You are really overestimating connor's grappling. Hes quite bad on the ground. Not sage northcutt levels of bad, but bad. He got by in fw on the ground due to size/strength

Nate is a legit black belt in bjj, with good subs from top and bottom

Conor was looking for help from the ref when Mendes had him pinned down.

Mendes was staying active with smashing elbows but Conor was almost pleading to the ref to get it stood up because he couldn't do anything but take them.

Nate's not a wrestler but he obviously has vast ju jitsu skills.

Not sure what would happen if it goes to the ground.

I know if it was dos Anjos, Conor would be bloody and never be able to get it back standing.

Aldo is just about as proven a guy as it gets.

Yeah but aldo had a 14 month lay off beforehand. How much of that loss can be chalked up to ring rust?

IMO theres a legit question mark over McGregors last 3 fights easily. Mendes, took the fight on 2 weeks notice. Aldo, off 14 months beforehand. Siver? Fucking tomato can bum full stop. And now Diaz on another 2 weeks notice. Anyone who thinks you can prepare for a fight at this level in 2 weeks is kidding themselves.
Hate on Jones all you like at least he has fought the best in his division and embarrassed them almost every time and has a legit claim to GOAT status, Conor is nowhere near GOAT-tier despite what all the UFC noob McGregor nuthugger fans will tell you

Yes but it isnt Conors fault when his opponents pull out and he wants the card to go on.
I still believe Aldo is a dangerous fight for him. I dont think that counter KO is going to happen again.

Damn, Shevchenko went full female Ivan Drago in her interview.

"What's important to me is every victory, Martial arts is my life. I'm here not to have fun. Fight for me is victory. It's all that I want."

If she dies, she dies.

Diaz is not the better boxer. At all. People say that because its ingrained that the "Diaz boys can box" which is true. But Conor is a pure precision striker

Conor was made to look like a fool against Aldo too. Talking smack like a clown and getting laughed at by Aldo, looking 'shook,' etc. Pretty much 100% of mma hipsters were picking aldo there. Not at 100% here, but getting pretty close.
Just bad game plan on his part. I fully believe Aldo could destroy his Conor's legs. Nate could be serious trouble for him on the ground.

Diaz is the better boxer. People are going to be in for a rude awakening tonight if they think this isn't going to be a fight. Everyone is drinking the kool-aid. Nate does not have to take the fight to the ground to win, he has a great chance in the standup too.

To me he's a much better boxer. Not to say that Connor isn't a very dangerous striker, but Nate has footwork, movement he hasn't faced before.

I actually feel the exact opposite. People are in for a rude awakening with Nate. He moves in straight lines and McGregor will utilize angles to finish him.

Nates footwork is terrible. He has nice hands but footwork is not what sets up his punches

Jon Jones also fought consecutive fights against 185 pound fighters, one of whom was coming off of a loss. AND he rejected a short notice fight against one of those middleweights who would have only had two weeks to prepare for him.

That's why he should be planning on taking him down. But I also can see the classic end of punches barrage coming into play too, making Conor look a fool.

Conor McGregor fought consecutive fights against 145 pound fighters even though he's a natural 155 pound fighter. Max Holloway and Diego Brandão were coming off losses too.

Its worth remembering Nate Diaz was finished by strikes only 4 fights ago by a fighter with a 3 inch shorter reach than what McGregor has.

You're right. People never claimed Jon Jones should have been fighting in the heavyweight division if he weren't cutting too much. Or more relevantly, the only other featherweight champion in UFC history who always looks like he might actually die if the weigh-ins had a Q&A session afterwords.

For the record, they were wrong, just like you are about Conor. He's weighing in under the limit and that's all the rules require. They're bad rules but most of the top fighters abuse them. I was just pointing out that everybody has streaks where they faced competition that was lower than what they should have been fighting. Whether it's because of injuries, lack of actual fighters on the same level, or because somebody in Japan wanted to see a freak show. The best all have fights that shouldn't really be on their records.

Four fights ago but also 3 years ago.

And by a less dynamic striker with a shorter reach than Conor.

Diaz only attacks in straight lines. Josh Thompson finished him by circling and hitting him with angles. The exact same thing will likely happen tonight

How am I wrong by saying Conor is a natural 155 pound fighter? It's true.

