Assassin's Creed: Valhalla Patch Tomorrow - Fixes XSX Screen Tearing, Adds Next-Gen 30fps Quality Mode

Lots of system warriors in a thread about a multi-platform game patch that updates the game across three platforms.

XSX version seems to run about the same as the PS5 one does now. Tears in the same spots the PS5 one does.
Seems like having more drastic resolution drops too.

They basically did the DF guessed solution.

By design should go to half of XSX and PS5 resolution so 720p in worse case scenario. That's probably why default setting is 30fps.
The XSS is already dropping to just above 1080p at 30fps, with fewer effects.

If performance mode jist doubles the frame rate by halving resolution, it would be hitting 560p, not 720p

To me, the quality 30fps mode doesn't feel like a smooth 30fps on PS5, I played Spider-Man miles in fidelity mode and it still felt smooth to me...

Is there a framepacing issue or something?

Don't pass gaas, it is your Destiny!
Played for a few hours this morning, there is still screen tearing is Xbox series x version but mostly in the cutscenes. I did see it once in the game world though.

hope get this stuff fixed, it’s distracting.

Spider-Man has really nice motion blur that helps a lot, but the 30 FPS mode still feels terrible if you use it back to back with the 60 FPS mode

I tried both, 30 FPS felt fine to me, no issues.

What's crazy about the 30pfs mode everything is 30pfs even the press A screen.

Maybe that's what I'm noticing?

At least devs are giving us options, Spider man is fine to me at 30, this game ain't. I will just keep playing this at 60

DF are devs experts on this consoles to suggest solutions to the devs? No, they only a guys talking about games, not devs experts in development of games at the top level. So their suggestions are nothing.

Did you check the new version of Valhalla in series X, because Im doing and I didn´t notice the drop in resolution in 60fps mode.

I´m very bored about the PS5/Xbox fanboys with stupids avatars

I'll wait for DF to have another look at it. You can't trust random forum impressions at all. People swore up and down for months that Red Dead 2 was downgraded in later patches but DF found zero evidence.

Played another hour or so on XSX and saw maybe 4 or 5 torn frames the whole time so it's way better now.

Torch is perfect now - tried outside in big towns, inside houses, inside caves and no noticeable drops while before I just never used the torch as it tanked the frame rate so far (felt like a 10-20fps drop).

Again super unscientific but stood indoors in a room with no light source (probably best case scenario for hitting 60fps at max res) then took the torch out and couldn't see any noticeable drop in res - if it was still tanking the frame rate to 40-45fps like before you would think the dynamic res would really have to drop to a noticeable degree to keep it at 60fps. Maybe the torch was a bug which is now fixed? If the res has been lowered across the board I certainly can't tell.

Tried 30fps mode and it is hard to play after 60fps. It does look very clean so probably native 4k but definitely not worth it imo. You can't toggle between the two modes and it doesn't let me take screenshots for some reason so I can't compare the draw distance etc so can't really comment there.

Resolution is same (or I don't see difference) with one exception. That may be my brain but I think torch is not only not dropping frames but also resolution with it equiped is higher than before patch.

Judder? Looks like they switched from adaptive Vsync to full Vsync and slightly more aggressive scaling of the resolution.

EDIT: I guess adaptive Vsync is still there based on some reports.

If the hardware can't run the game at 60fps and drops to 40fps, the fix is to reduce the resolution so frames don't drop.

I bet that's what Ubi did.

Was hoping the patch would bring quick resume back. What a half arsed feature that is!

I was disappointed when I saw it missing too, did Ubi say why they removed it?

I haven't played post patch yet but I'm glad to see most folks saying the tearing is better, it was pretty distracting.

I've played it for 44 hours on XSX. I have a PS5 but in the UK so the XSX version was first and I bought it there.

The screen tearing wasn't great but the hit to the resolution in 60fps mode is quiet a hit. Think I preferred the screen tearing to a blurry game.

The resolution mode is fine and the choppiness isn't so bad but still feel I've taken a hit on either choice tbh.

I'm more annoyed that I'm still unable to turn my quest in to Reda and thus buy any of his gear. Just completely no "talk to" icon.

Also annoyed that MS made such a big deal about QR and it still isn't working. It previously worked on AC V but that feature is still MIA.

Game seems to look better on PC after the patch. But.....5 minutes into the game after patch and the game freezes. Really glad I only paid $15 for Ubisoft+ for this crap.

And this is why for the most part, I game on consoles, got tired of that crap.

What a nice patch Ubi. Changed nothing. Now I cant even get into the main menu anymore since theres infinte loading during start up. ubisoft are really just talentless hacks.

Hopefully it goes down 1200p instead of 1080p from the 1440p before. If u feel its blurry it might be 1080p though

So I’m guessing ps5 is still the place to play Valhalla?

Of course it is, with the better res (even more now that xsx res was dropped further to remove tearing).

It's the place to play any game actually due to the superiority of dualsense for immersion. It's hard to go back from those haptics and triggers.

Performance should stay better on PS5 versions too.

I though res dropped only in Serie S, Serie X also got res drop?

I've already had three crashes on base PS4, fuck this shit Ubisoft quality control.

Sorry to hear that.
But I'm glad that people are still reporting their experiences from the 8th gen consoles.
If you listen to the gaming media, it's like none of these games were released on XBO/PS4.

Argh, the patch still didn't fix the Daughter of Lerion encounter bug

Probably the most bugged AC since Unity

I had a bug on "Blood from a stone" quest were i could not move a movable object to proceed to the quest marker

Found a work around.

Find a random body and toss it at the unmovable object. It moves an inch each time. 30 toss later of some dudes corpse and the object was moved LOL.

SO many bugs.

Man, the Sony Warbots never stop.

Atmos is factually inferior to Tempest (less source points).

The 3d sound with headsets on Demon's Souls is one gen ahead of anything on Xbox. When the dragon flies over you, I never heard anything more impressive in any video game.

*sniffs*

I smell an agenda.

Take a day off from warring, bro. Everything is okay.

The audio on XsX games has been getting lots of praise from places like DF too.

This is a rare occurrence on a AAA title in my experience, frankly. This is the first game-breaking problem I've had on my PC in quite some time. Thankfully I only paid $15 to play Watch Dogs Legion and Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Not an option on consoles so obviously there are trade-offs to each. I'll resubscribe to Ubisoft+ after I'm done with Cyberpunk 2077 and hopefully the problems will be ironed out.

In the meantime, I've get to shop for bargains on the Autumn Steam Sale. Console only gaming feels far too restrictive to me.

Game is unplayable now, I've beaten the same quest twice now and it crashes then reloads right at the start of the quest. Won't let me save either.

Trying to wade through the console warrior nonsense in this thread but the muck is pretty thick.

Hopefully they fixed the tearing on both consoles and the frame drops in performance mode on XsX.

But it also sounds like a lot of the pretty big bugs haven’t been addressed, which is a shame.

Wonder if someone can give impressions on the PS5/XSX quality modes; how much better does it look? Don’t think I’ll be giving up 60FPS unless the difference is monumental (which is unlikely).
