Assassin's Creed Valhalla. It's a pretty slow start to this game, but still pretty good so far. I like how there's barely any mention of the animus stuff so far.

Finished Bugsnax last night, so just doing all side bits for the trophies.

Honestly, that game got a lot of stick and was ridiculed when it was revealed, but it was actually pretty good fun. Far from amazing, but also not the train wreck most were expecting.

Planning on jumping into Death's Door once I'm done.

Elden Ring. A lot of Elden Ring. Nothing but Elden Ring for the past few days now. (for review)

Before that, I was playing a lot of Lost Ark. Still trying to log in daily to get the rewards and check on my Stronghold stuff.

Also, some God of War on PC. Casually going through that again after perfecting it on PS4 a while back.

And some Halo Infinite here and there. Waiting on the next season of Destiny 2 to start so that's on a little hiatus for a week. Friends and I played a lot of Back 4 Blood for a couple of weeks there, now waiting on the DLC to start coming out. Also played a lot of Dying Light 2, but having beaten it twice now (first solo, then co-op), I'm fine with letting that take a backseat for a long while.

Finished God of War II (PS3). Great game. Still playing Tales of Arise, I'm at the 5th Lord's area. I also started Sonic Unleashed which I got for Series X in that backwards compatible sale a month or so back. I'm suprised how good it is

The first game I've finished for 2022 is the RPG-Backbone, and that was only because it was on Gamepass, the game is effectively a motion comic, what you choose to say doesn't impact the way the story goes...but somewhat entertaining nonetheless and I liked the art-style... Halo infinite could be a potential pain in the butt with the last-two bosses...even on "normal" once that's done I doubt I'll go through it again unless there is some new story DLC in the future....this is the first EVER main-line Halo game I haven't brought......all the others I brought physical copies for when they released...(apart from ODST)....

Lion King on SNES. I swear people back in the days were fucking masochistic. You die and die and die until you say fuck it and flush the cartridge down the toilet. All these Disney classics are hard as shit.

Yakuza Kiwami - Great remake of a great game. But also kinda rough playing it immediately after Yakuza 0. The franchise got a lot better with the second game, and having one character in only one playable location immediately feels like a reminder that it is the oldest game in the franchise. Some of the boss fights are overly long spam festivals too. If this had been released further apart from Yakuza 0, it wouldn't be suffering so much by comparison.
Yeah cause you played 0 compared to the very first one on ps2.

Finished Lion King and it was garbage. Moving on to Aladdin and Jungle Book. I read Shinji Mikami directed Aladdin before he became a superstar with Resident Evil. Genesis version still holds up.

The Citadel, very fun anime/ghost in the shell-style retro/somewhat tactical shooter with some amazing gunplay.
Its really rare to get a japanese FPS, let alone one that plays as good as this.

Finished off Powerslave, and now digging into Tales of Destiny: Director's Cut. This got a translation patch last year, which has gotten a number of updates and a good amount of polish since, so I thought it would be a good time to jump in.

Tales of Destiny was one of my least favorite games in the series. Some of that was owed to the crappy localization, which cut out the skits that helped give the game some color, but it also just had brutal ecounter rates, a thin plot, and a simplistic combat system. And it had a larger cast that felt less developed (which could partly be due to the afforementioned cut skits).

Anyways, Director's Cut is a whole new ball game. Everything is remade and feels a lot like Tales of Eternia, which is one of my favorite games in the series. The script is a lot more fleshed out and the characterization is worlds better. There's tons of voice acting, and of course the skits are translated this time. The story itself is still not great, but it's a lot more forgivable when the rest is actually fun.

Really good remaster of an underappreciated game. They stitched together the best parts of the different versions in a way that felt totally seamless and looked right. There are a couple puzzles I found frustrating toward the end of the game, but overall I thought it was great.
Thanks mate, glad to read positive opinions.

I’m between two games, Dying Light 2, doing free roam as I finished the main game last weekend, and Streets of Rage 4, finishing up survival mode so I can get my trophy for unlocking everyone’s moves.

