So, all Bloodborne players who haven't played Souls before, how's it going?

I have never played a Dark a souls game before but I feel as though I am already good at it. I don't die much unless I am going against bosses.

Its tough but addicting

Im still in the first part of the game even after playing for 2 hours :( keep dying to due to stupid mistakes ..can't make it past the 2 wolves thing

The two in the bridge? You can get around by going down the stairs opposite of how you get up, and going through a house upstairs back to the bridge.

That's where I'm at too before I called it a night. I finally made it past the 20 dudes just to get mauled lol

Souls games all have very large worlds that seamlessly transfer between areas, and you can often see future/past areas very far into the distance, whereas The Order is very linear and uses cutscenes to load small areas that are very blocked off.

As for DSII vs BB, the asset density in this game is a lot higher than any other Souls game, environments are so full of stuff and detail. It's not just trivial to add all that stuff.

I noticed that. Feels satisfying making it pretty far into and area only to turn around and see that the area I was struggling so much in earlier is right next to me and done

You mean the hound/dogs or the giant werewolf things?
If it's the hounds I've found that it's best to let them approach you and then shoot them as they're about to attack you.

I'm new to the souls games too. In interested in this and dark souls 2 ps4. I have a feeling that I need to play dark souls 2 before this as this seems like it builds on the mechanics in the previous games. Idk but I'm def intrigued at both and will probably grab both soon.

I tried to review it, but it was too hard and obtuse. These games aren't for me.

Had to ask a peer to do it

This is the thing I find with reviews of soul-types games. Those who would play it, already like this sort of game. It's like having a person review a MOBA, unless the game is broken, the game isn't going to be much of an objective review.

I don't mean that someone who hates RPGs should review RPGs, but that games like Dark Souls 2 got mostly fantastic reviews, but over time it's seen has a huge step down from Demon's Souls and DS I.

Maybe it's because I don't know the controls well but the combat feels clunky. Especially when fighting multiple enemies simultaneously.

I have no idea what the story is.

I have no idea where to go.

And I hate the weapons I selected.

But I'll keep playing. I wanna see if I get better at it.

I defeated the Cleric Beast on my 7th try, took me a little bit to get to him, but this game is so much fun and challenging. It feels great when you accomplished something big like that in this game.

Is there a manual for the digital copy? I still don't quite know how to get co-op to work.

You can find it in the tile for the game on the PS4 menu.

One thing you need to know is that when you press a button to attack, there is no getting out of that attack animation. It's called animation priority. When fighting multiple enemies you have to pick them off and deal with them one by one, you can't fight them all at once.

First time soul, loving it, can't stop thinking about it.
I've read and watch enough to understand the basic, start with sole survivor and axe (very newbie friendly?)
Die a lot at first just learning the control, always mess up L2 and L1.
Couple hours later starting to pull of some stun locks, some R1 L1 transformation combo, feel good about myself.
Die too much figure I not suppose to play fancy combo, bought hammer go basic R2 charge one shot route.
Feel so good and much easier now.

Level design and enemy placement are top notch, everything in the game, big or small are carefully calculated,
Hats of to the lever designers.

Thanks all. But it seems now I'm having difficult time trying to even reach the bridge again lol. Stupid mistakes >.<

Well I played for a few hours last night when I found some time and I can't get past the first street that has like 20 dudes on it. So it's going poorly to say the least

Learn to separate them by getting one of them chasing you, when there's enough distance from the others, do a quick combo and kill him, then focus on the next one, etc.

The riflemen should never have a straight lone of sight while you're killing the others, be patient.

You can also run up the steps just before the bonfire and take out the rifleman on top of the carriage first...then turn around and get the few that followed you.

Slowly, played for probably 3 1/2 hours--thought spent half of that trying different builds and starting over. I settled on Lone Survivor origin and Saw Cleaver as the weapon.

I finally got past the first street with the bonfire, killed the big guy that was banging on the gate, then died at the guys and hounds up the next stairs and had to call it a night.

Tough as nails, but fair and addictive so I plan on sticking with it and trying to get better as I did feel like I was making progress in learning the combat etc.

This. Pebbles help a lot too with getting them to chase you. If you don't have any, just kill 3 or 4 guys to get some currency and warp back to the Hunter's Dream to buy some. They're cheap, you can get a full stock of 20 for like 250.

I played a couple hours of Dark Souls and tag teamed some Dark Souls 2 with a friend (about 20 hours), so I've played the series a tad but am definitely not intimate with it's design.

