Players are complaining about visual problems in the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demo

Its not unplayable just a bit surprising, when I first booted it up it reminded me on the first game with the aggressive dynamic res scaling on the PC version.

It's a demo

It's a demo but it's also a performance mode which is visually compromised by default. If the game could run at 60fps with the graphical quality of the 30fps mode there wouldn't be any need to give options.

In graphics mode the game overall looks fantastic, obviously there is the lower polygon asset or lower quality texture if you want to find it but that's kinda pointless in the full picture.
They won't have every single asset at full quality, their design approch is not to have a lower but uniform asset quality everywhere but to try to balance super high quality assets with lower quality stuff they try to hide.
Most of the time it works but if you focus on certain details you will find the odd looking elements.
Just like the original on PS4 had some super awkward elements (the infamous pixelated door, the low res skybox, the low res textures on the debris, the unidentified meat blob in some restaurants "pie_tears_joy: ).

I wouldn't play this in performance mode until there's more powerful hardware like the PS5 Pro available.

Oh, I thought it was coming in may?

Must have got confused
It said not before May 29th, not it was being released in May although I guess it's possible.

Ps5 remake/integrade was 6 months before the pc version and the trailer said exclusive for 6 months.

Umm It's a demo. Not the final product.

Can people at least wait until these problems appear in the final product before freaking out?

Well, It's Gaf.

According to players, most of these problems occur mainly when the game has been selected to run in performance mode, which offers 60 FPS.

In this mode, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's resolution drops drastically in order for the game to maintain its frame rate (60 FPS). Many believed that the visual problems were due to the low resolution, but it seems that the problem is more serious than it seems, according to John Linneman of Digital Foundry.

Performance mode sucks yet again. Shocking.

Almost as if console are meant for 30fps gameplay.

You are not going to get good looking 60fps games mid gen unless they have ZERO ambition and water everything down in the game.

Devs are not talented enough to hit 60 and make it look good.

But you stubborn framerate warriors will never learn.

I hope performance mode runs at 480i with pop in and graphical glitches.

There's no reason to hope, resolution mode shares most of the issues. It just looks sharper so you can notice them even easier.

I don't know what the fuck you are talking about. This game had bad graphics even in quality mode.

And its significantly worse in every aspect at 60. Had they simply ignroed the stupid performance mode, they would have been able to make the game much prettier AND smoother all around in a proper 30fps mode. You know, how they used to do it in every gen previous. This performance mode garbage is the root issue of such bad perfoming, undercooked, underpolished games as of late

Oof, the “Door” Strikes Back!

Seriously though, WTF at how bad some of this looks.

Edit: Every time people go “it’s just a demo”, released game inevitably carries over the same issues. Game releases in a few weeks. This will be likely in game.

And SE is notoriously slow at patching things up. Fingers crossed that by the time PC releases comes about it will be fixed.

I mean I played FFVII R and FFXVI on performance mode and no issues. Sure there's the drop in res and sometimes noticable frame drops, but some (like me) prefer higher fps. Especially coming from PC.. with 30 on consoles that come with their own sets of latency. That just feels much more sluggish to play.

About these screenshots. Looks like texture streaming issues to me. Hopefully won't appear on retail copies on launch.

Came here to post this but you nailed it.

You 60fps geeks need to fucking go. They need to stop catering to you idiots

Performance mode has nothing to do with it, they have problems with this engine (and themselves) - initial PS4 release of Remake was the same with many shit textures and guess what? Game didn't have any 60fps mode, only 30fps.

My biggest complaint it that the companions frequently float around in their movement and will randomly teleport to you. Very distracting.

PS5s will be ashamed of running this game.

And no. Popin and bad textures are also present in graphics mode. In the graphics department, this game cannot be saved.
Not true if played the whole demo in graphics on my 4k HDR10 tv almost no popin only a few times , no bad textures not once. "This game cannot be saved" Please stop the drama...😉

Demo in performance looks like shit no doubt but the game is still a masterpiece and will achieve 90+.

On a technical level sure it's awful compared to the Big boys.

Wat ? People are “overreacting” because they are expecting better quality for a game like this on PS5, and they are right.

People are happily pay 30 to 60 bucks for early access titles that might never be even feature complete and excuse those devs with the game is not done. And some of the very same people are happily go after specific devs before the game is even out. Yes the sqaure enix hate is quite heavily a thing.

I stand by what i say "this game can not be saved" is pure drama....😏its a demo from an early build for God sake....
I already debunked the 'it's a demo' rethoric. Feel free to check the post.

And, my words were, "IN THE GRAPHICS DEPARTMENT this game cannot be saved", meaning that there's no valid excuse for the presentation being this bad being a PS5 game, no matter if the game is great or not.

Some of you just dont have an eye for those things.

I was on the fence about waiting for the PC version and went ahead and pre-ordered on PlayStation.
It's a bit frustrating how long it takes them to get the games out on PC. I wish they would pay someone to port it if they don't have the resources to do it themselves.
I played the original FF7 Remake on PS5 (never touched it on PC) and it was fine in performance mode. If it's like that, I don't mind at all.

Having an RTX 4090 and having to play a game on a PS5 is a kick in the balls.

Played it quality. It's fine. Looks great. People are nitpicking. Gotta have muh 60 fps on a four year old console that was underpowered on release.
People going out of their way to post this shite are trying to attack the game for some other reason. Just wait for a PC version.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
2-3 years? never, maybe 6-8 months max.

I'm not just talking about updating from UE4 to UE5, I meant a proper game built from ground on UE5 and possibly utilizing its native features (Nanite specifically, for the draw-in issues).

Is it ok to want a locked 40fps in a quality mode?

Hungry Food GIF

Well not everyone has a 120hz TV but yes for me this is the way to go. 40fps feels amazing in Forspoken, which by the way eventually looked far better than the demo did. It also feels good in Horizon. Generally in terms of gameplay it feels closer to 60fps, than to 30.

I was disappointed FFXVI didn't have it, and now Rebirth doesn't have it either.

When will people learn.

We're in the 30fps years now, sometimes 40 (good GOD quality modes at 40 are incredible).

You're not going to keep getting visual improvements at comparable settings. Adapt. Join me in 30fps land.

Come Here Homer Simpson GIF by Sappy Seals

Framerate target has nothing to do with anything, game could be 15FPS and still look like that, framerate needs GPU and CPU resources. Textures pretty much only need Video memory and they have at least 13GB (and fast storage) on PS5, yet their game has PS3 quality textures and materials AT BEST.

Look what even PS4 could do (with 5GB of memory):

Even FFXV had better textures most of the time:
