just finished watching it, been skimming this thread while watching. overall i'm happy with many of the selections. so happy for QT. don't get the Macfarlane hate, I thought he was funny, was definitely better than Frano/Hathaway cluster fuck. The Jaws play off was fucking awesome, don't understand ppl bashing the academy for it. They nominees know ahead of time the time limit, I mean it is a broadcast after all they got to stick to a schedule, would love for them to make it as short as possible, watching an edited version of the broadcast without commercials it is clocked in at 2:53:22, thats way too long. Jennifer Lawrence, how can you not love her, she was awesome in Winter's Bone happy to see her win. Hope they go back to the usual 5 picture nominees next year, 9 is way too much. Probably could have done without Beasts, Les Mis, and Zero Dark being nominated.

edit: hahaha listening to howard stern now, he's recapping the oscars, lol glad he's pointing out all the stuff i was making notes of too.

yes, even though I thought she was good in TDKR Anne Hathaway really comes off as an insufferable phony. I noticed in all her award show speeches she's always out of breath and seems really blegh. she's a good actress no doubt, but DAT EGO. in comparison to Jennifer Lawrence, a great actress as well who doesn't take herself seriously at all.

edit: also wtf didn't she get jaw's played off, her speech was the longest.

I doubt AH is a great actress, I have no seen anything interesting from her except that one song she pulled off in LezMis.

Even in that "naked for most of the movie" Viagra movie she was meh.

I haven't read the thread, but I must be the only person who haven't enjoyed Argo. I thought it was good enough to for simple Cinema showing, but not as good as people think. Afflecks acting was too monotonous, the other characters were annoying, and the story never trudged into any innovative teroteries

Thought the read-through scene being cut with Iran scenes was really well done.

Affleck is indeed an awful actor. His direction is by the numbers, too. Argo is honestly as whitebread and cookie-cutter as you can get for Hollywood drama.

Would it have been ok if the tweet had asked how many dicks she'd sucked to get the role?

If they'd made it funny, why not. Not really worth it playing what if with jokes though, they wouldn't have made one like that.

Kind of disappointing since the last one was awesome, didn't seem like nearly as many stars. Matt Damon's always awesome. lol @ his career now vs Affleck, who would've guessed (why haven't those two worked together again yet?)

I have been shitting on it before it was cool and started winning awards.

You are literally the first person in this thread to hold this opinion. Do you have a newsletter I could subscribe to?

Didn't watch a second of any of it. Read the winners a few minutes ago. A big "meh" at everything aside from Jennifer Lawrence winning. Go J-Law!

Message board writer complains that some 50-70 something's can't pick his favorite kids movie?

If you are going to complain about him expressing his opinion on this, there will be no end of things to complain about. There has been plenty of complaining in this thread already about snubs and undeserved wins.

Anyway, I'm just glad Paranorman didn't win.

Good to see, there are other people thinks the same. However, I am happy that Armour won it since the other nominated films were quite disappointed. They should have nominated The Hunt and Headhunter over rubbish like Royal Affair.

Only reserved for people who aren't assholes, sorry.

Agreed, Brave was uninspired. Wreck it Ralph was a creative blast.

I agree that Wreck it was a creative blast but it was still a bad movie. Brave had a nicer story and the animation was evern better than Wreck it, and that is what they are giving an award for.

So let me get this straight.

The thread is cool with the Onion calling a little 9-year old the c-word, but not cool with McFarlane making jokes about a character thinking Jews run Hollywood.

One was funny satire that people seem to have got up in arms about because they're ignorant, the other - while not being offensive in the slightest - was tired and lazy.

That tweet that said "I've never heard of the Onion but they're despicable WAH WAH WAH"... ignorance. It's like saying I've never heard of Stalin but he has a great moustache, he must have been a well reserved gentleman/prolific porn star. Half the people complaining have completely and utterly misinterpreted it, the other half are just prudes. Suppose there will be some that don't find it funny but also don't find it offensive, and that's okay.

I thought McFarlane was good overall though. Really liked some of his jokes about timekeeping towards the end, and the Sound of music one was great. Poor start though.

Really didn't like Seth's joke about Quvenzhané being "too old for George Clooney in 16 years." Didn't even find him funny like at all

Most of those supposedly "funny" guys turn shit on shows like that. Ricky Gervais during the Golden Globes.. *cringe*

I mean Sculli literally goes from "the Onion tweet was gold" to talking about how Jew jokes aren't classy in the space of 20 posts on the page.

MacFarlane's jokes just seem kind of stale and smug (like MacFarlane). It seemed like they wanted to get someone "unpredictable" and "edgy" like Ricky Gervais, but they also wanted a showman like Hugh Jackman, and in the end they got someone who wasn't really good at either.

Lincoln jokes? Chris Brown jokes? Jew jokes? Yeah I get that they're ballsy to say at all, I guess, but that doesn't automatically make them funny (same thing with the Onion joke). The whole thing was like Oscars: Family Guy Edition.

you guys are hypocrites

you cannot defend the Onion tweet as okay and then criticize McFarlane for making jokes you think are offensive

I enjoy Wreck it Ralph more as well, but I always thought i would have a bias; i keep hearing that you need to be a mother or a daughter to really appreciate Brave whereas Wreck is obviously more gaf friendly.

Didn't feel anything was that outstanding in that category though.

I think people are saying McFarlanes jokes were poor and lazy rather than offensive.

No one is saying they're offensive. They're saying they're not funny. There's a very big difference there.

Haven't seen all the movies in case but my first reaction is, Paranorman should have won best animated movie. Other than that, I'm happy Django got 2 oscars, even if they're not the most talked about.

Now let's watch that Argo...

really?

The Onion tweet is GOLD. I'm not surprised people went crazy because they couldn't understand that joke beyond their comprehension of 'OMG THE C word? A Child!? IDENTIFY YOURSELF ONION!'

Should have kept it online.

Yeah, nothing classes up the Oscars better than 'LOL Jews run Hollywood' jokes.
