I guess people wanted megatons after such a long wait. There were no megatons.

Personally I thought it was mediocre but there was enough for me to look forward to, and we shouldn't count out PlayStation-centric reveals for Summer Games Fest.

For me, the actual showcase was pretty good content-wise, but for a “PlayStation” showcase, it was disappointing. Lots of missing games, CGI of course, no release dates and worst of all……..GAAS games.

Because peoples expectations only include the games they want themselves. When those games are absent they become whiny children and downplay everything else. People fail to realize PlayStation will be at Summer Games Fest as well.

This gen Sony was mostly focusing on western games, it was just matter of time, thankfully I still got 3rd party games to enjoy.

You are all psychos. If I come out of these things with 2 more games to look forward to I feel good. I'm not sure what was supposed to happen. Didn't get to see what sucker punch was doing? Sucker punch things. I'll see that later and I'm seeing dd2 now. Ctfo.

It was a great games showcase

It was a terrible playstation showcase.

nah, I disagree

Titles like Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Street Fighter etc, those are still things people associate with PlayStation and I'd argue many of us were talking about that MGS rumor just as much as any other PS exclusive or something, so PlayStation isn't solely just about first party.

This was a solid showing to show people what is ahead to look forward to on the platform and to give teasers of upcoming games like Concord, Fairgame, Marathon etc. Anyone of those games could have been missing and some of you would literally claim that ONE GAME was suddenly going to change this event or something, when in reality you'd just complain about something else.

You telling me if MGS3 remake was not announced, that was not going to be brought up here?

Twas announced and we still have folks acting as if nothing major was announced lol Those games are going to be some of the biggest games released the year they come out.

SantaC SantaC literally caught someone editing their post complaining about the Showcase citing something about wanting to see Spiderman 2, saw the trailer and then tried to continue to complain editing the post acting as if that never happened. It proves something I've believed for some time. Gamers will cry over what isn't shown, and if it is actually shown, with search for something else to complain about....what fucking reveal would even please everyone?

I think gamers tend to exaggerate stuff like this acting as if a reveal of FFXVII, Resident Evil 9, Resident Evil CV remake, Dragon Quest XII, Octopath Traveler 3, Persona 6 and Persona remake, Yakuza 8 etc would have made the event perfect for everyone, you'd just get someone like "ok bro, but like, it wasn't a PLAYSTATION eventz" lol

but where Order 1887 doe?

Where Motorstorm remake?

do better Sony lol

We are over three years into the cycle of PS5 and you have to wonder where are the exclusives? Where are the PS5 games? Not cross-gen, not multi-platform. Where are the big Sony studios? This was a Playstation Showcase it should show off the future of this system.
When PS5 was new and we had the likes of Demon's Souls, Ratchet & Clank and Returnal. I thought it was a taste of what would become commonplace in a few years. But it hasn't really happened, and what's already there is slowly moving to PC. Meh.

It's a good console but not the second coming of PS2 or anything like that.

Yeah cause with ps2 giant developers like Rockstar could release a game every two years.....

Your expectations are BEYOND unrealistic. "2 years ago at launch we got a lot of amazing high budget games. Now its slow down". Yeah my man they have to actually take the time to make the games......

People set themselves up for disappointment.

The days of multiple AAAA megaton announcements are long gone.

AAA gaming is expensive and platforms won't blow their full production pipeline load in one single conference... (for fear they'll end up like MS with announced games still not released multiple years after the first reveal).

This means we get shows like yesterday where there are a handful of huge AAA titles, some AA, and a bunch of indies.

It's only underwhelming when you think only about what was announced and ignore what's already known to be still coming to the console in addition to the newly announced stuff, e.g. Stellar Blade, Wolverine, Pragmata, Little Devil Inside, etc etc

It wasn't bad at all. I went in with low expectations and the show exceeded them. Best showcase PlayStation has had in quite a while.

Ok so
MGS3 Remake
Dragon's Dogma 2
SPIDERMAN 2 WITH THE SYMBIOTE SUIT & NEW TRAVERSAL ABILITIES
more street fighter 6 content
Plucky squire
Beat Saber finally on psvr2
RE4 remake VR
& lot of good third party games like towers of agahsba and phantom blade 0
And according to GAF, it's somehow the worst showcase since e3 2006....
If this is the "worst" Playstation has to offer its no wonder they're selling out so fast. This is the closest I've been to outright buying one this year.
Most of the games they showed were quite good. Even the indies like Phantom Blade 0 and Towers of Aghasba looked very good!

The problem with the showcase in my opinion was (1) PlayStation Studios titles Fairgames, Concord, and Marathon didn't have any gameplay, and (2) Several PlayStation Studios that we all thought were a lock didn't appear, e.g., TLOU Factions, Twisted Metal, Bluepoint's, Horizon MP, and at least one of Ghost of Tsushima, SSM's 2nd game, Bend's new IP, etc.

phanton blade 0 did not look indie to me.

What is not being shown? Games in development that won't come out for 2-3 years? This is why I said your ps2 comparison is silly. Welcome to modern day gaming where a good product takes years and years typically.

I never said I expected PS2, but I did expect the definition of a PS5 game to change based on the opening salvo. Even remakes on the level of Demon's Souls. What about games that would come out in one year? Are you saying nothing is coming until 2-3 years? lol

Not saying PS5 is poor but at this point. I wouldn't expect the launch games to still be pulling half the weight of showing off the console. And for them to be drifting towards PC

It wasn't bad, it was just....mid. Excited for a few of those games coming out. Particularly MGS3 Remake and ports and Spider Man 2.

Youre getting MGS, Spiderman 2, Alan Wake 2, FF16, Ass Creed if you wanna count that which I guess it kinda is a "big" game. All out this year, all were shown.

