Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 (PS4/PS Vita) coming out on Feb. 25

uh huh... right...

I'd agree that she acts more serious than some of the older girls (especially Tina)... older though? Absolutely not.

Yes picture's of people, with some form of d.o.b. would suffice. If it's anywhere near as common as you claim, this should be simple.. Marie Rose was voted #1 in all territories right... so there should probably be quite a few celebrities you can use.

As for the bolded... yea, that would be a pretty standard reason to not want to browse a DOAX thread at work. The addition of Marie Rose though, adds a new consideration that you clearly detailed in your previous post. Here:

Ok you win Sherlock.

Do we have an idea of what we would be could potentially be missing out on by only getting one version or the other? I am only planning on picking up for PS4.

You will miss out on the touch-related features on the Vita. Other than that, I doubt there will be anything significant that you will miss out by buying only PS4 version. The first print edition of Vita version is suppose to have a special swimsuit for Honoka, so you will miss that out as well. But I assume they will make it available as paid DLC later on.

Let's try this:
Chinese Mangaka Xià Dá

Q: How old was she when this picture was taken?
A:
28

I don't see what this proves, or the picture of Knives Chau. first off, movie stars are often made up to look younger and she doesn't look like a mid-pubescent teen.

Second, the image of that Japanese girl, what is your point? There is tonnes of porn in japan made to appeal to people who want to see <18 year old girls, but where the actresses are older than 18. This proves nothing.

Marie Rose is CLEARLY designed to appeal to people who are attracted to 14 year olds. Debating if she looks or does not look her age is irrelevant.

To be quite fair the only characters who act mature on the female side is just consisting of Christie,Misty, sometimes Ayane,Momiji,Lisa,Raechel and Helena. Lei Fang is one of the older one and she and Hitomi still act like school girls, Kokoro is at times oblivious, Marie is a funny one because part of it is an act but if you ever seen what she says in her attacks and how she reacts to some characters she's interesting. She is one of the few characters who will activly say "Die" "Are you going to get up" Then she has full troll mode of "Lalalala" and "Wow your's enormous" Taunt battles with Marie, Tina and Nyo Tengu are the best.

Then you have Nyo Tengu who acts like Kstoute's wife and is just laughing at stuff and Troling Ayane and looking for Tommy for killing Kstoute.

Knives does look young, but not 13, she was meant to look about 16-17 and does.
so you are saying knives looks 16-17, but Marie looks 13? Marie features look exactly as old as ellen does there. The real difference is the art style in DOA gives every character incredibly smooth doll like skin

Many of the characters act silly or ditzy (Lei-Fang being another prime example), this is a separate character trait from maturity though. I'm not in anyway oblivious to anything regarding Dead or Alive. I've being playing the games since the original arcade release of DOA1. The characters are very often non-serious. But Marie Rose (and to a lesser extent Honoka) is the only character that actually acts like a child. Even children are serious/angry at times. That doesn't make them mature (in fact the belief that serious = mature is a rather childish one, lol). Her personality is anime 101.

She really doesn't...

Blaming the rendering tech is invalid too, because it would then logically apply to every other female character (kinda like it did in Dead or Alive 2). DoA5's skin tech is more than sufficient to portray differences in age here.

People are basing popularity on a poll where you had to pay for to vote.

Which for Team Ninja, is the only kind of vote that matters for a game about to be sustained by its DLC.

But yea, I've stated loads of times that there are so many filters being applied to the group that is actually voting that the result is hardly indicative of mainstream global preferences. My favourite new character by far is Mila... did I vote for her though? No.

The actual popularity is balanced because you see most characters, males included in the streams for japanese version of DOA5LR. I see as many Lisas and Tinas as I see Honokas and Maries. In fact, as a DOA5 player myself, Honoka is still not as popular as she will be because TN hasn't fixed some things in her gameplay that need adjustments.

For those salty about your character not being in, it will be DLC and if their trail is like DOA5, you can get them and pay much less than most people just buying them.

They voted with their wallets.

Seems valid enough.

It's valid in terms of where Team Ninja allocates their resources.

