Suicide Squad: Jared Leto seems less than thrilled his Joker scenes got cut.

They really slice this movie up. Removed all the character defining stuff that would have given the squad personality
They did the same thing to BvS.

Compare the Ultimate Edition to the theatrical mess. The pacing alone is much better, half the character arcs are put back in the movie.

That's probably why Snyder had the right to make an "Ultimate Edition" R-rated cut put in his contract and originally did a four hour first cut.

I can't believe they aired that. It was crazy. No one talked about it afterwards. Really awkward.

They did talk a lot about it in the press when they aired that episode. It was a pretty big deal (and luckily very well written, so the show had the public/critics at its side).

Of course, it became even bigger news when the Cameron/pig fucker story broke a couple of years later and everyone was freaking out about how Black Mirror predicted the future. Even some of the jokey headlines and media responses from the fake scenario in the episode were exactly how the real media reacted to the Cameron story.

Charlie Brooker is an absolute genius.

Edit: Just realized this is probably a couple of pages too late. Sorry about that.

I'm at least glad to hear that there's not much Joker in the movie, because regardless of Leto's quality in the role, that's just not a character I'm interested in seeing more of in any medium.

Well, good for him and the movie that it was cutted, because he is the worst Joker ever according to some critics I've read.

almost everything he did was cut so it`s not fair to say he did a bad job. WB did a terrible job cutting everything Leto put into this movie.

They are cowards!

I feel like the cast and crew worked really hard on the movie and were pleased of the thing they got to be a part of and became friends, practically bonding on set and then WB slashed apart and moved around the thing they were so proud of.

Jared is just the only one venting(atleast publicly) and it makes sense considering his character was the one to lose out the most. Here's a list of the scenes that were cut from the movie, be sure to ctrl+f Joker: https://www.reddit.com/r/DC_Cinemat...st_of_the_deleted_scenes/d65ifd0?compact=true

whoa, this is crazy if true...

Leto can be a douche for sure. Still don't see why many in this thread are so keen on tearing him apart. I wouldn't say his Joker is terrific, just good. Still, part of the reason I can't say that is because he was completely underdeveloped. This would be fine had there clearly not been a thorough line of Joker that was supposed to be in this film.

Leto has every right to be pissed considering he saw his hard work butchered. Whether or not this Joker is a favorite incarnation.

They should have cut everything because what they left in was pretty damn terrible and not necessary for the story.

It's odd how polarized people are on Leto.
To me he was just trying to play a crazy character and be as wacky as possible.

Heath's joker had subtly, nuance and I felt like he was a fleshed out person with a really fucked up past.

I've only seen Nolan's films and this one so no idea how Leto ranks from all Batman films but to me Leto had none of the aspects which made Heath's performance so incredible.

Margot Robbie on the other hand nailed her role and tapped in to what makes Harley an interesting character like Heath did with Joker. Leto wasn't worthy of being her on screen companion.

lol
"Extended scene of Joker interrogating Captain Griggs, including the line, "I can't wait to show you my toys," which was in every trailer, but was removed from the movie."
"Extended bar scene with Harley taking everyone's orders. Deadshot calls for a shot, Katana wants whiskey, Croc and Boomerang settle for beer, Harley asks Diablo wants and he prefers water which she jokes, "is a good idea." The scene was featured in the trailers, but in the movie it cuts directly to Deadshot's speech about them all almost pulling the mission off."

To be fair if Snyder and the writers actually removed a lot of useless fat and wrote a better script they wouldn't need an ultimate cut. BvS is a mess either way.

It's a completely normal thing to do, comparing people taking the same roles and how they played it differently. Happens with Shakespeare all the time.

That's not what this thread is about so it's irrelevant. This thread is not about the quality of his performance, it's people judging him for being upset about his performance being dramatically cut. Heath really has no place in this thread outside of people stretching to Mr Fantastic proportions at Leto's mentions of getting more respect after death.

To be fair if Snyder and the writers actually removed a lot of useless fat and wrote a better script they wouldn't need an ultimate cut. BvS is a mess either way.

WHY would you cut this out!?

Seriously, it's not a hilarious joke or anything, but it's at least something and it was featured fairly predominately in your early marketing

Man...this movie truly sounds like it was ripped apart in editing

Is there any chance that we will get the original cut of the film?

I wanted to like this movie but it was a train wreck. The original cut sounds at least a bit better...

An ensemble movie doesn't work if you don't get to know the ensemble. Sounds like they removed all the character beats
You can feel it too. That's where a lot of the sloppiness and frustration comes from. There are no moments where we get to see these characters interact with each other. It goes from scene to scene with no sense of progression. Just slogs along.

Side note: Robbie is a great Harley but she is written terribly. Thing is she's given more time in this. Joker is similarly given shit to work with but he has no room to at least chew on his scenes. The "I'm not gonna kill you" scene is a benchmark in how not to edit a scene; fucking mess.

I liked his Joker, not everyrhing about it but overall, with the little bit we saw, I was happy with the character. I am glad that he will most likely get aich bigger role on a Batman film sometime,i hope he is excited for that rather than upset and decides against it or anything like that.

