Hmmm...totally missed the pronouns portion of creating my character...lol.
Made a definite dude and was curious why everyone was referring to me as "she".

Went to Enhance on New Atlantis to fix that!

Not gonna lie, space travel in this game is a huge bummer. It's just: open videogame menu - hold X to fast travel - fade black loading screen - landing animation (zero interactivity) - another load screen and suddenly you're on the surface of a new planet.

Zero immersion and the whole process feels archaic. They really couldn't make the starmap a display in the pilot cabin that you can interact with while you're in the chair?

I might sound weird but everything in this game is so videogame-y. Menu this, submenu that, loading screen, loading screen, navigate three menu screens to equip a helmet, good lord.
Yeah, my experience with it so far too. It's just not very immersive (tho the sound and shooting are good). Also, the prologue is comically short and rushed, add to this the fact that MSQ writing is very stale. But I won't jump to assumptions just yet.

Feels like they started developing this so long ago that the industry has moved on with techniques and technology, and this game didn't.

Downgrading to the Standard Edition, game is great but not Red Dead 2, Elden Ring, Breath of The Wild levels of greatness for the $99 price point, Todd and Bethesda made it looks like it was going to be the new Skyrim but it just isn't on the same level, it also doesn't help that reviewers didnt had to pay for it.

The game is good, it's basically Fallout 4 in space which was what i was expecting, but the travel between planets and exploration is much more limited than what they advertised, even knowing there wouldn't be seamless exploration,

I could bet some stocks that once the game is released out of Early Access the reactions will extremely polarizing and the Metacritic score will drop to 80

TESVI might be in serious issues, Bethesda really needs a new engine. There's no way they did not consider seamless transition and vehicles in development, something must have happend during the buidgetary and technology assement process.

I'm 100% positive the game quality will skyrocket with updates and expansions, but it's not worth the price now.

Bethesda can't use a new engine and keep all of the things that have been iterated on and fine-tuned for decades that make it uniquely Bethesda within a reasonable amount of development time, let alone adding more systems and mechanics, scale and scope, etc....

I am guessing they segment it on purpose.

Every area has NPCs with routine, objects, potential role playing possibilities etc, player can go in and do a lot of things to change all that.

Segmentation keeps bugs to the minimum.

You see this with every complex game. Tears of the Kingdom has all your creations disappear in a few minutes so to keep things simple and bug free.

They can make a new engine like the Creation Engine that can implement better textures and mechanics, It's been 10 fucking years and everything that isn't a main NPC is downright ugly, even Cyberpunk 2077 at launch was better.

Some people are going to hate hearing this, but the more I play, the more this game feels like Fallout 76 in space.... and I really don't mean that in a negative way, because I'm one of the weirdos that actually enjoyed my time with 76. But yeah, the parallels with Starfield are numerous. The ship is basically a mobile CAMP (complete with a stash and crafting stations), the outposts are essentially workshops, and the workstations function virtually the same as in 76 (and 4, to be fair). It even feels like you've got the marsupial mutation with the low gravity + jetpacks lol

Gameplay-wise I feel right at home, as someone who put 400+ hours into 76. Only thing I'm really missing are VATS and some QOL improvements that really should have been implemented in this game (like hold E to eat food directly instead of having to pick them up and then eat from menu).

I don't mind the space travel. It actually seems like it would be a huge time sink flying around empty space if it was seamless, no thanks. However, I do like the visuals of space itself and the possibility of getting into dog fights. I don't need it to be the meat and potatoes, but it is a nice break between planets.

Edit: I should say, if this was multiplayer to where encounters in space would be more engaging while traveling seamlessly, hell yeah. As it is now, I think it's unnecessary for a single player, but wouldn't hate it if it was an option.

Man I dunno about this game. I decided to explore the planet that the first big city you arrive at is on to try and complete the Biome scanning, wandering around a pretty bland nondescript landscape, scanning is so tedious because you need to scan the same plant/animal multiple times for 100%, came across some abandoned structures and civilian Outposts, nothing of any consequence, some generic enemies in some, a vendor selling crap in another. Came across a Cave that was showing up on the scanner. So I went in and at the end of this very short cave the only thing in there was a pile of shit, I kid you not the only thing was a dung pile.

