Marvel’s “Eternals” Reviews Are In; if you like Thor : The Dark World then you’ll love this!

I still need to watch Shang-Chi, Loki, and Wandervision. At least they loo promising.

Spiderman is pretty good, though I'm not a fan of the whole adolescent thing. Black Panther was okay. It played to a certain crowd and then was hyped up by them far too much though.

I thought Loki was excellent. Very funny if you like the Character and easily film quality. I passed on Wanda after reading the reactions here. Had no interest in investing that much time into something that people seemed to mostly dislike.

wandavision is fun. It’s just it takes to long to get interesting. Ending is nutts.

Might give it a shot when bored, just read the reactions as it was airing. I like the character as well but am pretty spoiled by the thread I read.

Well it is winter so guess I have plenty more time!

In regards to the diversity complaints here... What is it about the diversity that impairs the movie, in your opinions?

A lot of the damage is done in production. D becomes the goal instead of making an entertaining movie. a showcase for select groups from amongst a multitude in the world. and when a studio put themselves in that position it will have a difficult time in supervision and managing quality. this is happening so often that it deflates the interests of the audience.

Scroll up. A couple of posters are posting open spoilers from the movie. I had to scroll awayfast because I haven't seen it yet.
Yeah don’t see it. The hitting the kid with a rock? Wow major spoiler?

See... That still makes no sense. The CASTING of a diverse group has no bearing on the story or script. That stuff was done BEFORE casting.

Whenever I see any complaints about diversity, I doubt the sincerity behind it...

Some of the more diverse movies I've seen have been Wonderful movies. Because the story mattered.

And the diversity makes sense to me... If you're an alien species that wants to introduce god-like protectors... Wouldn't they be surface-level diverse? Globally, white people are the minority. So it makes sense to me.

Casting is not the issue here. the Eternals are naturally diverse based on their story. the issue is prioritizing the whole production and reshaping the story to follow the modern narrative of a bubble culture. so the priority to entertain is superseded by the desire to preach. this was the messaging since the reveal of the crew. some fans were trolling the production since day1. but they have been trolling almost everything. but many others were just waiting and hoping for something good and only reacted after watching it.

So I take it you haven't even seen it, right?

You're talking about "preaching" and whatnot when I doubt that's what is even in it! At least the non-spoiler reviews I've listened to haven't talked about some ham-fisted sjw crap in this movie. They're freaking aliens! Not humans. And the comics Eternals was pretty much all white .. I think only Phastos is questionable regarding skin color.

And those lamenting about the Eternals not looking like the comics ... Before this movie was announced or we got a trailer... Hardly anyone in this forum knew who they were. Which, I think, is the point.

Best part of the movie was the last after credit scene when I fount out who the guy off screen that was talking was.

B is the lowest?

Tf did Thor 2 get then lmao

This movie is much better than that, Captain Marvel, both Ant Mans and even Cap 1.

Fans are weird bunch sometimes. Ah well. I quite liked it to each their own.

I don't see how diversity is any cause of a problem with this. According to people who actually care about obscure 70s comic books, the cast in the comic were totally bland and unmemorable and also trudged through a forgettable plot. Even very weak differentiations such as giving one of them a limp and another an eye patch would be an improvement on the original. The issue is, according to them, the comics were saved by Jack Kirby's absolutely insane psychedelic art style. Rather than go with this, the director tried to copy Denis Villeneuve's work on Dune and released her blessed film at the same gosh darned time as Dune, when people had just seen the real thing.

We can only hope that Feige and friends have a deep debrief into this mess and course correct. Phase 4 for me has been pretty disappointing. I knew it wouldn't be as good as Phase3 because they had to reset post Endgame, but on a binary 1 or 0 scale my rating so far is:

Black Widow - 0
WandaVision - 1
Loki - 1
FaTWS - 0
What If - 1
Shang Chi - 1
Eternals - 0

Even something that I liked (i.e. What If) had some subpar episodes.

Eternals, has to raise some alarms over there with a B cinemascore (lower than pretty much all superhero movies except those awful early 2000 ones), 48% RT score, a significantly lower opening at the BO (it was originally predicted at 100MM+), and other all time low metrics for MS. Hopefully they take the right lessons from this mess.

EDIT: I should also say that I'm not sure Feige is free from taking some of the blame here. Even with Chapek stepping in for Iger and messing with the flow Feige still allowed Fake Taskmaster in BW, preachy political agenda in FaTWS, and a lot of issues with Eternals that he could have vetoed/changed direction.

Fuck, this movie is terrible. I was literally bored throughout the whole film. All these action scenes didn't have any sense of weight at all. This is the type of movie you want to stream and not go to the theatres for and I watched it in IMAX.

The film was crap, boring and uninteresting, defiantly the worst Marvel film.

Way too long, 30 mins of that could easily be cut, too many talking parts between the dull characters.

These superhero teams movies have to have engaging and interesting characters if they want the audience to accept them, you can get away with it in Avengers films because we know the characters well from the solo films.

Here… you have to rely on the start of the film being interesting and an exciting introduction to these characters for the audience to have an interest in them and sadly they’re too bland.

Story jumps like a flea, so many places in time, lots of the dialog parts are boring because that characters are so bland.

At times it felt like a DC film than Marvel, utter crap.

