Gran Turismo 7 Director Confirms 25th Anniversary Update

IbizaPocholo

NeoGAFs Kent Brockman

Similar to Gran Turismo's previous ways to tease the fans, Yamauchi posted an image that shows three disguised cars, which have already been identified by the veterans of the series. Although it is still difficult to figure out the exact models, the cars are believed to be a Sierra RS Cosworth, Silvia K's (S14), and BMW M2 Competition. Yet the discussions among the fans continue as they try to pin down the car models under the creator's tweet, which does not reveal much about the anniversary update.

Add a proper Gran Turismo mode and I will dust off my copy of the game.

I discovered Gyro driving with GT7. Imho, Gyro driving >> Stick driving, it's really a great gameplay feeling.
And the haptic feedback gives constant information about the road, the wheels, the gears, etc.
This is the first time when gyro driving really felt good in a racing game for me (as you say accurate and strong haptic feedback and the good local speaker helps a lot).

That's your opinion, but still it's an additional feature that hasn't replaced anything from previous games, so how about you detail exactly what you miss from GT4 that isn't in GT7?

I guess selling isn't there yet, but you got to be really special to not play it just because you cannot sell a car.

This video explains my problem with the campaign pretty well (starts at 3:53, time stamped):

There has never been what I would call a campaign, just a collection of races until gt7, now you are forced to do some pretty rudimentary steps to unlock content, most are pretty fun. I'm not sure what you or the other guys problem is, but each to their own.

Cool, I gave up on the game a week after launch and realizing I was having zero fun with it, wonder if they added any new modes or things to make the game more fun.

Same here too. Loved the game for as long as it took me to finish the campaign mode then realised there wasn't much else to keep me playing and so stopped. I have no interest in online gaming or going for Gold or whatever in all the licence tests just isn't my idea of fun (sorry!).

Compared with the Forza series on Xbox, the campaign mode was way too short even if it was somewhat bizarre (very Japanese in that sense, I guess). It's a real shame because the core gameplay was solid and visually the game looks stunning, arguably better than Forza Horizon 5 or Forza Motorsport 7 on Xbox. There just wasn't enough to do in the game and it seems like the developers made the game around the online modes first and the campaign came second.

I really feel like Polyphony Digital phoned it in on GT7.

It's probably time for Kazunori to retire which is ironic because he is relatively young. Can't believe he is only 55. He's been doing this since he was 30 but I just feel like the industry has passed him by.

How is this game since launch? Did they make is more efficient to unlock the cars that you want?

And does it look and feel like an actual PS5 game?

I hope they'll add the actual game I've been waiting for since GT6.

More cars and tracks are great and all. But we need more events, too many cars are just wasted. I can't believe they haven't added any more missions either.

One the biggest crime in the single player is those extra menus. They should be getting shit for the lazyness of those events.

I still play this almost daily. Most played game this year with over 260 driving hours and over 200 million credits easily earned. Thoroughly enjoy the driving loop.

But my goodness, enough with all the damned Silvias. Still waiting on the C8s which have been out for almost 3 years now, voted Japan's number one sports car (yes, an American car won), and used in the Gr GT races.

You had that Nissan Z (disappointment IRL) before the car even came out.

I mean, it's part of that gt charm ya feel me

countless japanese duplicates with minor differences. The next S14 is a little madder, angrier than that round one we got a while back

How far did you get in the game? I finished the last race that gets the end credits yesterday and was completely sucked in for 150hrs over a few months. I've played GTs before and enjoyed them, but never went over a month playing, even the PSP version on my Vita.

I thought the game got really fun when modding opened up, like adding a tail wing and maxing downforces to make the Toyko express way easy-ish.
The 12 lap Daytona in-field race in a modified Ford GT where they set tyre wear to something ridiculous forcing a pit strategy felt fun, Still needing to disable Traction control on long straights to eek out another 10mph of top speed only for it to burn through the tyres even faster and spin me off into walls was a pretty fun challengel especially balancing all the moddifications.

If you go back to it, I'd thoroughly recommend a Mitsubishi GTO as a good car to add a fin and fully mod for 600 and 700 PP challenges, with traction control set to 3 or 2. With decent use of handbrake that 4WD is an excellent all-rounder to make light work of normally tricky challenges and really fun to drive Starsky and Hutch style IMO,

I hate that the game is a service game but have loved playing it and still feel the need to get gold for the final cup and tackle lots of the Circuit experiences. The Genesis X Gr3 Watkins Glen circuit experience was great IMO, so much instant power, so much grip and yet still fighting like crazy to hold the road to get those gold times., pure simulation gaming at its best for me,

Ok to get it out of the way, everyone complaining, the only thing I can understand is the forced always-online, without which the game is unplayable. The rest, I really don't know if people played this game at all or are jumping on the bandwagon of hate because of GTS and no single player at that time. GT7 has a hefty single player mode, you have all features from previous GTs like tuning parts, changing oil, washing cars, buying used cars and now buying legendary cars. You can't complete certain goals until some of those cars go on sale because they are not under the regular Brand Central, making you login every week to check if its finally available so you can complete your collection. Single player is progressive so you actually work towards something versus just randomly enter a race with one car and finish the game like that. Licenses are challenging, besides the MENUs for progression you have a ton of side races, similar to those endurance races.

I can totally understand if GT is not your cup of choice over another game but I keep reading how "im waiting for a real GT with single player". Did you even play GT7? Someone mentioned Forza Horizon....in that game you don't even have to win to progress. You literally mow through fences, not even stay on track, you lose and you still get to progress forward. Also GT7 looks so damn good. Again, I feel like most are still stuck on GTS...GT7 is a single player experience through and through. Theres some parts Im not a fan of as far as the game goes but compared to previous installments, its on par with them. GT4 is still the pinnacle for me. GT7 is a way better and complete game than GT5 and 6 combined. GT5 being the worst in the series.

I agree with all that. PLayed GT5 and GT6 til death. I loved them but they both were way to inconsistent with Standard cars and Tracks making the game uglier.

GT7 at least on PS5 is a premium ting. And the last patch, 1.25, severely improved the cockpit center shadows, and the overall IQ, making one of my big nitpicks go away (shadows).

This game, end of it's life cycle, will be a banger.

We shouldn’t have to wait until the “end of its life cycle” to get a banger game. That is poor design and terrible treatment of fans/consumers. It should be a banger of a game *on release*.

The game has been a banger since the start. What’s missing? After 160 hours, it’s one my favourite racers ever. It’s always such a pleasure to drive those cars on a 60 minute event you create with dynamic weather and day/night cycles. It looks spectacular at native 4K/60 fps. I really can’t think of what’s missing. But opinions are just that.

And I am truly glad that you and others can find things to love in this game. I want to love it, I really do - but there are certain things in it that just feel… half assed? From the always online requirements, the constantly shifting pricing structure, the lack of ability to sell your cars, the anemic menu system that really needs far more content than it provides (even though I do love the concept), the lack of unique race events, the lack of unique cars (though as has been stated, they have been routinely adding more and more - but I feel like that should have been a thing at launch, not waiting months to get them), more unique tracks - The game is *good*, don’t get me wrong. However it still feels like missed potential and between the always online and MTX, it feels incredibly greedy.

For me, the last truly amazing GT game was GT4. 5 and 6 were disappointing and 7, while being the best since 4, still has yet to capture that same love and design philosophy it had.

My new favourite thing is creating a custom race with gr1 cars on the nurb. And then watching replay with the over the shoulder cockpit view. PD absolutley nailed the replays, really exhilarating to watch especially on a narrow track.
