Pogba unfortunately plays for France though. How many English players has Evertons youth club? If you buy those kids from other countries it's nice for your club but has no advantage for the national team. That is the point of many here.

I got that, and yes that is the problem with national team. In fact how many of those English youngsters would get into Juve starting 11.

Very worrying indeed.

While for English players this might be the case we also have the best managers at club level from all over Europe. No league in the world can say they have:

Mourinho
Guardiola
Klopp
Conte
Pochatino

etc etc

The Premier League also just signed a £5.5Bn TV deal. PL footballs in a great state, English players aren't.
Pochettino? Oh my the envy!

you don't rate him?
Considering his tenure at espanyol was all but a disaster and hasn't done much at Southampton or Tottenham since, no.

Outside of guardiola you listed managers that are coming off some of the worst seasons as managers. Klopp has been avaerag at Liverpool and his final season with Dortmund was terrible and mourinho with Chelsea well.

so getting Spurs to 3rd wasn't an achievement? Do you know when Spurs were in the top 3 last or fighting for a title?

Klopp average with Liverpool? 2 finals in one season? Coming in at the start of September. As a Liverpool fan I couldn't be more delighted with his appointment.

Premier League can afford topplayers and coaches from outside England. Yes. No discussion about that. You are missing the point though.

No i totally agree with you that there is something wrong with coaching young English players, whether its a lack of skill, aggression, determination, technique or all of those.

My own personal opinion is that young English players get too much too soon. They are paid a small fortune for being an U21 player. Whats the incentive to improve when you are paid so handsomely?

Ah, gotcha. My point was there is a lack of good english coaches and guys like Mourinho and Guardiola change obviously nothing about that.

And yeah, one of the reasons for problems is ironically that there is too much money involved. Freakin Hodgson was the most well paid coach. That was absurd already before the defeat.

That would explain why English clubs are so incredible successful in the international competitions.

Time to sleep. In 24 hours all will be known. Shit, I still can't believe it we're playing for the semi final. Crazy. Go Poland! :) And for the love of god Milik, please, don't fuck it up for us.

Looks like the UEFA accepted the CONMEBOL "Challenge" (of course, more money for both) and Chile will face the Euro champion on a match :D

Poland will beat Portugal.

Lewandowski has flopped so much this tournament though. I was expected amazing things from him.

If you watch the highlight reels of his goals in Germany, he's typically being set up with gorgeous passes from world class players. Poland doesn't have that same class and creativity.

I would rate Poland and Belgium above Portugal in that half of the field.

And even if they get through the easy-mode quater and semi finals, they will never win against France, Italy or Germany.

So, does Poland have a legit shot at upsetting Portugal tomorrow? I say yes, but with caution.
Poland was the best attacking team in the Euro qualifier. They played a decent tournament so far but both teams play the same style so this match has a lot of shit potential.

Portugal feels like 2004's Greek

If we get in the finals (toppest of lels) facing Brlgium again, i have a feeling it will be like 2012 all over again, with us replaying the first match but with a much shittier condition, which will lead to a 4-0 loss

:(

He did manage to do it in a weak year when the usual suspects were going through transition periods or just total train crashes of a season. He really had to finish above Arsenal to be a success for many. His team totally lost the plot at the end of the season, that Chelsea game was a joke. It was the best Spurrs team in a good while and if they hadn't lost all discipline at the tail end of the season then he would get a lot more credit for what he did. But regardless he isn't a coach on the same level as the other coaches you mentioned.

I have to disagree and I'm not even a spurs fan. Id happily take him at my club in the future. His team play good football too, he's introduced a lot of younger players into the team and I expect them to have another good season.

He hasn't won a thing as a manager apart from a manager of the month all the others have won loads. I also wouldn't put Klopp in with the others either but he has a much better record than Pochettino and is a very entertaining personality.

Indeed. Premier League is great. But mostly because of coaches and players from outside the UK.

The english team performed horrible. No strategy, no real team spirit, a useless (and quite honestly: a clueless) coach, an over the hill completely overvalued Rooney (who did everything wrong). Russia is the only team that was more horrible to watch.
And that's sad. I hope the people of england find a way to find their way to the top again.
There must be loads of talent in England.

So from what I saw the pitch in Marseille has not been changed between the group and knockout phase.

The pitch was already in pitiful state during the Pol-Ukr match, what a joke.

I have a crazy suggestion for where to hold that game. If they have a stadium ready, hold the match in Qatar. Give us an example of what a big football game will be like over there now so we can have an idea of what to expect in 6 years time. Or would Russia be the better neutral venue before their World Cup takes place?

Surprised at the lack of gifs on that England exit.

Can anyone do a gif of the Steve McClaren reaction to Iceland scoring as if he's watching the GoT Red Wedding or the
Cerci Wildfire
part of the season 6 finale?

McClaren Reaction:

Is this what you're after?

I think it'll either be a Germany Belgium or Germany Portugal final. (I would love for Wales to beat Belgium though.. depends if Hazard turns up or not)

EDIT - Having thought about it, I'm not giving Poland much credit there. I think they can push Portugal today.

It's anyone's title I think. It will end coming down to who has the most desire and who can unpick defences better with craft and complete team strategy. I don't see any team getting through this relying on one or two of their players alone

So you see Germany finally beating Italy?