They won't say anything for now. Snyder already had his UC rated and in his contract, so he was pretty much free to say "Yeah, there's a longer, better cut out there and I'll stick it in the blu-ray". If Ayer did that now, he's essentially admitting "Yeah the studio fucked with this cut, don't bother watching it and buy the blu-ray instead!".

What's really amusing to me is how WB apparently felt the need to cut out so much of the Joker and downplay him, but still had
the movie end with Joker breaking out Harley and the final shot is actually them hugging.

I can't wait for WB/DC to cut out all the action scenes in The Batman movie and have a first act that was created by picking numbers out of a hat.

Well, yeah. But the Ultimate Edition gave Clark an arc that didn't exist, both he and Lois are shown actually investigating/reporting unlike the theatrical cut where it's more Lois asking for things from Perry and Perry yelling at Clark. Also, Clark, you know, reacting to the bombing.

It also tinkered a bit with Lex's, who is a hot mess and unsalvageable, and yet, he's far more effective as a villain in the Ultimate Edition because his whole scheme is laid out before us as the others put the pieces together rather than him giving a two sentence summary to Clark on top of LexCorp Tower.

Some of the scenes are also better placed and despite being longer the whole thing is better paced out. BvS Theatrical jumps all over the place, so does Suicide Squad. Feels chopped up and put back together with only a basic outline to checkmark all the scenes, fuck any texture.

Also, the Ultimate Edition has the Alfred chopping wood scene and it's perfectly placed.

And the Arkham "joke" getting trimmed is just silly.

lmao

yeah, every actor gives their colleagues gifts on set, dead rats are nbd.
Um yeah costars give each other gifts all the time. And it wasn't a dead rat it was live. Margot named it kept it for a while and wanted to keep it but the landlord's wouldn't let her so she gave it to Guillermo Del Toro. And way to go ignoring everything else in context. The cast loved it and even got him to sign their gifts but go ahead and be outraged for them lol. Honestly it sounds like the cast had a sicker sense of humor together than Jared. They refuse to even talk about some of the X-rated they did other than that's what it is. Cara Snapchatted Will Smith with a fake hardcore porn pics of Margot showing everyone and laughing that sounds weirder than most of the shit people are mad at Jared about imo, but that's just who they are

Feel bad for Leto. Seems like he worked really hard only to have most of his stuff cut, but still, he needs to calm down.

This. Leto's scenes just weren't given any room to breathe, they just wheeled him out for 30 seconds at a time and then he's gone.

Some might make fun of him now but in 10 years we will look back on this day. This day of August 6th 2016. Where we will come to the conclusion that the Jared Leto version of The Joker from DC Comics might have been the best rendition of the comic character called The Joker. Maybe even of all time. Obviously Heath Ledger, rest in peace brother, was awesome and genious in his role of the Joker but what Jared Leto has delivered, due to the circumstances, due to the recut, due to his troubled past, makes me very positive about the fact that in 10 years, as long as we are not banned, we will come back to this thread, and look around... we will look around and agree. We agree that Letos performance as the Joker in 2016s Suicide Squad was the beginning of the Jared Leto era of Joker. I'm sure we will see much more of him in the future. I wouldn't even mind if we see a Joker Solo movie. Give me a whole move that is basically his origin story. Add some more Harley to get a bigger crowd. This movie doesn't even need a Batman. Maybe not even a Superman. Just Jared Leto as Joker. Some people might me on the edge but you have to look deeper. Dude's killing it. He's giving life to a comic character. Not only life but soul. Leto is a performer. In real life and in movies. In 10 years, GAF. In 10 years you will agree with me.

Leto's not fit to carry Ledger's used mouth scar prosthetic. Fuck outta here with this nonsense.

This. Leto's scenes just weren't given any room to breathe, they just wheeled him out for 30 seconds at a time and then he's gone.

If he can get to Mars in 30 seconds why can't he play a good Joker scene in that time?

Who cares? Jared Leto is such a shit actor, he would probably try to live on mepos for a year to prep for his role as cousin larry on the Perfect Strangers cinematic universe reboot.

A reply on that reddit thread made me realize one reason Leto could be so upset is because he does the whole method acting/never breaking character thing.

If they not only cut his scenes, but also fucked up the Harley/Joker relationship from what it generally is to the stupid lovey romance, he'd be upset about that from a creative/character perspective.

His only character interaction in the movie and they twisted it to be more of a regular love story where the Joker isn't a jerk but so in love. And then dumped a bunch of his other scenes.

He's like, why did I bother. No wonder he's so unenthusiastic in all the press interviews. (Plus having to answer the same question about his gifts over and over.)

I honestly feel bad for him. It seems like he put his heart and soul in it, and he did not try to copy Ledger to his credit. All that to be used as a gimmick in the trailers.
WB is just the worst.

Is he really barely in the movie? I read a couple of reviews and they hardly mention the Joker.

We're getting an extended uncut R-rated Joker's cut right.

Probably not, apparently a lot of those scenes show cased Joker and Harley's abusive relationship and the new cut of the movie took out all of those references plus others where characters said some 'bad guy' type stuff.