It's not really valid as a popularity metric. It's more of a measure of how passionate each character's fanbase is. Shenmue III got funded because the fanbase is passionate. Not because it's big.

I don't think anyone suggested that.

It's been implied numerous times (specifically how Marie Rose is tops in countries other than Japan, whilst other characters wouldn't have made it regardless). Not in this thread, but in others.

I wonder how much the one character starter pack will cost. Not interested in the full game but I'm in if I can get a Nyotengu version for cheap.

I hope that Tecmo at least includes everyone else as time-unlocked free DLC, like Capcom is doing with SF5. They can charge whatever for the outfits.

The whole idea that I'm going to have to pay extra for characters I actually like just reeks of horseshit. 90% of my hours with DoAX1&2 were spent playing as Lisa & Tina. But now they're considered niche.

Everything sucks.

Hmm..That could work out.

That sounds great then, as I don't really care about touch controls or exclusive outfits (that will be dlc later) all that much.

Some of the earlier comments were implying Marie/Honoka would only be in one or the other.

Just some extra info regarding DLCs. Sorry if this has been posted.

. First print bonus DLCs (Marie's Little Devil Swimsuit for PS4, Honoka's Angel Swimsuit for Vita) are cross-compatible.
. Extreme Sexy Costume DLCs (F Set for PS4 Collector's Edition, V Set for Vita Collector's Edition) are cross-compatible.
. Extreme Sexy Costume DLCs will be sold on PS Store at a later date.
. The swimsuit/costume DLCs included in PS4 and Vita versions each come in different design and pattern.

Man, Honoka makes Kasumi look so old and busted now. Honoka and Marie Rose really should be the main protagonists of the series going forward.
search

Of course you can have your opinion, I just disagree with you.
Kasumi is a much more interesting character than Marie Rose.

Is it me or with the exception of Marie Rose, every other DoA girl has the same exact body type just with different skin color? Even the size of the boobs I don't see any difference except Honoka's humongous tits. Maybe that was a factor for Marie being so popular, she's the most different looking girl in the game.

Of course it could also be that she looks 13 and the second most popular (Honoka) acts like a 13 year old. Coincidence?

Arguments about marie rose...
Certain peoples views of her will not change, regardless of what you say.
When I lived in Japan I worked with many girls ages 16 to 20 who looked very similar in age, so I don't think it's weird personally.
But these discussions will continue everytime there is a DOA thread.
Looks like Play-Asia wants 400$ for the fancy version. Any sites out there more reasonable? This will be the 2nd game I've imported, so I don't know many sites to look at.
Because the game is exclusive to amazon and gamecity, I imagine the only way play-asia is getting theirs is by reselling it, so naturally for that to be worthwhile they will charge a premium. I don't imagine other sites will be much different if they even have the product.
I wish Amazon.co.jp had international shipping, getting it through other routes is providing some extra pain and I really want that Saikou package now...

Being Amazon and Gamecity deal I doubt we'll see it in that many stores outside those and possibly very limited in numbers.
The cheapest option in my opinion would be a forwarding service (tenso) where you buy off amazon and ship the product to the address they give, charge a fee, then charge shipping to you.

I know plenty of people who look younger than they actually are. It's really not that uncommon for petite Asian women tbh. It's weird how this whole "she looks so young, that doesn't happen in real life!" but these Japanese girls with JJ cups are just like whatever.

Kasumi looking old? the fuck?

I know plenty of people who look younger than they actually are. It's really not that uncommon for petite Asian women tbh.

IMO is the complete "package" that makes Marie looks so young. Body, face (I feel like her face makes her look even younger than her body, that's why Honoka even with the huge tits looks weird, like a young girl face photoshoped in a voluptuous body), emotes, costumes (just look at her DOA5 swimsuits).

I mean, I don't care about Marie (I don't mind her in DOA5 and she's actually fun to play) and it's annoying that every DOA thread ends up like that, but I think we can't deny why Marie Rose exist and what it caters to.

Shin says Kasumi and Ayane were underage in older games, that's true, and they had to change it because of the DOA:Dimensions thing. Don't you really think that, if that didn't happen, Marie would still be 18? I'm sure she would be 14-16, but they don't want to put any underage girl in their games anymore (that's why suddenly every girl is +18 now).

