Most of the anti-DS crowd DON'T own one. I do, but I didn't pay for it.

Ok if you didn't pay for it, that's a good deal. Keep it until Castlevania comes out. play it and sell it.

But the funny thing is that jackfrost went mad over Nintendo and Nintendogs score even though he owned the game and was even ready to give it a 9 :lol

*backhand* shut up.

I read your OTHER post before you edited it out, and I just want to say for the record that I laughed so hard that I think perhaps I did burst a vein! But for reasons other than you intended!

The whole "You aren't clever as you think" and then the curve ball of "Everyone whose name starts with an A is shit" naw, just you!" thing was utterly priceless!

I'm from fuckin' Brooklyn, mang. Profanity is in my blood!

For the record I didn't go off on a tangent yelling and screaming. I have little to no love for the DS or this game but whatever I don't go around condeming those with opinions. Drinky rules in Amir's favor so be it I'm man enough to admit if I over-reacted which I did unlike some people. I apologize for getting on your ass Amir but you did provide me with plenty of laughs.

EDIT: I didn't edit anything Drinky did. He ruled in your favor.

Drinky, I must say I could never have done as well a job manipulating an entire board as you have. Hats off to you, sir.

omg, this is spectacular. :lol :lol :lol

Nintendogs couldn't possibly become the new Pokemon, right? Despite the apparent shittiness of Famitsu reviews (which is news to me, because for as long as I've been on the Internet, people always claim Famitsu reviews as "tough" or whatever), it got a perfect score. Do people generally heed Famitsu's word and buy based on the mag in Japan? It'd be apeshit if this review - and the furor caused by it - only made the game sell *more*.

Welp, at least there's still America. No one'll like the game there, right? RIGHT???23

...also, I wonder. What's happening @ OA regarding this? Must be bananas over there too. :lol

*sigh*

Rightio. And just so you know, because I don't think you understand why I was laughing, I wasn't being serious about the whole "everyone who puts validity in Famitsu reviews" is shit thing. That's just my usual hyperbolic writing style, it's just meant to emphasis how shitty Famitsu is for reviews :p

I apologize too if I, uh, overreacted towards you in my own way. But you have to learn not to take my exaggerated statements seriously. :p

One can dream.... :lol

I'm with you here. My new dream is that every publication gives Nintendogs a perfect score just so I can see the reaction across the internet.

It's all good. I don't know why but you being from Brooklyn made some of what you said ok. I assumed you were from some snobby suburb trying to crack some heads on the internet lol.

man i can't believe i read every post in this thread...

then again, the thread was entertaining as fuck...

i think it's amusing that i love animal crossing, own a ds, and i could really give two shits about nintendogs...

i mean, if i got it for free, i'd probably play it for a few days, but i wouldnt waste more than 2¢ to buy it...

i'm just a fat internet geek who spends time arguing on message boards.

I mean! That's good enough reason to crack some heads, I think!

The way I'm looking at it...Look how Tamagotchi blew up...Now imagine a similiar craze with Nintendogs on the DS. I'm sure as hell picking it up. Famitsu has been "unkind" to DS games in general, but this one earned a perfect score...It must be something special.

:lol

I'm always amazed by every single Nintendogs thread, and how it can degenerate into vitriolic mud-slinging back and forth, be a thread with 10-15 pages worth of replies and personal attacks, and get people banned, when all it is, is a game where cute puppies catch frisbees, or jump around.

And they wear cute little luigi hats!

[crowd] *Awwwwwwwwwwwww* [/crowd]

I don't see this becoming a Pokemon-style phenomenon in the US, simply because the game has no storyline or characters, which severely limits potential licensing.

But what about cute Nintendogs in Luigi hats? Oh, and if this does become a phenomenon in Japan, I'd say it would be odds on to put in a similar performance in the west.

It's usually reason enough for most.

Now excuse me while I squeeze into my size 54 pants and ride my scooter to the post office to pick up my issues of Xena Fanservice and Dungeons and Dragons monthly. :)

I'll thank those not to stare.

Not to completely derail the awesome-ness of this thread - but I just unlocked the coolest item yet in my Drinky-free copy of Nintendogs - the R/C helicopter. It's fully playable & controls with the D-Pad. Can't wait to find more unlockables! God damn addictive.