Your disappointment is your own for thinking the studios that crushed the first 2 years can just churn out games like fast food.

Inability to announce / showcase unannounced products then do not throw a showcase.

This event was just Sony popping their heads up and yelling, "remember us? Well, don't forget about our games that we talked about only one month ago!"

I was talking exclusive games, and even then FF is the only one that really takes advantage of PS5 in the same way the launch games did

So I liked the look of all of these and played the previous entry in all but Dragons Dogma(I should really play the first game, it does look fantastic) so was good for me

While I loved the variety, and a lot of good games were shown, not having at least one new big budget surprise single player game from their studios was disappointing.

We all wanted to see at least one amazing 1st party game with kick ass PS5 only level graphics. Something set within the rich story driven worlds they are known for. Something that actually makes us EXCITED.

They have set this expectation for their fans. It's what sets them apart as a platform holder and why most chose to play on PlayStation in the first place. They had to know that holding back their big single player first party stuff would make fans a bit disappointed.

This was the "PlayStation Showcase". The hint is in the name. We have had no idea what Sony is planning on first party releases for a while now, with really only two confirmed games - Spider Man 2 and WOlverine.

So what did they show us? One admittedly cool looking COOP StarShip Troopers homage, 3 CGI Trailer GAAS games, and one Glorified DLC they are upselling as a sequel (at least given what they actually showed of it, which was a remarkably depressing downgrade from what they promised with the CGI trailer prior).

Yes, Third parties are cool - but as MS/Xbox kindly showed with that now famous tweet - they are all third party multiplatform releases coming to them and PC as well. So what reason should I, has an owner of a PS5, be excited for? Nada. Nothing.

I counted 11 games that I'm interested in and will probably buy if they continue to show well. I understand people wanted more from first party but we....I mean.....we know they haven't gone away right? Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch and Sony Santa Monica still exist and still have games they're working on even if they weren't revealed yesterday.

But tbh it's hard to take criticism seriously when people say SM2 looked last gen. I was completely blown away and though it was a perfect end to the showcase.

So we should just believe that "first party games are coming!" like we do with Xbox? Nah, call them both out for shit pacing and a lack of forethought.

Nothing really that excites me about the future of PS5. A lot of the software that I liked from the showcase are multiplatform, or I had ulterior motives like Granblue Fantasy Re:Link where giving me its release window was where it served its purpose because I'll be buying it on Steam. So it was as mid as mid could be. A lot of the First Party studios I was interested in hearing from are dead silent and "it's too early" isn't a good enough excuse. I also want ND to get Factions 2 out already so they can move on from TLOU and show me something new...

The games I liked from the Showcase has nothing to do with Sony. Sony only showed up on their stupidly expensive transitions and I avoided all leaks so I never had expectations.

I’m as disappointed as others regarding the no-show of 1st party games, especially from ND. However, there were still a lot of games shown that I’m really looking forward to.

Assassins Creed Mirage looks like the best AC in ages, Dragons Dogma 2 looks awesome. I’m really looking forward to Immortals - it looks fun! FF16 has me pumped, SF6 likewise and they release within a month! Spider-Man 2 didn’t meet expectations, but it still looks better than most games this gen and no doubt it’ll be a good time. Even some of the indie games look fun and unique.

And then Beat Saber dropped and I’m already obsessed, Synapse looks awesome and Crossfire can’t come soon enough.

As a Sony show, it was a 5/10, but purely as a game show, it was a solid 8/10.

Yeah, despite a poor first-party showing, they showed plenty of third-party games that I'd pick on day one or on a discount:
  • Metal Gear collection
  • MGS 3 Remake
  • Dragon's Dogma 2 (looks like a day one for me!)
  • AC Mirage (first time in years I've been excited about an AC. Reminds me of the golden days of the Ezio trilogy)
  • Phantom Blade 0
  • Towers of Aghasba
  • Final Fantasy XVI (day one)
  • Beat Saber PS VR 2
  • Synapse PS VR 2

remakes are a waste of time and money so i dont care for mgs 3. i rather play the original the way it was meant to be, i expected better visuals from spiderman 2 since its not on ps4 and not enough new first party reveals.

Those Mattrick Era E3s were third party games, VR Kinect, ending with big <franchise> and they got torn a new asshole every conference.

It would have been better if MGS didn't leak and if they showed actual gameplay.

It was a solid 7/10 for me. The showcase in 2021 was a 10/10. It's like dating a supermodel and then downgrading to cute pretty girl.

I watched before coming here and was surprised to see the dumpster fire. I came out seeing rez4vr and dd2 which where hot shit. A little more of crossfire and spiderman which I was already getting.

The only savagely bad thing was opening with that wokey shooter. Here I was all 'derp don't worry guys not all service games are b-team coop shooters ' and then they open with one that looks dire lol. But I don't have to play that and it ain't my money. If you think that team could have been making the next legendary sp franchise instead, sorry you have brain damage.

The only other thing that really bugged me was that mgs3 trailer looking so sketchy. I wasn't following the rumors and like others who got laughed at, I was thinking so y was helping with it. When I heard they were I got worried because let's face it, they do some of if not the best work.

The rest was meh because it was to long and didn't need a lot of that stuff in there. But then we come to the forum and we've got a three alarm lol

I am actually looking forward to seeing more of Haven's game. It is apparently a co-op heist game, which honestly is relatively fresh and can be interesting.

Not my type of game because I don't play online a lot, but I'm still interested in seeing how they make it.

It was not bad at all, in fact there were plenty of games I’m really excited about.
It was just incredibly disappointing from a first party perspective and it would have been nice to get a glimpse into what teams like Bend or Bluepoint have to offer next… and I have to admit I was looking forward to Factions.
