PS4 and saw it on that media page and busted out laughing. My ass thought it was some fake thing someone made a picture of to make fun of it or something. So I don't know enough about it to say good or bad or if it makes sense as I do recall she is a lawyer or some legal person that helps the team out.

You think a giant green monster fighting the military and himself is more boring than the current teenage anti-humor cringe form of Hulk? gtfo

well.... in the context of comic stuff, its not really that interesting. I mean you are trying to make it sound like in general if its interesting, but I don't think Sol is saying the idea of that isn't fascinating. In the world of comics, it does sound kinda stale lol

Radiation gave someone powers, oh look they have to fight the government trying to cover it up. So you may not like the whole "teenage" cringe thing, but I'm sure all that with Hulk is different enough that someone can like it to break up the same ole same ole with that IP.

Keep in mind I'm sure they are probably going to do some other Hulk show anyway.

Nah, Amazon does weekly releases for their more high profile shows. In fact, the shows that are released as a full season on Amazon I have less faith in trying out. They dropped all of Paper Girls as a whole season and I couldn't finish the show, very average compared to the comic and not enough budget at all.

Not sure why you would think She-Hulk is a joke, it's a character that has been around since the 70's.

Yes it is, like I said, I read over 100 issues based around that concept. Not every issue was about the military but they were all about him being enraged and beating the shit out of whatever villain was in that issue. Some of the more interesting issues (from the 60's/70's) are between #140 and #156 where Hulk gets shrunk down to microscopic levels, can actually think/talk properly and meets Jarella who he falls in love with. Also when the Defenders comic takes off in 1972 Hulk starts to become a bit more than just a rage monster and starts to trust people.

Oh really? I didn't know that, its likely all the shows I watched simply didn't have that weekly release setup and I merely assumed most of their content was like that.

Well, I thought how it was marketed was some meme or something, not that She-Hulk is a joke.

So when I see this,

p21164861_b_h8_ab.jpg

I'm thinking someone is trolling or doing it to make fun of them or something.

So....its real clearly, but someone also could have made something like this and been like "its woke everyone" as a joke and made it in a different context or something. So with how much people troll and attack Disney, its hard to know what is legit them marketing something sometimes or someone making some image to be like "ooooh my look how woke they are" or something.

I'm not saying I support it, I'm saying it exist and I thought thats what it was lol. I don't think She Hulk is a joke, I merely thought the image I saw online someone was posting was some meme to attack disney or something.

I'm struggling to see how a green lawyer chick in heels is woke. She is a chick. She is green. She does wear heels as her normal persona, but so far she's just been barefoot the whole time either as herself or as a Hulk. Is this like a Juri from SF thing? Step on me mommy thing?

I never claim to get or understand how they've come to those conclusions btw lol I've seen legit anything claimed as "woke". Person of color dies in game "woke, smhz cause look at them trying to make them a victim" /s

Person of color lives in game "woooooow no one could live from that, but of course its woke, they have to keep the agenda and person of color can't die to appease" /s

lol I've literally heard both arguments before and it strange, weird and hilarious.

Hulk is not about radiation, Hulk is jeckel and hyde, it's the battle against the dragon, it's nietzsche. It's just the marvel writers are too weak to make anything interesting so they make cringe hulk to appeal to the lowest denominator.

That's not interesting. That's ridiculous.

I mean...that is still far more original then guy turned radioactive, fight government.

Be like "hulk mad, hulk tax....too high, gov...infringe, tax...THEIFT" lol

So...hear me out man, like the concept of the Hulk better then She-Hulk, but I must give this view how I see it without some personal bias. The concept of Hulk I might personally love, but I concede that its not some deep idea, its kinda bland, played out and sorta boring and I 100% get why many might not like it, what I personally like, I try my best to remain objective when seeing stuff like this.

I get why Sol likes this, I get why many might like this over the normal Hulk concept. The Hulk simply isn't some really massively deep concept with layers, guy got powers, gets mad, government bad.. there is a lot of shit going on with She-Hulk that is more interesting, even if I personally don't have plans to watch it or something. A guy getting powers and fighting the government isn't this rare idea lol

edit. btw you can call it what ever the fuck you want, he got powers and fights the government.

I mean that image IS funny considering the fact that she literally ditches her shoes when she's about to Hulk out in the show. Tarantino Approved! Tatiana Maslany feet shots ahoy....oh shit her Wikifeet got super updated as hell thanks to this!

Comics are ridiculous and the more the movies embrace that ridiculousness the better.
Nah, comics and movies work completely differently. The reason those comics became popular is because of the connections to reality, the "one amongst us". Just look at something like Conan, or 40K, they find new stories to tell without playing to the soccer moms.