Bonus of this experience was that the game Autosaved me in a death loop to some creature, lost about an hour of progress.

I don't have early access myself but have been seeing reports about broken HDR which honestly doesn't shock me, sadly. But even SDR is washed out. According to YouTuber GamingTech. It's way too bright, stuff that you'd think is black is more like grey. You guys have this too?

Found a fix for it?

That looks good. It's amazing how on one hand you have games on the Series S with atrocious image quality like Immortals of Aveum and then games like this with really good image quality. I know that Immortals is pushing more advanced tech with Lumen but still it's a big difference.

I dunno… engine dependent I guess but luckily this game works well on it

Day to night takes ages & am right at the start of the game in these images. So no way to sleep or anything.

No way to sleep/pass time that I can find if you're out and about I guess, but in cities or wherever you can sit on a bench/chair and do the whole "wait" thing, right? I saw the option but didn't try it.

Anyway, my thoughts on the game are basically it's Fallout in Space, and I'm ok with that. It is sort of a bummer that travel is all click, click, loading screen, boom you're there, makes everything feel a little less like you're exploring the galaxy than something like NMS. However, I am loving going to points of interest and exploring places, collecting loot and such. Very much like finding a Vault you didn't know existed in Fallout 3/4.

Are you saying that when you choose the '???' background you cannot choose traits?

Both. It’s how I plan to play so curious what’s wrong.
The app always had problem in the past on release of big games, halo infinite was a shitshow, the latest problem on my side was not being able to liberate the space occupied by a game after the unistall (very common problem if you do a little search), gamepass pc is not as good as gamepass console, not only for the reduced library...

I can't play the game because i'm at work, even if it is a slow day, i'm still far from home.

I must have had my first bug during that first space combat 'trailing' session. I was not hitting the enemy ship to save my life. It just kept looping around over and over. So I gave up for the night.
I loaded up the game this morning to have my son play and I watched him start hitting the enemy ship. It even had health bars on the enemy ships this time. Before It was nothing when I was playing last night. So something changed during the night.

Bethesday published Rage 2, they have pretty good shooting system in place for open world, how the shooting is this garbage is beyond me. I know 30 FPS but this feels straight up bad without VATS

I know it's off topic but Rage 2 deserved more praise for it's shooting mechanics. It might have the best fps gameplay mechanics ever. Surely it's top 3.

Damn, I legit thought that I was playing for maybe like 3-4 hours but I suddenly got hungry and realised that it's four in the damn afternoon, lol.

I gotta take a break now but holy shit, I'm having a great time. This has to be one of the most polished games that BGS has ever put out and I guess we can thank Fallout 76 for it. If that game wasn't so busted they probably wouldn't try to compensate for it so hard with this one, lol.

There’s no way it’s MC score will drop a whole 8 points with this many reviews out.

I kind of regret upgrading to premium on gamepass. I let the hype get to me. Should have just waited. Oh well. Lesson learned. Never upgrade to premium edition Bethesda games. Horizon 5 was totally worth the premium upgrade but this. Meh.
Mate you get the paid expansion for it next year, how do you know its not worth it?

I had originally taken today off for something unrelated but decided to come into the office today because no one knows I play video games and don't want anyone thinking I took work off to play star field
It's 2023. If you going to allow yourself to give a shit about a bunch of random nobodies at work and care what they think about you, then I feel sad for you. It's your life, time and money, fuck everyone else and fuck what other people think. You live for yourself, not for stupid society. Love yourself more, you will live a better life.

EDIT - Thabks for gifting gold.

Keep in mind that for 99$ you also get access to the first DLC once is out...So if the DLC is more than 30$, this could be a good price, if you invest in advance.

My boss asked me during our weekly meeting what I was going to do on my vacation. I said "playing this new game called Starfield".

I mean.....do you have to have a reason to take time off?

I legit want to know what the boss said in reply.

"Oh, my brother Todd is working on it"
