I looked at some lists. Here are my favorite films from 2012:

Oslo, August 31st

21 Jump Street
Django
The Master
The Raid

Seems like a pretty weak year overall though. 2007 was definitely a great year for films

Wow, can't believe these films are nearly five years old now. I remember going to see Wreck It Ralph like it was yesterday.

Meh.

Django and The Master were great. Looper, Dredd, Cabin in the Woods, and Moonrise Kingdom (which you left off) were good and I would watch again some day. There were other good ones too but not enough to make it an especially great year for movies.

Maybe a 7.

Also, you highlight Hobbit and Ted but don't even include Moonrise Kingdom, Argo, Zero Dark Thirty, Beasts of the Southern Wild or Jiro Dreams of Sushi??? For Shame OP. And highlight The Master.

Dredd was good, most others forgettable, maybe a 6/10 for me.

IMO 2010 was a great year, maybe 10/10:

How to Train Your Dragon
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
Despicable Me
Kick-Ass

runner ups:
The Book of Eli
Get Him to the Greek
Hot Tub Time Machine
Tron: Legacy
Tangled

I would rate 2012 a

out of 10.

Lame. Django, Lincoln, Skyfall are the highlights. The Grey is okay. I enjoyed The Hobbit as well, but it's not good.

Nothing is as bad as summer 2016, though. Yucky.

Pretty bad.
Prometheus is the probably the worst and most disappointing movie I've ever seen so it already loses major points.

The Master
Dredd
and Django are about it for me

A lot of disappointing movies there, but still a solid 7/10 overall (could have been so much more). The Oscar movies that year were mostly trash though, makes me think of 2016 as one of the better years for film.

That made me wonder if 2012 was really that bad so I looked it up and there are a ton of good movies not listed. What are you doing with your life op get inside and watch some fucking movies already.

Amour
Holy Motors
The Place Back Behind the Pines
Pitch Perfect
Moonrise Kingdom
Spring Breakers
Robot and Frank
Zero Dark Thirty
The Hunt
Men in Black III
Magic Mike
Seven Psychopaths
Tricked
John Carter
Chronicle
The Iceman
A Hijacking
Seeking a Friend for the End of the World
Wanderlust
Sightseers
Frances Ha
Grabbers
Safety Not Guaranteed
The Sessions
Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning
Smashed
The Pact

Looking at that list, pretty shit.

4/10?

Oh, seeing the movies not listed it's a bit better. Maybe 6/10. Feels difficult to judge entire years on their output.

Like a 6 at best. Thoroughly average year. The state of that first list, highlighting The Hobbit and not The Master. Ridiculous.

10/10

it was the year that birthed the amazing Spring Breakers

loved leaving the cinema with every stranger coming together in disgust saying "worst movie ever".

2012 was a solid 8 but the op's list is like a 4. None of my top ten films of 2012 are on it.

My top ten:
1. Zero Dark Thirty
2. Beyond the Hills
3. Spring Breakers
4. Moonrise Kingdom
5. Frances Ha
6. Wadjda
7. Beasts of the Southern Wild
8. It's Such a Beautiful Day
9. The Place Beyond the Pines
10. Sightseers

Yep, that sounds more like it!

You crazy. Best year for comic book/sci-fi/fantasy films the last decade.
What if you don't care about those kind of movies?

With It's Such a Beautiful Day and The Hunt 2012 had some of my favorites from this decade. There were also a bunch of other good movies like Holy Motors, Frances Ha and Amour. Out of the movies listed in the OP, Killing Them Softly is the only one I cared about. And even that one isn't particularly good, I just like it for some reason.
Overall, I think it was a decent year.

Edit: Thanks, Exploder, for the better list.