I'll have pics tonight on my very own Nintendog Blog. Freaking cool.

Are you crazy? The licensing possibilities are endless!

Nintendo has already started, and announced the following:

NintendogsWB.jpg

I suggested earlier that there should be a RE version of this; it'd be awesome to raise Las Plagas puppies with the tentacles on their backs and train them to kill.

This is a bit of a rambling mess, but it's gone midnight here and I should be getting to bed. How I see the DS / PSP dychotomy:

In a perfect world, I would actually prefer that third parties recognise DS as a non-core-gaming console and either aid it (and Nintendo) in pursuit of the kinds of 'new' gamers we're talking about here or move onto PSP. To be honest I think that would provide a much more legitimate purpose for DS and probably improve the PSP line up. And it would also help, one would hope, in forcing Nintendo's hand: both making them take PSP and it's prowess more seriously, and expediating production of a new Gameboy.

However, I think the situation has become interesting, at least in Japan. It almost seems alien that DS has been holding its own against PSP. We're seeing good traditional-style franchises and gaming experiences go to DS, sometimes with novel use of the DS features, but equally often (or moreso) as nothing but an after-thought. The GBA ports are a horrific example of exploiting the DS as a means to sell what might otherwise be sold on a GBA or upgraded for PSP. It's not what Nintendo have been doing themselves (outside of Mario 64 which doesn't benefit much from being on DS) so I think it's safe to assume this is a clash with their initial intentions.

I personally think it's looking increasingly likely that there is potential for DS to remain a home to core gaming as well as this new touch-sensitive niche of accessible gaming Nintendo are trying to discover. I think it can be a cheaper PSP alternative AND the console for people who frit their time away playing online chess / flash games.

I do not think this would have been possible but for several factors.

For Joe Public:
• There is a gulf in price between DS and PSP. It's certainly an assumption, but I can see DS price dropping before PSP too and at a greater frequency if necessary.
• The DS has had the jump on PSP all over the world and gotten itself a neat userbase lead.
• To a window shopping gamer, it may well seem novel / new / interesting.

And for a gamer more in the know, such as your average Gaffer:
• They may already be Nintendo fans. Instant interest.
• Some people see potential for new kinds of games, or new spins on old gameplay - and this appeals to them
• Some see it specialising in different gameplay types / genres than other hardware - and it is these that make DS appeal to them.
• Nintendo games, and some others, are getting media/board attention both positive and negative. It's all publicity. This place thrives on news, reviews, rumors and PR. What if the media had ignored it like they do with Gamecube more and more?
• The promise of further Nintendo games and third party titles
• An online plan people thought would never come.

If Sony had eaten a little more into the bank they could have mortally wounded DS and have released a "we now dominate handhelds" PR piece within a matter of months. As it stands they were slow producing and shipping initial units, they've been slow following DS around the world, and they've been doing it asking for more money than Nintendo.

I think at E3 there will be more software that legitimises the DS as a choice for people who aren't gamers such as those here in this thread right now. New games that benefit from pointer devices. Applications even. Peripherals for both. If Nintendo don't foray into Instant Messenging as part of their online plan, then surely somebody else will. But equally, I think they're going to retain the kind of third party support that generates the likes of The Sims, Madagascar, Robots, Revenge of the Sith, Rayman 2... cash ins born of the home console world, carried over from films or carried over from the world of the Gameboy and Mobile phones. Stuff on the release list - like Madden, FIFA, Winning Eleven, GoldenEye Rogue Agent, Splinter Cell. If mobile phones are getting it, I think DS will too. Maybe the familiar Arm architecture is what is bringing the likes of Gameloft aboard.

I believe that DS is turning into the lower tier of ALL handheld gaming as opposed to the sole provider of niche accessibility gaming. The GBA could have been an even lower tier were they not so obviously getting ready to phase it out.

If the recent Nintendo curse fails to strike as it has for N64 and Gamecube, whereby eventually only Nintendo benefit from their hardware, then I think it will be some small unintentional victory against Sony, which down the line proves not so much small but grand in the scheme of things. DS could potentially stand Gameboy in good stead (if it is in fact coming). This underpowered DS has the potential to cause more upset than an underpowered Gameboy would have.

