If the bomb drops (or two) the rest of the showings don't have to be that great/unexpected. Many expect God of War alone to carry the show through the roof and generate a lot of hype, but that's the thing, to me God of War is not in the ""bomb" category, not for Sony this year anyway because it is expected. I think they need to show variety and a glimpse of the future. And I'm of the opinion this is prime time to drop something unexpected (a true bomb) that wows everyone and paints a clear picture of what a full next-gen PS5 exclusive can look like (think of Wukong level or even more amazing).
God of war is expected? I guess a teaser maybe but that game isn't coming out until 2023.

The only true bomb they can show would be the last of us remake.

Why mega acquisition? Sony doesn't need a mega acquisition, they can keep working with smaller studios and then acquire them, and ensure that GOTY quality we've gotten used to.

Something Infamous and possibly MIB may happen but it feels like we've got this close without any major leaks. I do hope that points to Sony really locking shit down rather than there being nothing to leak.

You lack imagination if you really believe a remake of Tlou is the only true bomb they could show.

Oh so God of War is unexpected?? It was announced last year...you don't make sense. And funny you say so confidently it will release in 2023. In just a few hours I think I'll get back to you on this.

Its what I want tbh. Something completely unexpected and out of nowhere. You know those trailers that start up and have you like "wtf is this?".

A surprise announcement of The Order 1887 with some sick new gen only graphics would be great. But I doubt RAD is ever doing a sequel.

My ideal (but still realistic) show

-Show begins with Jim Ryan talking about the the typical "our console is killing it blah blah blah" and then he starts talking in perfect Japanese and announces their new Japanese studio with top Japanese developers, and saying how important Japan still is to Playstation and how important are their relations with Japanese publishers and developers.

-Then silence and then the first teaser trailer comes which is a new exclusive From Software game which has a lot of similarities to Bloodborne but is a new IP.

-God of War Ragnarok trailer.

-GT7 gameplay trailer.

-The Last of Us 2 Factions trailer (don't care about it)

- Trailer of Insomniac's multiplayer game (don't care about it)

-GTA 6 trailer (probably don't care about it)

-Silent Hill

-Some CoD crap

-Project Awakening new trailer

-Infamous Trilogy PS5 Remasters

-Forspoken new trailer

Jim Ryan closing the show with the announcement of Blue Point's acquisition and a last teaser trailer of MGS Remake.

And then i woke up. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

And Metroid prime was announced 4 years ago.

What about cyberpunk ? That was announced on 2013 with more info.
The last of us part II was announced on 2016 with a video.

We have no video, no images, no info of God of war. The game is in early development but Sony lied to you. If the game is even a little close to release then they need to show a 10 minutes trailer with gameplay and I would still have my doubts.

I think 1 extra bomb on top of God of war and gran Turismo 7 would satisfy many people. Like you said God of War gameplay would cary the show as it is so they can get away with dropping 1 bomb.

I don't know about that. The 2021 release window they initially gave doesn't come from nowhere. Presumably they are using the same engine, just higher assets on PS5, and it has been 3.5 years since GOW. Juuuuust right to show something.

GoW is 100% expected to be in this event.

It was planned to be released late 2021 and an April release (let's say their covid delay has been 5-6 months) would mean 4 years since their previous game, which is more than they took for their previous games, excluding the period where they were developing a cancelled new IP.

Unlike this previous game this won't be a full reboot of the IP and the genre. It will be a direct sequel with very likely the same main characters, pretty much the same gameplay, the same world, camera, the same engine with some tweaks to make it shine on PS5 and introducing some gameplay ideas, enemies, locations or features dropped from the previous game due to time constrains. Pretty likely they even had the main story written down when they finished the previous game. So its development should have been easier, faster and smoother than the previous one, to the point Cory may have someone else to direct it while he only overviewed it while he directs another game.

If Sony didn't show this game is because they wanted to save that hype bullet for later and because they had many other exclusive games to be promoted before because they were going to release before. I think it won't be released in 2023, but instead I think very likely will be released H1 2022, pretty likely a couple of months away from Horizon 2 and GT7.

They made a pre-event damage control announcement mentioning PSVR2 won't be here like in previous events, but this time they didn't include GoW and GT7 on this damage control announcement, which pretty likely means they will be there.