All I'm saying in this thread is people shouldn't be counting Diaz out. His standup is being criminally underrated at the moment so don't be shocked if he's the one to win the exchanges. I'm still favoring Conor due to it being a short notice fight for Diaz and I'd still call it a 50/50 fight even if Diaz had a full camp.

The eternal "fighters should fight at their walking around weight" dream is completely unrealistic until the rules change. As long as the system is the way it is, fighters will make the hardest weight cut possible to gain an advantage on fight night.

re: the stylistic matchup - I don't think McGregor is concerned about a guy that has good striking for an MMA fighter (even with the longer reach), McGregor would be much more at an disadvantage against a submission specialist with an excellent ground game, which Nate just doesn't have. Yes, there are a lot of question marks on how McGregor will perform against someone who's taller, most likely ~12-15 pounds heavier and has a longer reach at a weight he hasn't competed at yet, but stylistically, this is a good matchup for him.

I'm with you. The guy has been around the block, can take shots and can sure as hell deliver them. Even if Conor wins, he is not going to take him out easily. Nate is a fucking scrapper.

Conor probably wins tonight but he's not in his natural weight class. Shit, the fact that his wrestling is subpar will make his lack of size even more noticeable. Hopefully he wins tonight and sticks around at lightweight.

Funny, I remember you saying Conors embarrassing grappling was years ago and so couldn't be trusted.,

Pls stop.

Diaz will have his gazelle carcass buried in the Mojave after Conor gets the quick clean kill and removes head from torso. Conor has the best stand up ever, elite grappling, elite strength. He would KO Cain in the first round. Did you see those biceps and quads? Makes me swoon. Only way Conor gets a loss on his record is when he tests positive for THC after eating Diaz's corpse.

Nate is dangerous on the ground. He's a legit bjj black belt. His boxing will give McGregor problems but his ground game is a big advantage he should use.

Alright that got me weak, lmfao

In 2010.....Diaz lost to strikes in 2013. And I haven't seen a counter argument to the straight lines attack problem.

If Diaz wins this it will be a bigger upset to me than Holm vs Rousey. I dont feel like Diaz has much for him at all. You never know for certain though

Because there isn't any. Diaz lines up for Connor's straight left. His boxing skills are being overrated for whatever reason.

You know what, I'm not even favoring Diaz to win but let's make an avatar bet. If you accept and lose I will choose an appropriate Nate/Conor/Kool-Aid man avatar for you, you can choose my appropriately themed Conor avatar.

Deal?

I'm Irish and normally I'd be all for Irish winning everything but I don't I've ever wanted to see someone knocked out so bad before.

McGregor has turned into a bloody wagon lately

Oh, I agree that compared to what we've seen of McGregor's ground game, Nate has an advantage over him on the ground and if he's smart, he probably would aim to take the fight there.

There's a good chance he'll just try to stand and bang, though.

Don't be scared homie.

Im not scared. McGregor might get KTFO in Rd 1. Its a fight you never know anything for certain until they actually get in the cage and fight. That and I dont make forum bets, its not something I'm interested in.

There's beyond a good chance. Nate Diaz is going to fight like Nate Diaz. And he's going to do it on short notice against somebody who is also great at MMA boxing and was actually preparing for a fight. People saying McGregor has equal (OR BETTER?!) grappling than Nate Diaz are making me question whether or not I want to see Nate Diaz get knocked on his ass tonight.

I mean I still do. Don't get me wrong. Very few things would make me laugh harder on any given Saturday night. I'm not crazy. I still want to see Nate get hit hard in the mouth, but if he weren't so Nate Diaz he could have a great chance at winning on the ground.

He is a hardass who has been around and should not be overlooked. Conor needs to keep his bravado in check is all I am saying. Even the best of them get caught.

Conor McGregor is neither capable nor willing to keep his bravado in check. The longer his streak continues, the more people will want to watch, whether it is to see him win again or to see him finally lose.

Either way, he'll collect his share.

Goddamn that's a hard shot.

Hey, I enjoy his antics and love the guy. I just know that everyone gets caught up to one day and Nate Diaz is not someone you overlook. He is a dangerous bastard who does not give a shit.
