Rumor - Sony intends to acquire CD Projekt Red and Days Gone 2 in development

Nope nope nope nope nope not listening to anymore of these insiders nope nope nope.

Sony does need a pc store though at some point. It's money on the table for them if they're planning on releasing pc games at least.

Then why not just buy GOG from CDPR? The storefront isn't even that profitable for CDPR anymore, if Sony just want the infrastructure they can buy it without needing to buy CDPR altogether.

Why do they even need CDPR honestly? They have two relevant IP to their name but if Sony want more WRPGs they have teams who could do that for them. What they really need are more Japanese/Asian developers under their wing, not Western ones.

The rumours I heard is CDPR wanted to make use of the Days Gone IP. I hope it's a partnership on making a sequel, not an acquisition.

This would make a lot more sense and be magnitudes more cost-effective.

Highly doubt this. CDPR had said a couple years ago that they have no interest in being bought. That they weren't even interested in a strategic partnership. That they had gone to lengths to ensure there could be no hostile takeover.

Now, things can always change. Situations shift. And, yes, there are reasons why Sony would want them. But I'm not feelin this one.

It seems the source of this leak links back to this guy

And he's been saying the same rumour since 2021 according to other forums.

Oh sweet merciful crap. This guy? People! People please! This is the same guy that said Insomniac was going to release 5 games by the end of the year!

Larian would be a better buy me thinks. The Divinity games are great, and the new Baldur's Gate looks fantastic. Probably a hell of a lot cheaper too.

I don't see it.

Why do they want CDPR and moreover, why would they want them if it's similar to how Bungie operates?

If they want more RPGs, I'd be more inclined to believe they'd get Square-Enix(even though it's a publisher).

Days Gone? It's just been in the news because the one guy was lamenting how things went and what could've been.

Look--the PlayStation "Showcase" in context of what we hold a "Showcase" to be was absolute doo-doo.

This feels like copium and damage control.

Sony is picky with their content reception.
They want top quality games to be associated with their brand. It's why they didn't greenlight the game early.
It wasn't Sony that didn't give the greenlight to Days Gone 2, it was Bend's internal management that was against it. The pitch never made it to the PS Studios management, it was always rejected and blocked by the studio itself, which had adopted a flat development structure following Garvin's departure in April 2019.

Days Gone 2 not happening you can blame it on a studio culture issue, not on Sony's interest on the project.

Yeah... I don't see Sony keep the no DRM part if they get ahold of GOG though...
GOG also sells pornographic titles and titles that, while not strictly pornographic, contain sexually explicit content and going off their recentish purchase of Right Stuf that'd be a big nono.

Edit: Oh and some titles that Sony demanded the developers censor on PlayStation in their unaltered form. Forgot about that bit.

It was always a top quality game to the majority of consumers. Only critics had beef with it because it was "too white".
What? The game was released in a broken state not unlike other games in recent years. That's what sunk the game review wise. I skipped it until they fixed most of the issues. It's good now but let's not pretend this was some shining gem that got dunked on by cancel culture.

Press square to doubt

I don't think CDPR and Sony have a good relationship after the 2077 situation. Needs to be a good relationship there if it were to happen. Huge risk on Sony's part to buy them.

Who the fuck would be making Days Gone 2? Bend is knee deep in a new IP, this we know straight from their mouth, despite fan support the game did not match the success, critically or commercially, maybe Sony would have tried a sequel, but the studio supposedly wanted to move on? I dunno, that was a whole debacle and doubt Sony or Bend wanna open that shit back up.

Don't see it happen (CDPR).
I guess DG2 could happen but they weren't happy from the first game reception so i'm not sure, seems to me no to both of them but very much hope so that Days Gone 2 is true somehow.
