This is terrible. I wonder what else Disney offered to get George to sell. You would think the super lucrative continued merchandising and licensing of Star Wars meant LucasFilm is worth more but I guess maybe not.

Seems entirely likely that Lucas is just getting older and just is tired and doesn't want to deal with it anymore. It's not like he's not already outrageously rich. It may have been a comparatively low price, but what is a man already going to do with that much money?

Does Lucas still have creative control?

Everyone pitched a shitfit when Disney acquired Pixar but they effectively remained the same company.

Sounds like all they wanted was Star Wars, everything else is getting shoved a side while they enjoy their new toy.
Poor Indy...and Red Tails.

Wait a minute?!

Imagine a Spider-Man or Iron Man game or for heaven's sake a Marvel Cosmic game on Star Wars 1313 engine?!

My pants are imaginarily soiled.

Or Marvel Cosmic X Star Wars comic..

So everything happening after ROTJ is pretty much covered in the EU going forward nearly 50 years without much room for breaks.

Is this just going to shit all over that or follow it?

The EU always respected that the prequels were off limits and no books were written in that time period until Lucas did the prequels. I have a bad feeling Disney will not respect EU as Canon.

In all honestly dude and after giving this some thought WHO THE FUCK EVEN CARES?

Reboot that shit! There is nothing involved that is so precious that it should act as an intellectual obsticle to new content. What I love about the universe is that it's thousands and thousands of years old. Need some breathing space for a new story. Pick an empty millenia and put your story there.

TAJ

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
Adjusting for inflation, and adding international and 3D, if the prequel trilogy were released today, it would have generated 1.5 billion dollars according to the Disney CFO.

Also, the acquisition, while also including Indiana Jones, the price paid was only based on the Star Wars franchise. Which means basically, Disney bought Star Wars, and got Indiana Jones for free, plus ILM and Skywalker sound. Jesus what a steal for them.

Just imagine how much the prequels could have made if Lucas hadn't been involved.

You saw the Avengers movie?

Did you notice that it has barely anything to do with the state of the marvel comic book universe?

Disney will just throw the EU under the bus to get a good movie, and that'd be a good decision.

Yes, but in that case the Comics are canon and the films are just fun to watch, but not a part of the "canon storyline".

In the case of Star Wars the movies were always true Canon, with the official adult Novels and Comics one step below. Then video games and other media a step below that.

The novels were the second highest canon, now SW fans will need to decide if the movies are still "real" canon or if the novels take precedence.

For Marvel it is easy, Comics came first, so you can ignore the movie if you want. For Star Wars the movies came first. Hard to ignore what has been considered canon for 20 years though.

According to Forbes Lucas has made more from ILM and THX than the star wars properties.

Was mentioned as well in the conference call by saying the studio/films only made up a quarter of Lucsaflim's money.. Always figured that was the case. Those were always the biggest outcome of the creation of Star Wars.

This is crazzzzzy news. My jaw dropped when I saw the headline. Still don't know what to think.

On the one hand, I have to admit that I trust Disney to make a better Star Wars film than Lucas... They've more or less down right by the Marvel flicks.
On the other hand, I really don't like a company like Disney acquiring... well... everything. Just on principal.

This seems crazy to me.

Disney bought Pixar for $7.4 billion back in 2006.
Disney buys Lucasfilm and ILM for $4 billion in 2012.
