Depends on gravity on planet. On low gravity moon you can basically fly through map (and if you jump from sprint you will keep speed for some time without wasting oxygen)
The thing is, i can jump and "fly" without jetpack in those planets already, the jetpack would be needed in planets with normal gravity, but alas...

Quest line is actually really good. Lots of twists and turns and many of the side missions can be played differently. Besides, the reward makes it worth it.
Are we talking about the faction in tequila city?

Yeah i don't know, they sound too goody2shoes for me.

Can i ditch their asses for another faction without problems?

No, about the freestar ranger questline from Akila city. And yeah, you can be in multiple factions simultanously.

The best use case for my basic jetpack has been to traverse every planet with sprint / jump / boost. You're just taking long hops and you never run out of Oxygen.
I don't explore planets, i just go where i have a sidequest, walking on barren planets and shooting at materials on rocks is not my idea of fun with this game.

My ship is so fucking huge, it barely fits on a landing pad. No, I'm not compensating for anything.

This is my ship, 'Sweet Lies':

I was testing Power Boostpack mod and damn, on a planet like Akila you can jump very high. You can go over the city wall, easiely. You can jump so high that if you're not careful you'll break your joint... witch I just did.

And I discovered a crazy cool minor detail. When you have a broken joint, it will hurt you when you crouch down. So now I'm in the middle of fuck knows where, sneaking on pirates and I can‘t even crouch properly. Amazing.

I don't explore planets, either. When I say traverse every planet, I just mean I hop around almost everywhere that I do go. It's not much, but it saves a little time running around a city or going from ship to landmark, etc.

34 hours already...

Loving this game. Yes you could probably do a 20 hours video on all the shite that's wrong with it but until other people start making games like this Bethesda will keep getting my money. Already done some top quality missions - maybe not Dark Brotherhood level yet but some great quest chains nonetheless.

I've mainly been beelining the quests/activities and not wandering around planets unless I could spot something huge and interesting in the distance as I think this is going to be 150 hours without any of the filler so complaints about planets being empty are null and void imo. I'm happy with the UI and think that people aren't using the scan mode enough as it let's you fast travel around without entering a menu.

The combat may still have some of the Bethesda jank but feels a million times better than something like Fallout 4 - very satisfying with a machine gun or shotgun and the boost pack makes for some good times.

Not done much of the base building yet but I love the ship designer. I know it's kind of a glorified mobile home with guns but there is plenty of space combat if you want it - it's not super detailed but taking out the engines and boarding a pirate ship (or trade ship if you are naughty) if good stuff.

So who's the best companion?

I was running with Barrett for a bit, he's okay albeit a bit too nice and not a great shot. Sarah is kinda snarky at times and I just can't deal with her face being both 30 and 50 years old. How old are you, Sarah?? What is your secret?

Cowboy Adam Jensen is okay, too. None of them really stand out so far.

I think the people crying/complaining about this game are maybe playing it the "wrong" way?
Treating it like no man's sky, trying to land everywhere and find random life or whatever never felt to me like this was that type of game; I've got 35 hours so far and after dropping vasco off at the lodge, I haven't done a single main quest, yet I've gone to and seen tons of awesome places and missions, like there's a literal stream of new shit every time and I could fuck around with ship building for hours more to come.

I like how backgrounds can be more than just fluff and you actually notice it sometimes in the world; like the guards on atlantis know my background and tell me to not cause any trouble, and you even get unique dialogue options sometimes:

For those who still despise fast travel, there really is an option:

When there is so much to do, even 1-2 min artificial delay of space flight would just annoy me at this point (~30h playing) and of course, you can always start the grav engine manually to see some transition animation, if it makes it better.

Even in NMS (which I also like for different reasons), I sometimes wish I could just fast travel to the space station, when I'm in a far away planet with no teleporter. Often it is faster to summon the Space Anomaly and use its teleporter. Sure, it is fun flying around every now and then, but sometimes you just want to get things done...
Yeah we established you could fly about the solar systems a day after release. 2 of us that I know off sat for hours flying towards stuff 😂 seems she jumped on the bandwagon albeit a lazy way 😂.

