In all honesty it sucks that Japan went through in such a lame way after talking trash before the match.
They cocky and talked shit and then won on a blown-call PK and then a freak-accident own goal. Fuck 'em.

The guys who charge onto the pitch to get the best view of a girl who's own goal has just put her country out of the world cup in the semi final? Can't help but have respect - they'll have a late night editing to sell the best shot of her teary face to papers in the morning.
You want them to just ignore the girl who scored an own goal in injury time to put her team out of the world cup? Come on guy.

Cheer up, England national team...at least now you can go home to your awful weather and shit food!

Love the English weather at the moment. No tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes or blizzards either.

I guess pretty much everyone will no go back to Wimbledon and the Pimms. Not sure how much this has really done for the women's game here.

Who cares? It's part of the game. England wouldn't have scored if the Canadian player Sesselman didn't fall down and basically hand deliver goal to England early. Now they did an own goal. Just shows the ineptitude of the English team I guess. Who cares. Japan is facing US now. Don't be a sore loser.

Salt is real :)

mixed emotions! i'm from england but japan is my home, and i was going for japan this match. but that's not a great way to win.

hopefully the US will get taken apart in a more honourable manner this weekend.

Lol, don't be a sore loser, I'm not even English.
I just like seeing shittalkers get their comeuppance.

Aaaaaaaaaaaand now the 4-year long revenge has reached its peak! Get ready American fans! Its the match up we have been anticpating - USA vs Japan...AGAIN! USA! USA! Time to get revenge!

Japan, as I said yesterday, has been relatively unimpressive. If the USA plays like they did yesterday, it's going to be an easy win. England legit controlled the game... This doesn't bode well for Japan.

I bet you will still be talking of a phantom team winning against Japan when they have the cup in their hands, i really feel sorry for the team. A team can manage to get to the finals and people will still be harping about how unimpressive they are.

People will just go back to not caring I think
People have starting caring about the women's game in the UK a lot more in the last few years following the Olympics and the coverage of the domestic game on BT Sport and more national team coverage on BBC.

I think you underestimate how helpful this world cup will have been for boosting the profile of the women's game on top of that.

LOL, sure. If you like seeing shittalkers get their comeuppance, it doesn't seem like they got it here huh? England is out and Japan moves on, doesn't matter how.

English fans: Y'all are welcome to contribute to the spirit bomb that we've been amassing for this matchup against Japan.

Quite a few salty Canadians in here tonight.

I am very salty I admit it.

I feel bad for the girl though. Really heartbreaking stuff. But considering we blew the quarter final game on similarly pathetic defensive display, it is a bit satisfying. I knew England would outplay Japan though. USA got this in the bag.

U.S has only looked good one game and that was yesterdays. This was Japan first bad match

Great words from the English coach and players.

It was also the first time Jill Ellis made a good decision. If she has any left in her, Sunday might be interesting.

If she continues to play everyone out of position and start Wambach, probably not.

I'm just stating facts here. Japan has had the easiest path to the final of all contenders and they have struggled against above average teams like England and Australia. Their offense is just not producing and this will be their downfall. Don't count on the US to score an own goal or commit a massive blunder defensively.

I hope Japan shows up in the final because as it stands, if it doesn't, the game will probably be over shortly after the half.

Perhaps. I just don't know anyone who's really following. Friends and people at work don't seem that aware of until this week. It would have been nice for anyone who stayed up to see a proper goal in one of the semi finals. It would be a real anticlimax if the final goes this way as well.

Easy to look good against Switzerland, Ecuador and Cameroon...

They have looked average against Australia and downright shaky at times today. Momentum is definitely on the US's side at the moment. Peaking at the right time.

Just an unreal turn of events. Stunning, stunning stuff. Props to Mark Sampson for that post match interview. Very kind words about Bassett.

Japan hasn't been that impressive imo. Not to say I do not think they are good but they haven't put together anything magnificent in terms of a total performance. They have just played opponents they were clearly better than. This was their first real test and they were not up to par. England was better, it wasn't just Japan playing poorly. The states have also been mediocre as a total but in their first true test yesterday they played well.

This is my take. I see the US winning the final. But it wont be by more than a goal. But they'll win.

Ouch, England. Such a heartbreaking way to lose the game. :(

I hope U.S. can get some WWC payback over Japan. Just... this time, let's not let it go to PKs. Please?

I think USA should beat Japan as Japan has no pace at all. If they did the pressing game again (like how they played vs China) they will interrupt Japan's flow and control the game with their athleticism.

But then, the same thing pretty much happened last final but USA slipped and lost an equalizer, then a wonder flick from Sawa and three miss penalty sent the US home.

come on, both japan's goals today were the result of incisive play that cut england open and forced them into mistakes. japan has been easily the most technically accomplished team this tournament — the US were no less mediocre until they came alive against germany, which seems to have been a deliberate strategy.

the final should be great.

If that was for Pearl Harbour then what the fuck was Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

It staggers me how people are still alive from WWII but they've already forgotten the lessons we were supposed to have learned.

And to give Japan credit, the last counter was beautifully done. The cross is excellent and a real scoring chance even if Laura Bassett didn't bury it.
