Rumor - Sony intends to acquire CD Projekt Red and Days Gone 2 in development

Huh, "console warrior" is most definetly something that doesn't apply to me. As for bringing MS to the equation, it's because this rumoured aquisition has ALL TO DO with strategic competition with MS in the WRPG front. Surely you get that, right?
I was just being cheeky with my first comment and No, not every acquisition has anything to do with MS. Sony isn't buying anyone for 70 billion. Regarding this rumored acquisition that you are talking about I honestly don't care. MS can buy all the WRPG studios.

All good, mate.

CDPR given the right time and resources?

Wasn't Cyberpunk 2077 in development for like 9 years and like $300 million in budget and still released broken and without implementing all of the announced features?

Didn’t Days Gone dev said it is not?

As for CDPR it make sense as they can rebrand GOG and sell the 1st party stuff there exclusively.

Bend Studios director said in a livestream with Jaffe that Days Gone 2 was already in production before they leave the company. Sony shutdown DG2 and send Bend Studios to support ND to dev TLOUS remake.

I'd be shocked if it limited them from any small-mid size acquisitions, the only thing it'd likely limit Microsoft from doing it buying another big publisher. Considering the comical amount of studios Microsoft will have if/when they finish the Activision acquisition, and the fact they seem intent on growing all of their studios as well, they really just need to focus more on quality control as opposed to buying more studios. If they're able to fix whatever issue is happening with their current first party they would be able to more than match anything Sony threw at them, but that's currently a big if

Since they announced their intent to acquire Activision, they haven't made any other acquisition and its been a while since it was first made public. Can't say for sure but seems like they can't make other acquisitions while they already have one being investigated.

"Leakers" never know about these acquisitions. If any news about them leak, it's from places like Bloomberg, not these clout chasing parasites

Why is the days gone director complaining if the game is in development. Unless they have changed the director which may not be the best idea.
Also CDPR is worth 3 billion which would make it quite an expensive purchase.

Days Gone director left Sony in 2019

"<sony> should do things the right way and not just buy IPs"
"<sony> obviously can't manage their own studios so they have to go out and buy them"
"<sony> just throwing their money around, it's bs"

what else did I miss?

Didn't this Liz person leak Cayde 6 returning in Final Shape months ago? Maybe they have an Insider at Bungie idk

They do, now why that same source would know about an acquisition is beyond me...
What is also curious is that Poland is the country that Sony chose to test out their Netflix competitor.

Cdpr is technically a great buy for Sony but it would kill GOG I think.

Good old acquisitions. 🤔

This is probably BS, but I do feel Sony has yet to really reveal how aggressive it's willing to be to play hard in the acquisition space.

I have every expectation they'll acquire a Square/CDPR/Capcom in the next 18 months.

You know this could actually be possible as there were rumours a few months ago that CDPR wasnt doing as great as people think despite the success of Cyberpunk (financial success). There were also heavy rumours that GOG wasnt doing great too, whihc is why there was talk of them switching strategy and not selling big AAA games at launch.

To be honest, i dont really care if this is true or not, as long as the games still come to PC.

I have the impression that Sony was on the right path by building up their own studios instead of jumping into this acquisition bandwagon. Nintendo has mostly been following this strategy and it has worked for them. Now I feel that they have lost focus and are just throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks.

We've been told officially in no uncertain terms that Bend is working on new IP. Man who wrote entire script to Days Gone by himself left the studio. And yet we entertain this bullshit rumour.

Imagine the disaster if only pathetic console versions of CDPR games exist. Dx
Well i dont know why Sony would do that when CDPR is a PC centric developer, and Sony themselves have started releasing their games on PC anyway.

Plus it would probably be a similar situation to Bungie, and eveything stays the same, just with Sony getting the profits.

Yeah I'm always cautious when people claim to know about acquisitions but this could possibly have some merit

Our own super reliable Mr Insider here also said Sony been trying to acquire CD Projekt. I won't name him you either know or don't from being a member here.

But I am assuming that is two separate, reliable sources so this wouldn't surprise me at this point.

not a fan of it but given Larian and CD Projekt seem to be the only WRPG studios not owned by Microsoft at this point (aside from Bioware who are owned by EA) it kinda makes sense Sony would look to shore up regarding that

could see Sony handling them like Bungie

There was that rumor about CdProject and Days Gone last year.
The rumours I heard is CDPR wanted to make use of the Days Gone IP. I hope it's a partnership on making a sequel, not an acquisition.

Obviously, both can be true.

Sony does need a pc store though at some point. It's money on the table for them if they're planning on releasing pc games at least.
Just think about the fact that if Sony puts a 70-dollar game on PC and they give Valve at least 20 percent of the game's revenue... that's at least 14 dollars... (until the game sells a certain amount it's a higher percentage, but let's go with 20 for the sake of this).

Sony could sell the same game on their own platform for 60 and make more from it than selling it on Steam.

When they make a deal for exclusivity, they could make the deal apply to PC as well for pennies on the dollar to promote their PC Storefront.

Sell Days Gone IP and buy CDPR to get it back 😂

CDPR would be a good fit for them for the type of games they make but given that their relationship hasn't always been perfect or close I doubt it although it's also true that even Bungie wasn't exactly close to Sony but since they were the best candidate for the specific purpose Sony was looking for it didn't matter.
The Days Gone 2 rumor is even less credible.
The pitch was refused by Sony because the original didn't have the expected success and Bend is making a new IP.
Why the change of idea? Seems illogical and who should be developing it?

I know some people will hate this but if Sony bought anyone I would want to be square-enix. Sony pays for exclusives anyways and have their games fragmented on other platforms just sucks. Give square one platform to focus on.

Yes I would definitely hate this since I prefer many of their smaller budget AA games like Triangle Strategy on a portable system.

Plus, I don't see how Sony benefits from this really. They can spend far less money merely getting significant timed exclusive deals on Square big AAA games like FF already anyway.

Sony is picky with their content reception.
They want top quality games to be associated with their brand. It's why they didn't greenlight the game early.

"Top Quality Games to be Associated with their Brand"
"Laughs in GaaS"

Time they ruin their portfolio and brand following a trend innit.