Don’t waste your time going to the cinema, wait till it comes to Disney+ even then just skip to end credits scenes, there’re the most interesting parts of the film

Just saw it... It was GREAT! It wasn't a typical Marvel film and it felt more like something grander. Obviously movies are subjective so ... But I liked it! And

The Black Knight is coming! The ebony blade! And FREAKING BLADE!

No weight? And yet

Two of the characters died from the Deviants... Sure... No weight. You just weren't paying attention. LoL

I think his and most people issue was I felt nothing when they died.
Ajax had like no screen time even with flash backs.
To much jumping around and not enough chronological times showing a more steady progression of all the wars, and atrocities having long lasting effects to show us the audience can relate/connect with their journey as they self realize the lie that is their mission.

ETERNALS even in comics are boring and it’s more ire less Kirby’s trippy art work and celestial stuff that you pay attention to.
There’s a lot of comic reviewers I’ve watched saying that ETERNALS would be hard to do on screen since ETERNALS are not that popular in comics.

Just came back from the film.

That was pretty boring, I fell asleep midway like I did with Star Wars and Logan. It felt like it tried to be anything but a comic book film and I absolutely hate that when I just want some fun. It was an hour longer than it needed to be and Angelina Jolie just can't act. I had more fun spending half the film wondering if this was Wong's origin story or something cause that actor is a straight up doppelganger.

I hope Spider-Man is back to the usual fair, so far Phase 4 has been mixed with only Shang-Chi being enjoyable.

Just saw it and it was great

Imagine reviewing this so bad in a universe that has iron man 2, Thor 1 and 2, Ultron, Ant Man 1 and 2, Captain marvel, Black Widow etc.

People saying some events didn't have much weight because we've only seen these characters in one movie. I mean if we do this that's literally what happens in most movies? You don't need 10 movies and 2 TV shows to feel connected to characters.

Just got back from it... god that was bad. Its for sure in the bottom five of all MCU films, in fact I'd call it the worst just for all the talent it wasted on screen. I'll collect my thoughts and share them soon. But to summarize: Incredibly poorly paced, so much so it was actually boring, the Deviant story was a complete waste and pointless (as were half the characters), and the ending felt like a huge WTF moment with the Celestial just appearing right in the sky. (likely to be only briefly ever mentioned again the mcu and forgetten) God it was so bad.

When the characters are presented as gods without flaws then yes you need to expand on what they are going through emotionally so the audience can connect.

I felt nothing, Jolie with here scattered memories was to me the one thing that stood out. And I felt that should have been the focus in showing different timelines where she lost control or maybe show the audience what she sees when she loses it.

Exactly!

Two characters died and you felt something for Gilgamesh... Because you saw how he was with Thena. He was a diehard protector ...

But the Eternals will return... The end credits and end title card let us know that.

Also, why did they have to spend 5 minutes on a kiss scene? Had to have had a better scene in mind than that.

Without flaws? Did you see that plot twist? And plenty other parts of the movie. They are characters with
flaws, doubts, that make mistakes.

I agree with you about Jolie though. Thena was the best of the movie and

fortunately she survived. Seems like she's playing a big role in the future. She also had one of the best fights and character development of the movie.

The movie had an almost impossible task to present us with 10 new characters to connect with us and that's a tough task. That's almost like starting the MCU with an avengers movie. They wanted to skip the step of having an individual movie for each one as it wouldn't make much sense here and I really don't think they could've done a better job giving the nature of the movie. Fortunately

there's only like 6 of them now so whatever they do next it's going to make that task easier.

I'm sorry but the standout fighter to me was Makkari. She is the FLASH almost! Definitely faster than MCU quicksilver... Her fight with

Ikarus

Was DOPE! And

Phastos showing why he isn't to be trifled with...

I definitely see Zhao's inspiration from Zack In some parts but better execution of emotional moments save for how Cyborg was handled in ZSJL.

Just got back from it a few hours ago myself. It's a pretty good film. It's not great but it's definitely not bad or the worst either. It's really nice looking and overall I really like the broad strokes that the story is trying to tell. There's some amazing shots that showed real scale in this too. I also surprisingly liked the action and use of powers. However, I felt like transitioning between the past and the present could have been done smoother. There's also way too many characters to be focusing on them individually and I think the movie would have benefited from pairing them off as a part of tale. The movie showed each of their personalities well when they were bouncing off each other so they should have focused on that. It also would have better highlighted each of their own viewpoints on humanity and how they approached their lives. Having them clash on this front would have made for a far more interesting film on the whole.

5 mins on which kiss scene?
he's exaggerating but It sure did feel like it, in my mind I kept screaming "cut to the next scene... now... now.... now? OMG fucking cut the scene!" This is a major issue for the film, it was too full of itself and its scenes, it needs a hard cutting down and restructuring. But seriously thats all just a nitpick, the real issue is the Deviants having NO REASON TO BE IN THE MOVIE AT ALL. Remove them and you'd still have the same story with more time to build it up. The only reason they were used in the film was to give Thene a reason for even existing and to have a "revenge" scene.

Honestly the main criticism for me?

The main couple was boring. Didn't care for them one bit. And Sersei is boring as a main character.
Angelina could be sitting right there without saying a word and she just outshined whatever was going on and that was hilarious to me.
