Gamers are awfully defensive about fanservice and other problematic things in a lot of things, so no surprise there. This thread alone is proof of that. I'm personally disappointed in Street Fighter and other franchises' general refusal to be more progressive in order to appease straight dudes who would've thrown a goddamn fit the moment anyone criticizes their issues, let alone see companies actually listen to critics and try to do better by their audiences.

People are generally defensive when you call something they like problematic. Problematic generally means that you wish for that that thing they like go away. And generally that is when people get upset..Add to the fact that in this case, the thing that is problematic (Mika) has not been around for over a decade and here are people stating that this thing should have been heavily altered or worse not exist at all... The defensiveness is to be expected.

Especially since those they are defensive against generally either outright calls them names or not so subtly have this air of superiority about them..so it is a shit show all around.

There will be no discussion until both sides have any respect for the other. One side has to stop calling the other prudes or whatever because they do not like fanservice heavy characters and also stop trying to justify it beyond "yeah she is sexy...and?" and the other needs to realize that just because someone disagrees with you it does not make them a manbaby and calling them names (either intentionally or unknowingly) does nothing for your debate but make you come off as a self righteous tool.

Fan service doesn't necessarily equate to a good game. Most of the time it's the opposite. I don't have an issue with R. Mika's moveset, but she is a terribly designed character, just like Viper (who looks like a KOF reject). Rufus, Viper and R. Mika are some of the worst character designs in any Street Fighter game.

I actually don't see what's wrong with these two. I used to do martial arts and under the gi, the female practitioners would wear something like a sports bra, and that's what Makoto is basically wearing. Gi tops get loose extremely easy, especially when sparring or any grappling happens. There are women who jog in sports bras, so it being seen under a gi top isn't something out there. I don't see what the actual problem is since it is something I see firsthand.

With spats under a uniform, isn't that what a lot of dress codes for private schools do? I know my niece just started her school and she has to wear shorts under her skirt. Spats are just black shorts. Not only that, but spats can be worn without the skirt (not in school though, I just mean in general).

I mean, she's basically like a woman from a Dead or Alive or Soul Calibur game shoved into Street Fighter. I know that she's a wrestler, and I know that wrestling girls are supposed to be exploitative, but that doesn't make it any less exploitative.

She's a character designed from the ground up to appeal to the male gaze, which is where most of her support from over the years has come from. Almost no one who wanted this character back over the years was hyped about her moveset, they mostly just talked about her ass, but when you tell them as much they try to argue what a well thought out character she is.

I don't mind scantily clad characters in video games, but let's not act like Mika is anything more than transparent fan-service. No one playing Soul Calibur is pretending Ivy is anything more than she appears, so the same should apply here. Mika is just another E cupped, huge hipped, tiny-waisted fighting game girl, so the support she is getting from people who normally come down on that sort of thing is confusing.

I consider myself a feminist and I don't like her, nor I understand how she is an empowering character. But to each their own, I guess.

I'll be in the minority here and totally agree with both OP and you in terms of who she is as a character and her design. She's a dumb character with a dumb gimmick who is purely fan service, and I despise fan service......that being said she honestly does look fun as hell to play. Even my wife thinks so and she's pretty hardcore against these kinds of fighting game designs. I don't know, I wish she wasn't designed to be pure smut, but at the end of the day a fun fighter's a fun fighter. I'm willing to bet there will be an alternate for her that is somewhat less revealing, so there's that I guess.

it doesn't count because it effects more than just breasts...and only on one side. If they truly meant for it...it would be on both sides and effect more than just breast. The actual jiggle physics ingame is actually pretty subtle and well done.

they simply have other things worth fixing

I mean yeah the character is fanservicey..but there have been multiple people within many threads that has stated that they do not find the character sexy (some even hate the design) but are still hype to play her...because she looks fun.

The stunner and Dead lift press are pure Bad Ass.

The costume is the same as the original. And its as horrible now as it was then. No, its... Its worse now than it was then.

Its cartoon boobies and ass, and it is cringe worthy. Horribly cringe worthy. I've seen Lingerie that conceal more.