As said above Bloodborne has a really solid opening, great primer for what is to come. Having the enemies feel relatively easy to kill one by one made the early parts feel more manageable than past experiences.

I was rolling through the game and feeling quite confident until the
Cleric Beast. I started feeling a bit hopeless after my 5th death, I realized though that Molotovs were very effective and was able to handle accordingly once I stocked up on vials.
After beating this, I felt a sense of accomplishment that many fans probably have felt in past games. This pushed me over the edge and hooked me thus far.
Father Gascoine (sp?) wasn't a major challenge, took 2 tries. I'm now past the Gatling Gun guy (do you need to kill him?) and have found a shortcut to Old Yarnham's Lamp. Stopped after this success last night haha

Hit one with a pebble, then run back down the stairs into the house with the old man in the wheelchair. The werewolves can't enter the door and you can pick them off 2 hits and a dodge back at a time.

This can't be stated enough. All the weapons in the game play drastically differently so people not enjoying one weapon should try some others.

My first character was using the cane whip and I named my guy Simon...next gen Castlevania.

After an hour I rerolled and went saw blade, but now exclusively use the axe.

really enjoying it so far, this is still only my 2nd day, almost beat cleric beast 1st try today but now i'm out of molotovs
decided to spend echoes to upgrade and level up, even found a new armor after checking wiki for some help
should be able to beat him tomorrow :>

to anyone that's stuck on the burnt monster with like 15 mobs, i suggest use your gun to bait them 1 by 1

on the 2 wolves, yeah molotovs are how i beat them the 1st time as well, don't use too many since you'd want to use them on the boss later

Only played a little Demons Soul's.

This is the greatest thing I have played in a while. Souls always intrigued me, but the art style for BB is my jam. I now get the brutal but fair system that fans of the series have always adored.

I'm having a lot easier of a time playing Bloodborne. I like the speed. I couldn't get far in the Dark Souls series despite beating Demon's Souls. I feel like this is DMC meets Souls for me and I love it.

I'm not far at all -- 30 minutes (which is nothing, I know) but I am really enjoying the look of the game and i like the two options per weapon.

It'll be very interesting for me when I end up playing this game. Some of you know I have a love-hate relationship with Dark Souls, so I'm unsure where Bloodborne will fall on the spectrum of frustrating and fun. Hopefully more towards the latter side.

I hate obtuse game design, so i'm not holding my breath.

Game is not for me. I wanted to relax after a long day of work and this game makes me even more stressed out.

I envy all u masochist who enjoy this game tho.

You dont have to be a masochist to enjoy these types of games.

Vaatividya put it best.

"Souls games arnt hard, they're just hard to get into"

Im P sure this is also the same for Bloodborne. Soon as you get the lowdown You'll realise how simple everything is.

nah shit's still hard. It's fun though.

I'm not sure If can say that I never played any souls games, because I played Demons Souls until the Spider boss inside a tunnel, after that I never touched again.

Right now I have played 5 hours of Bloodporn, I mean Bloodborne and I'm having a blast. Such amazing game, having a completely different felling from the old Demons Souls. I can say that I am in love now.

Forgot to mention, this game is quite addictive. Can't wait to get home and die a lot.

So how do you explain this difference to Demon's Souls and DS I?

It's like your second paragraph contradicts the first.

It's brutal. Until you summon overleveled helpers. And then it's a breeze. Feels like cheating. They just come in and you can stay back and watch.

The other thread shouldn't have been locked. I once asked noobies for impressions in the OT and no one responded because it was going too fast.

Not my type of game, requires way too much of my patience and attention, I just want to sit and relax while playing a game, not scream of frustration.

Glad i read this thread. I was on the fence but the impressions of newcomers definitely convinced me. just bought it.

First time I've played one of these and I'm head over heels in love with it. The difficulty is a blessing. Looking for the 3rd boss now. Father went down first try but he was an asshole for sure.

I'm absolutely loving it. I got about 2 hours in this morning and didn't make it to the first boss. I definitely was doing stuff wrong but had no idea.

I wish I knew I could go back to the hub world and spend the points I was accumulating instead of dying and them resetting. I finally got to the point where i could get past the first area to the bridge and could get to the guy beating on the door without losing any health only to die there after...all those wasted upgrades. Oh and I wish I knew that triangle would let me heal. I have to think I was near the first checkpoint when I died and could have at least healed.

One thing that I am really enjoying is that I feel like I'm continually getting better.
