Twitch Plays Pokemon Thread 3: Return of Red... Aussies win again!

Crystal followed Red near 24 hours afterwards and it turns out a lot of people were simply burnt out with such an extended period of following and watching TPP. I don't really expect the popularity to rise with Emerald regardless, but a week off is a nice breather, y'know.
people were not burnt out, they just lost interest. I don't see how people need to "rest" for watching or playing this, it's not like there are always the same 10k people doing everything.

My guess is that they need to hack it a bit. And maybe include an extra surprise or two.
that's problably it but he also probably doesn't need 5 days to do that.

Essentially we HAVE to pick May (the female) for emerald - otherwise I don't us getting the old numbers of before.

The rest will write itself basically.

There's no way in hell that's going to happen unless the game started in democracy mode. Everyone was spamming a so hard at the beginning of Crystal that I didn't even see the gender option prompt. Its a shame, because that comic from a few pages back made me want to see a May playthrough happen.

Not so different, really. If you play the same game for twenty days on end, you are bound to lose interest, which can be cured by taking some time off. While I will probably follow Emerald too ( I thought I wouldn't watch Crystal but ended up watching a lot anyway ) I don't really see the need to "rush" to the very next game either. The streamer probably has his own reason as well.

Starter picks for emerald?

How about treeko since we haven't started with a grass starter? All the starters are ok with me.

I'm not sure that taking some time off is going to "cure" the major loss of interest. it's just that it got boring, for most of the people anyway. you won't see again those 70-100k+ viewers like in the first tpp even if he takes a break of one month.

Yeah, I know that. I thinking we'll probably be under 10k for the majority of the Emerald run, with a few spikes here and there, but who can say what will happen at this point. As for the 'rest', I am just speaking for what I feel myself and what I have seen many other suggest. And besides, from what I understand the streamer is just one person and as automatic as everything has seemed until now, I imagine that there has been a lot of pressure from his side too to keep everything functional.

In emerald when you spam down you wont cycle back to the guy like in crystal.

So definitely possible!

I think there was more broad 'familiarity' with Gen I too, for the population at large. I know Blue was the only Pokemon game I really got 'into' and I could play it back from memory, but Crystal just didn't have that same 'oomph' for me. I might have tuned in three or four times randomly.

Does anyone know if there is video of Twitch Plays Gameboy Advance Video Pokemon? I missed it, but searching for videos of it only results in videos of TPP.

Woah just turned into twitch wondering why one of my absolute favorite game series, Golden Sun (GBA titles anyways, DS one sucks), got so many views.

Turns out it's this twitchplays stuff, huh.

I really cannot imagine it being possible to go through the game like that. For example if you don't use Djinns properly, especially assigning every char terrible classes via Djinns, it's going to be super, super tough to fight a lot of the enemies.

And then there are some rather clever puzzles which also require a lot of precise object movement... so eh.

It's also obvious the fad is over now. Only 5k viewers.

They're just screwing around until the new Pokemon starts next week. They will probably switch games long before significant progress is made.

Has anyone been keeping track of all the games they've gone through? I see the Reddit live updater has some (MGS GBC, GTA Advance, Rhythm Heaven, and a few other) but think it's missing a few.

It's unfortunate that the most interesting part of Emerald are events we're most certainly not going to attempt, getting the Regis was really fun compared to how every other legendary trio are found.

Nah, Gen I takes that pretty easily.

Gen 1 had wartortle and charmeleon. Charmeleon and non shiny charizard have always felt sort of bland and meh to me, and wartortle is BAD.

Gen 2 had the minus chikorita chikorita line ad croconaw.
Gen 3 had marshtomp and combusken. 1st is bad, 2nd is meh. That's it
Gen 4 had Piplup, Prinplup, and Monferno.
Gen 5 had servine, serperior (to an extent), pignite, and maybe Emboar
Gen 6 had Braixen, Delphox, and Quilladin

Gen 3 wins

Wait, you guys were watching the anime.!!?
Damnitt I missed that lol

Treecko might be the most thematically appropriate choice, seeing as it will complete our elemental trio of Leer lizards. But I don't think you can argue that Mudkip isn't the best choice for playing to win.

Charmeleon is one of the ten coolest lookin pokemon to me, even above Charizard. Yeah I've never liked Wartortle, but by my count that is 8 for 9 when it comes to starter design in gen 1.

I just hope they don't choose Torchic, I don't want to see all the fanart and lore with chickenmaskman in it.

Yeah, Charmeleon is badass

Funny to think about this.

I'm told the cursor highlights Torchic by default when it's time to chose a starter, so odds are we'll end up with Torchic just due to stream delay and A spam.

I didnt really followed TPPC, but I wanted to ask if there was also a lore?

Yes. Crystal's lore was about the unfair burden of expectations, the rise of 'mon, and the slayer of Gods. The mighty General Lazor, seeking to avenge his fallen friends and bring balance back to the world, had to slay the earthly incarnation of the Helix. Beside him were Burrito the Espeon, bringing peace to the old General's heart, Metal Gear the Steelix, a mercenary of no small power and capability, Just Brian the Pidgeot, seeking to escape the long shadow of his predecessor, and Katie the Dragonite, daughter of Lance's Dragonite, avenging her father's death at the hands of All Terrain Vehicle. Supporting characters include Ace, Joey's Rattata willingly given up to aid us in our quest, Shuck Norris, the almighty shifter of boulders, Duke Smoochum, the babe with an attitude, Ozzy Oxxoz the Metapod, eater of Zubats, Admiral the Sentret, who gave his life for us, Omelette the Togepi, beloved by the General like a child and yet ruthlessly slaughtered by the PC, Weezus the Koffing, and his toxic lyrics, and many more.

As someone said, it's pretty impressive that we managed to create a religion, rebel against it and slay our God in less than a month's time.

Also, Mudkip is the greatest starter ever. That water/earth combination is godly.

There's also the legacy of the released pokemon. Gator taking Admiral Sentret's Cut and Gator avenging Prince Omelette the Togepi.

I think that picture explains exactly why we should pick Treeko.

I'm totally on board the Treecko wagon. Mind you, it's going to be Torchic just because of the way the select screen works.