Did she retract what she said about space being this little area you’re in and that you don’t move closer of further away? (She removed her video of it)

So the jetpack is useless unless you max out the skill or what? I tried both the base one and the heavy one that just make you do a tall ass jump.

I have the perk already at level 2 and this fucking thing can't fly for more than 1,5 seconds? It feels completely useless for combat and barely useful for exploration, i feel like i wasted 2 skill points on this thing...

And since you always have to press triangle multiple times to have a bit of flying time you can't even use the right stick to aim, the game need a controller with back buttons to fly and shoot since the aerial time is so fucking low.

Even elex had a better feeling jetpack.
Jet packs aren’t ment to be like the rocketeer, they just help you falling from large distances so you don’t get hurt or evade attacks from wildlife/enemies when caught with your pants down.

Even on low G planets they aren’t all that useful bar allowing you to gain your stamina back 😂 but they are fun to boost about and they do get you to places faster in a roundabout way. As you can reach places you couldn’t before. (So you can bypass a long run by hopping over a wall for example)

Yeah they arent jet packs. Theyre modeled off the little air burst packs astronauts use. I still think it makes mobility a lot more fun.

This game combines the worst parts of Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 for the surveying of elements on planets.

In ME1 you have to land on a barren planet and physically travel to and mine the resources which were usually located on polar opposites of the map. In ME2 you have to painstakingly navigate a cursor over the planet map to find resources and launch probes to mine the,. In Starfield you have to navigate your cursor across the planet to find where a resource is and then ALSO land and physically survey the element too 😩

The 4-5 i've met are all bland, both look and writing wise, adam jensen VA is not gonna save that.

I hope for less dull companions going forward, maybe some ex serpent or crimson fleet or a humanoid android.

This is a far away from mass effect companions quality.

For now i'm riding with vasco, at least it has some funny quips when we slaughter mofos.

I’ve tried shooting these pins but that didn’t work. I guess it’s time to start carrying a cuter at all times.
How did you even farmed materials until now without a laser cutter?

I don't even do that and i still have one in the rapid choice menu...

For a second there, I thought you were talking about some other joint :)

Not gonna lie…The cutter is one of the best weapon in early game when ammo is scarced.

Hmmm. Ammo in the early game is only an issue if you stick to using the same gun. Which I think is good game design as it forces you to try different guns and you potentially discover few that you really like.

If I farm materials, it’s an expedition so I’ll grab my cutter before leaving the ship. But I rather buy materials from vendors. They’re cheap.

So another person that hasn't played the game at all. The fuck are you talking about?

Yeah, don’t be a cock wobble all your life sunshine. If you didn’t understand my post then you can ask for clarification without being a dickwad.

I’m playing the game right now completing missions based around element gathering and planet scanning.

You have to land on planets to scan for elements, yes? Some elements are that rare that you’ll struggle to find them simply by walking around on the surface, thus you have to navigate the planet with your cursor on the starmap to find exactly whereabouts a specific element resides (although you need to upgrade your Scanning skill to find in which region of the planet rare elements are). Hence my slightly tongue in cheek remark about the element mining in Starfield combining both (tedious) mechanics of ME1 and ME2.

Really? I never had ammo problems, did you just used one gun all the time?
I dont really use full automatic weapons due to recoil. I have a semi-automatic one now, with ammo rounds which i dont gind easily in exploration and i have to buy them.

I mainly use semi automatic weapons too. Even in Fallout 4 I rarely used a fully automatic weapon. Gotta conserve ammo.

I've stuck with Sarah all throughout, she isn't particularly exciting, but she's chatty and I've enjoyed her insights into Constellation.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Another +1 for the cutter is that you can use it in while in the 'scanning mode' (aka detective vision) interface.
