RIP Everyone who voted otherwise lol.
Pretty sure "2022" was already mentioned months ago.

Without reading through all 6 pages, can somebody logically explain why this is even a topic and why people are expecting another delay? I get the feeling it's mainly wishful thinking by anti-PS folks, but that could be just me.

- We have multiple Sony Santa Monica devs moving to other projects (which usually happens when a game is basically done)
- We have multiple Sony Santa Monica devs confirming Ragnarok is still set for a 2022 release
- We have Cory Barlog posting a video in which he states they are "tightening up the graphics"
- We have a Sony job listing stating God of War is the biggest release of the year.

Make it make sense.
Mostly wishful thinking after the Starfield delay last week.

I've seen that being shared but that's been on their bio since last year.

Well, I for one hope its 2022 and launches in a decent state un like horizon FW. I think if they can get it out without issues 2022 is sonys year for potentially releasing two absolute slammers in god of war and GT7.

That's unless Nintendo just sneaks out some serious bangers in the last 6 months of the year. Or for some freak reason, which I highly doubt, MS pulls something out of the bag.

I'm still team 2022 for god of war and I hope it does come out as a message of how you can get games out in 2022. As long as its not buggy and in need of patches like every other game.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
if GOWR released this year, they are going to compete with ER for GOTY, tough fight here : /

1. Many games are being delayed this year and have been delayed out of other years in general but especially during COVID

2. the Cory Barlog video is a point against it releasing this year, the tightening up the graphics line was a joke reference to an old commercial not indicative of what stage of development they're in

3. Barely any new news about the game in over half a year

4. Those devs aren't in charge of decision making and aren't going to indicate a delay even if it is going to be delayed. All is right on the ship until the captain says otherwise.

5. Sony job listing doesn't say biggest release of 2022 just of the year (which can be 2023), and in a job listing they're going to make a job as attractive as possible, wording isn't indicative of anything. A hiring manager isn't going to be keyed into a delay anyways, especially when any official delay won't be for a few months.

Thanks. So it's basically wishful thinking. You just confirmed it.

Exactly.

I get it, nothing is set in stone yet....but if we like to have informed discussions and opinions about things....its more signs pointing to it launching this year vs being delayed.

And AFAIK, part of the initial delay was because someone that was doing motion capture got hurt, and the studio waited for them to get better to continue.

There was no news about Gran Turismo 7 for many months until the State of Play a few weeks before release. The game's release date was announced 5 or 6 months before release. Nothing is stopping God of War from having its release announced in June for November or December this year. Plus, we already got a huge State of Play in September i think? It's not like another game people expected for this year while we only got one leaked image...the game looked quite advanced already.

This page was last updated in March 2022 i think...every single game has yet to have a delay for next year and seems like they only included games they are quite sure they can make it this year.

This is just how Sony works right now. They don't make a huge splash a year before a game releases anymore...

You'll be getting that release date this or next month.

Watch Sony be like, we meant Winter 2022, which would mean that it could launch at any time between Jan - March 2023.

They could easily push GOW back if they have Silent Hill and that Last of Us Remake for later this year.

Same thing was said about Red Dead Redemption 2 and that game being a sure thing back in 2018.
And remember when The Last of Us won against GTAV?

Both Rockstar's latest games "lost" those races against PlayStation exclusives...

That said...these games are so cross-gen that it's painful. God of War looked even more cross-gen than Forbidden West...

It's far from impossible for GOW to release this year, but it's far from some guaranteed thing either. No one should get too invested in release dates in the current state of the industry. All the points made against GOW:R delay are less convincing evidence then Bethesda's track record of releasing games within 5-6 months of their reveals (actual reveals not teases), yet Starfield was still delayed.

I think it low key already has been, I think they hoped to get it out earlier this year and it will probably come out toward the end. But I do think they'll make 2022.

Nice to see an almost 50:50 split on the votes. I feel like there are good logical arguments to suspect both a 2022 and 2023 release, but voted no delay. I'm optimistic. It looked pretty good in their gameplay reveal, although there could be many reasons that aren't known to us poor public pleberinos why a delay would still be necessary.

Guess I’ll join in on the fun.

Obviously I have no idea if Ragnarok makes 2022, but I’m leaning more towards 2022 than 2023.

Just based off how polished it appeared when it was shown during the PlayStation showcase last year, and also that it was originally scheduled for 2021 and already received a delay. There’s still 7 months left of the year, I think they can get it out in 2022.

I feel they will delay it strategically because we all know Elden Ring is game of the year and God Of War won’t change that, so they would prefer their chances next year.

I find this reasoning silly but people having been saying the same about Starfield and Breath of the Wild 2. Both delayed because of ER. Then wouldn’t they face the same problem next year since they’re all launching together?

I honestly think stock, is the biggest issue. Why release a game if you 1 will be competing with games like Hogwarts, and 2. if you have no stock of your console.

Imagine thinking GOTY awards matter lmfao. Sales is all that counts.

It'd be neat to see data on how much these kinds of awards helps sales, but yeah, can't imagine its anywhere near significant enough to impact a release year decision.

Awards aren't good for much more than ruining boxart, in my opinion.

On that note, I feel 2023 won’t be as big for PS as 2022 was, so perhaps a push-back might be a great idea in that regard too. Who knows, maybe Xbox being the top rated Metacritic publisher last year made Sony feel some type of way so they want 2023 to try to get that title.

They're trying to make money not win internet points. It's only getting delayed if it's not finished. That's it

now that resetera has vowed to stop buying sony games there is 0 reason to release this or any other game ever again

sony is literally fucked
I won’t be buying games on PS5 again now either, thanks to their Gamepass system, I’ll literally just be subbing to that whenever a neat game launches.

They're not doing day one launches. You'll still be waiting at least a year. Even longer for the high profile games
Eww. In that case I’ll probably be tempted to either sell my console and wait until near end of life to play whatever is on it or it’ll gather dust for long bouts, because I’ll never be spending £70 for a game again. Felt a bit burnt out with some of the games I paid £50+ for lately.

I feel the opposite, every game I have bought from Sony in past year has been a banger. If Insomniac holds true for 2023, then SPiderman 2 is going to be a big game next year.

Well, the team of Cyberpunk and Starfield also said they would release in certain dates and ended up postponed. You're saying it's just "wishful thinking" but your evidences are as much significant nowadays as the fact that we're in almost half of 2022 and the game still has no release date and barely any news for quite some time.

Sure, I do believe it's entirely possible for it to release in 2022. But I also believe it might, very well, be postponed to early 2023 and it wouldn't be shocking at all.

Some of you seems to get too easily triggered by such minor things... To expect at this day and age a game to be delayed is nothing to be shocked at.