Your move. :p

I know that's exactly the reason of the game, but it looks like she bows 2(3?) times and too much to show her boobs.

All good and all but clothes are still glued to the skin ruining the effect.

Well I mean you aren't zoomed in that close while actually playing.

They voted with their wallets.

Seems valid enough.

It's a small sample size of a much greater population. It's not indicative of popularity. Especially since it wasn't limited to DOA fans, but anyone on PSN that wanted a half naked girl plastered on their dashboard.

The fact that 2 very popular DOA1 vets Leifang and Tina didn't make the cut vs 2 brand new characters that fill weird fetishisized tropes who are at the top (over Kasumi the face of DOA) unanimously shows how very little it had to do with popularity and fan vote among DOA fans.

How do statistics work

I get that people aren't happy with it but finding weird excuses to deny that these characters are actually popular is making you look really bad

Yes, they all do look the same and for the most part use the same base model. People were asking for a different body type and they released MR. People asked for more butts, and they released LadyTengu and Honoka.

A number of the DOA girls act 13.

Here is another popularity poll they did that wasn't by PSN votes right before Honoka came out. It isn't that different than what we have now.

2 brand new characters being the most popular characters doesn't strike you as odd?

I'm saying it was the wrong sample size. You didn't ask DOA fans who heir favorite DOA character was. You asked people to buy a theme of a girl in a bikini and used that as a poll result. The Lolita's are popular among people that bought themes for them, but that is not indicative of anything besides that.

Well, statistics usually work by making sure your sample size isn't inherently biased... which would usually include not filtering out anybody who wasn't going to pay money for a PSN theme off the Japanese store.

It's a good measure of which area of the fanbase they can pull the largest amount of money from, but that's pretty much all. And they probably didn't need a vote to determine that. Hell, they DEFINITELY didn't need a vote to determine more standard measures of character popularity, as they'd be able to simply read that data straight out of our DoA5 statistics.

Yup. This was clearly designed to squeeze money out of the segments Marie and Honoka cater to and then put the other characters as DLC. Rest assured people if you checked the actual fans Marie and Honoka would be in the middle with Mila and Rig and the top would probably be Misty, her sister the rest of the ninjas tied with Hitomi and Lei Fang then the rest.
That poll was rigged when Lei never made it. She had the best outfits in DOA always.

If you don't think MR is in the top 9 of popular DOA characters, you'd be wrong.

Because it represents less of a barrier, and so the results are less likely to be skewed? Everyone playing the game (so long as they're connected to the internet) would be voting in this scenario, versus only the segment that will pay to vote, either because they want a PSN theme, or they just care enough to do so regardless.

I've already said. The current approach is certainly more valuable data when determining which characters to include to maximise additional purchases... but that's not the same as popularity. Take everyone in this thread who's disappointed in their character not being included... ask how many voted... then ask how many have played their chosen character in DoA5.

If you don't think MR is in the top 9 of popular DOA characters, you'd be wrong.

Nobody has said that at all. I wouldn't even confidently claim that the order wouldn't end up exactly as it is now... that's not the point.

If I implied she's not in the top 10 of DOA fans I apologize she is up there because she's new and different just like Mila. Mila is up there too just don't see much play because she's not easy to use just like Marie and they will remain in the top 10-15.

What I don't get is why Hayate is up there. :p

I'm pretty sure that's not how statistics work. Just because poll has no barrier at all doesn't mean it bias free.

See this. South Korean and some Indian politician dominated times poll where basically everyone can vote (and sometimes double vote). I think TK's 'pay with your wallet' voting actually gives more valuable sample data than anything neogaf can pull off.

I'm a huge doa fan with no desire to buy a stupid theme. I'd imagine there are a lot of people like that, and that would affect the votes. .
Voting with money by buying a game is an entirely different situation than tying a vote to a static wallpaper of a polygonal woman in a swimsuit.

In terms of sample data, voting with your wallet actually does million times better than some random internet poll. I don't really care about DOA5 and who goes in, as long as there are ass and boobs, but that sample data is legit.