Just finished Dawnguard in Skyrim and will now mop up some open quests (inkl. Getting rid of vampirism) and then replay RE4 for the 100st time - this time on my new SX. :D

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Dying Light 2.

I want to like the game but niggling issues and creeping bugs are making me not like it that much.

Just started this like 10 minutes ago xD. The patch is stupid-easy to do, you just drag-and-drop the file to the batch program and it does the rest. Using Beetle HW PSX core in Mednafen for this, don't seem to have any issues at all.

Apparently there are problems using PCSX and another emulator, but you can try if you like. So far I get some 2001 Space Odyssey & Killer 7 vibes from what's been introduced. Supposedly the story's actually quite serious and deals a lot with mental illness and abuse, despite the furry theme.

Also apparently there are some "things", don't know what exactly, similar between this and Kowloon's Gate (which should hopefully also get a fan translation soon). If you're interested you should be able to find the image & patch easily enough. Okay, back to playing!

Elden Ring on PS5

I'm actually interested in picking this up, but it'd have to be for PS4 (no PS5 yet). Anyone know how the performance is on there?

Okay so this might have more of an Event Horizon/Sunshine vibe to it after all. Seems like it might be at least semi-survival horror or have psychological horror in the story as well. Pretty intriguing.

Right, this is not what I thought this game would be at all 🤣. Was just expecting a more lighthearted, kind of Sonic-style story with furry characters but nah, this seems a lot darker and serious than that.

Kind of like Bugsnax (apparently) 😉

What time is it?
I picked up Vampire Survivors on a whim and have "finished" (reaching level 100) the first two areas. It is pretty mindless and not much of a rogue as the progression of enemies is fixed to the level timers. You've got persistence in that you can purchase character/ability/weapon power ups which you'll need some to finish the levels. It kind of reminds me of a clicker game. I've certainly put in more than $3 worth of hours into it, but I wouldn't say it is worth much more than that either, at least in the current early access state.

I've also been working my way through the Deedlit metroidvania game. It looks and play well and while I do appreciate the Ikaruga inspired mechanics, everything just feels on the shallow side. The map feels small and the room layouts are really simplistic. Getting to the next boss is never more than a few moments away and you are constantly getting the next weapon, bow, spell or familiar upgrade. Everything just seems to lack significance with the only interesting thing being the bosses.

Just finished Yakuza 6 on Series X.
Mixed feelings regarding the game itself... for some reason, the game feels rather half done, or just half of what it could be.
No casinos, or nearly 1/3 of Kamuro-cho blocked off, entire weapons system gone... etc. Also quite buggy one too.
But the story was good enough, decent characters & ending was quite moving and fitting end for the Kiryu saga.

Before starting Yakuza 7, which I have high hopes for - taking a break from the series and going to play - Gravity Rush Remaster on PS5.
I gave up the Vita one about 1/3rd way in as I just couldn't get used to the controlling mechanism... but hoping to finish this time around!

Finished doom 2016. The best fps I've played since the halo trilogy, so much work was put into the enemy ai. The environments were plain awesome too, from the dusty rocky surface of mars, futuristic labs and the fiery hells.

The game has different sections were you enter an arena and have to clear a wave of varying different mobs, the arena is very complex vertically. It's different from a modern shooter in the fact that you can't stay still, you must always be moving and looking for heath pick-ups, or you will get smoked by the enemies.

A good fps comes down to how well the enemy ai is, how good the level design is, and obviously how good the guns are, doom excels in all these categories.

The ending is a big anti-climactic, I must say.

Holy hell, without a guide this game would be so demoralizing with how unprepared you can be entering new areas and missing out on events for all the endings.
There's a DX version? I just bought the original for PS3.

I'm playing Castlevania Lords of Shadow on Series X. I got it for free on gwg a long time ago. It's great.

Most of the endings are meant to be done in ng+. The game expects you to get the "regular" ending and then go from there.

You can't approach the Atelier series in the same way you do other games.