I'll read a few more posts then I'm offski!
Work on the morrow

Actually, that is pretty damn cool. I'm somewhat impressed but I'll wait for Drinky Puppy Diamond Emrald Bark before I even think about giving this a chance.

You know, there really aren't enough :lol :lol :lol 's to convey just how funny this thread is.

On one side, you have the people enjoying this game.
On the other side you have bitter men (probably in their 20's and 30's) who seem to be taking Famitsu's score and the apparent sales so personally you'd think someone raped their sister.

...and all over a game about dogs. :lol :lol :lol

Madden? Nope. GTA? Nope. Halo? Nope. Dogs? YOU BET!

The scores go like this: 4 people give the game a score out of 10. They usually pick a hardcore gamer, a casual gamer, someone who likes a specific genre and A.N.Other. It just means that 4 people thought the game was worth a 10, rather than 1. A lot of games get a single 10. Just those games don't get much recognition because board posters make such a big thing of the 4x10s. It's really just a measure of a game's broad appeal rather than it's singular quality, and since Nintendo's ethic is to appeal to a broad audience, it shouldn't really be surprising to see that Nintendo has 3 out of 5 perfect scores.

Wow, I never knew how they were coming up with these seemingly random scores but this would explain it. I'm lucky to have found that post in the rest of this mess :p It's actually a nice way to review as each type of gamer can choose one of the reviewers to identify with, and can ignore the scores that don't really apply to them. Is there an easy way to tell which reviewer gave which score? as in is the more casul reviewer always second? And what is the A.N.Other?

I think it's unfortunate that we look at game reviews through such a scewed perspective. There are certain things we look for and expect in a good game that a lot of other people may not care about.

Gee to think those 5 day sales numbers have not been verified
U.S. version still many months away...

E3 can't come soon enough I need a little break from GAF Nintendog0mania.

Holy shit that explains it: Famitsu = Iron Chef.

Now if you really want to get upset about reviews that's the show to watch. Bobby Flay beating Iron Chef Sakai sickened me.

If they use that reviewer set, it's odd that something like Vagrant Story would be such a hit. I mean, I love it, but it is more of a niche game.

On the real topic, I have no problem with these quirky games. I was towards the top of the hype train for Animal Crossing like a year before it hit the states, before it was even announced for release here. I just don't like how gimmicky and shallow the end result wound up, and it sounds like Nintendogs is kinda like that too.

I think by "gimmicky and shallow" you mean "awesome and one of the best games of this generation"? :)

I can see what you mean, though.. but I still love it.. :D

Holy Christ this is out of control. I may have to buy a copy just due to all this controversy. It'll be like some sort of "I survived the Nintendog0wning of GAF" memorabelia.

Seriously though, who's doing this to all the threads?

All of the Nintendo/Nintendog haters. Every Nintendog thread on here turns into something like this...although this is the biggest one yet.

Probably one of the reasons it's scoring so high is because these people are getting a very strong connection to their virtual pup. I mean it's really unexpected when you become attached to a freaking video game that you are taking breaks during the day to check on your pup to see how he/she is doing. Plus the game puts you as the trainer, making your dog obidient and playing with it fetching frisbee's or what have you and entering dog competitions including agility and others. I'm pretty sure people are just surprised that anything like this would surface, it really is a testament to utilising the DS's potential to the maximum.

:lol :lol :lol

this is crazy. A-Rod hitting for 9 RBIs and 3 homers through 4 innings, Nintendog forum meltdown...the apocalypse = upon us?

I imagine this means that the server may very well crash when sales threads are posted and verified for the 'Dogs. :p

I love the concept of AC, but the way it's handled is really paper thin and discouraging when expecting any sort of a meaty experience.

I don't really care about the "not a game" nonsense, it's stupid, but there are no real mechanics, goals, consequences, achievements, ect outside of collecting various things. Simply put; the way they handle villager presentation/interaction and slapped a randomizer on so many meaningful elements would kill the game altogether, let alone other faults.

Granted, it's basically an N64 game though. I just hope when they get around to making another they do so with some aim at folks who are looking to have a little more of an experience than simply being enamored with the novelty of it all.

I could probably dig Nintendogs otherwise, but it sounds like they went for the inoffensive, "everyone from 2 to 82" can play, digi-museum slant on it too. Which is too bad because I love tinkering with simulation-esque games.

Post number 600, and where have we been?
